Re: maire d tip
And I asked where it goes..she essentially told me, it was to the ppl in the offices for preparation and planning, while none of it goes to the ppl on the floor (waiters, bus boys, bathroom attendants, etc....)I'd feel a little less badly if they were part of the cut

Re: maire d tip
This may sound crazy but I'm not even sure what a banquet manager of Maitre D is. I know that where I am getting married is run by 4 people. I went to my RH twice. My first visit I met one person, and I met with another when I booked with my initial deposit. I had to pay an additional 20%, what does that go to? Nothing has been mentioned to me about additional $ the day.

It's actually kind of sick - the 20% they charge as an 'administrative fee' goes into overhead, and so does the maitre'd tip. They all pay their waiters like $10-$20 per hour so they don't get tips.

We went in for our final payment today, and our BM told us, for a wedding our size (~190) the maitre d would typically receive a ($900-1200 tip)
She's got to be joking, right?
You BM told you this?Is it just me or is that rude?
The same thing happened to me at my limo company. The man who was there when I went to make a payment told us we should tip the driver about 100 per trip.
I thought it was so rude. Does a manager of a restaurant ever tell you how much to tip a waiter?
Yes I agree!! That would annoy me.

It's so confusing... I don't understand what all this is supposed to be for either.

Re: maire d tip
It's just another way that reception halls inflate their prices after their lure you in saying 'only $70 per person!' when in reality it comes out to more like $100 after all of the tips & taxes.

I say F them all lol you have paid enough as it is, and its not like you have been working with ur matra D this whole time, you meet them the day of ur wedding for a few hours, and i doubt they do much wht bring u food and water and drinks and make sure the hall is set up they way you want it? Isn't that what they get paid to do regardless??

Re: maire d tip
I worked at a hall when I was younger and we NEVER received the 20% gratuity that couples pay! We made a fixed rate. I was a waitress. It was $55 a shift which we had to go in like two hours early to set up was there for 5 hours for the whole wedding then like two hours to clean up. So servers really don't make a lot! They rely on guests to tip which most don't. So I will be tipping the waitstaff. Just a thought! They are the ones I feel that make the wedding.

Re: maire d tip
I paid over $100 per person plus 20% plus tax, so we're talking like $150 per person to the RH. So I just did the math and the '20%' comes to almost $3,500. They can take thier 'tips' out of that.
