Thanks tracy!! What about width, is that important? Here I was all this time hesitating to post about silk tulle because it seemed no one was going down that route. Now Im going to incessantly bug you about it

Sewdeb had me measure from where I want the veil to start to where I want it to end. She then did the meters conversion for me (which was much appreciated). Bethsiar (from whom I got SewDeb's info) had a cathedral length veil, she might have a better idea of how many meters you'll need. But either way, SewDeb will help - she's really great!!

One additional point -- keep in mind if you are planning on a headpiece or tiara, that rwquires an extra bit of room that needs to be measured for. Same if you are wearing your hair up -- just an FYI that I hear a lot of brides forget from my seamstress.

No problem! I am happy to help. The tulle from Hanssons comes 70' wide. One metre of the tulle is about 39' long. I only ordered the one metre and am getting 2 tiers out of it when I originally thought it would only be enough for one. I think we are actually reversing it though, using the 70' for length and the 39' for width.

Bethsiar's veil was cathedral and she told me she ordered 3 or 4 metres. After seeing the fabric in person, I am tending to think it was only 3. Definitely send SewDeb an e-mail. She is great to work with, even if you aren't buying anything from her.

All I know is that I want a Cathedral veil. I'm thinking about a Mantilla one, but the one my designer makes is about $800. UGGH. I really love it though. I'm hoping that I can take a picture of my dress to Barrons and they make me one.

That is a rip! There are alot of great online stores that will sell you a cathedral length mantilla for more than half that price.

I totally agree, that's why I'm not ordering it through them. The veil for $800 is a Mantilla veil with beading on it to match my dress. But, I was hoping I can get someone to make it for me. I want to wear a blusher though. Has anyone seen this before with a mantilla, or will it look weird.

Oh, I definetly want to be a veil bride. I can show off my hair any other time.

Deb,
Was this the dress for the flowers in the hair?

I don't have one yeat either. I was contemplating not getting one since my dress is so detailed. But if I do it will be fingertip length. I haven't decided about a blusher yet either. I hate things in my face.

Re: Let's take a break from small talk and get serious about weddings: Let's post veils!

Thanks guys for all this advice on silk tulle veils. I didn't pay a lot for my gown so I am justifying paying for a cathedral length silk chiffon veil to make the dress more dramatic- This sewdeb person sounds great for advice!

Re: Let's take a break from small talk and get serious about weddings: Let's post veils!

ckgm - i think your gown will look STUNNING with a silk veil - the material is so flowy and wonderful (if I am remembering your Maggie correctly) the combo will look so romantic!

Thanks for the info on the thread girls - anyone have anything more to say about veils???

Hows about, I love this antique one I stole from a girls journal on weddingchannel.com.

I believe the girl got them on ebay - after searching for months for an authentic vintage lace veil, and paid under 50 for them.

I am hunting, I will let you know what I find! (ummm yes, in the 1.99 to 5.99 range.)

Re: Let's take a break from small talk and get serious about weddings: Let's post veils!

My daughter is thinking of going with a silk tulle veil, her only concern is using a blusher with the silk tulle material-how it will fall on her face. Any of you brides know if that should be a concern?

Re: Let's take a break from small talk and get serious about weddings: Let's post veils!

Silk is a smidge heavier (any by that I mean slightly more opaque) but it usually gives a nice blurred look. I am not explaining this well. I think the pics bunny posted are of silk -- dod you see how the facial features are a little less distinct. This is sounding like a bad thing but it is not -- it is ethereal and pretty -- silk flows in the nicest way.
