Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Hi Ladies,

But I'm starting to get worried that my signed marriage license that was mailed a month ago may have gotten lost?? How long does it take for you to get your copy of the marriage certificate??

What happens if they never received it cause it got lost in the mail? Does it mean I have to start the process all over again? The marriage license is probably expired by now since I got it on July 17th. So does that mean my anniversary is no longer going to be the day I got married??? how does that work??

Thanks for all your feedback!!

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Okay LOTS of info to follow - sorry couldnt make it more concise

I actually still have not gotten mine and it's been over three months. . supposedly I have to go down to city hall (I did mine in NYC) and this is the story of what you have to do. . and the marriage cert is different than the lic. . it was the lic that expired (which is what lets you get married) so you used that and all is good. . you just need to get the legal proof (the certificate)

first (if you haven't) check with the person who married you to make sure they sent it in. . also not sure where you sent it but NYC takes about 4-6 weeks so not so bad yet but LI ususally very fast turn around. .

1. If the person who married you has a copy of the receipt saying they mailed it in get that from them and take that to the city hall.

2. If they don't have it then get a signed document from them saying they have married you and take that PLUS a photocopy of the marriage cert you should have gotten on your wedding day and take that to sity hall (if they think its your fault I think they charge 25 replacement fee which is RIDICULOUS) but WTH

3. your marriage day will still be the day you got married. . they will give you a duplicate for that day. . so no worries about anniversary day

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Wow... What an ordeal!! We actually mailed the marriage license ourselves. We wanted to make sure it gets mailed. Unfortunately, we were in a rush to get to the airport that morning, we didn't make any copies. I know, very stupid... I know our officiant will not mind signing it again. I think I have to chase the paperwork down if i don't recieve it in the next two weeks.

We had friend who got married a week before us. Their certificate was sitting in the mailbox when they got back from their honeymoon. I was just worried ours got lost in transit. Thanks for your feedback!!

To date I still have not received my certificate. A friend of mine said hers took 2 months to come, so I'm playing the waiting game.

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Ours got lost in the mail. I just called the town hall I got the license from. They told me it was mailed almost a month after the wedding day. (It had bee almost 2 months) They were really nice and just mailed another one to my parents' address instead since we keep getting our mail lost at our apartment. It came 2 days later.

we were told it would take 4-8 weeks from the time the signed marriage license was received. We went to the court house in the Bronx.

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

I was freaking out too because a month later we still hadn't gotten it. I went down to borough hall in Brooklyn where we got our original license and they had actually mailed it the day before I went. I paid $25 for a second copy so I'd have one in hand. We got the one in the mail about a week later. So all in all about 6 weeks. I wasn't very happy about how long it took, but it was fine.

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Thank God I'm not alone here! We mailed ours as soon as we got back from HM & still NOTHING...WTH? But we're also upstate now - so they move at snails pace not giving consideration to the fact that I cant change my name on anything until we get that certificate back...grrr!

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

That's a long time. I got married on 9/12/09 and received my certificate on 9/21/09. We live in Putnam County, NY. Not sure if we got ours pretty quick since we live upstate and the volume isn't as high as the City. Your officiant is required to mail the license within 5 days after the wedding. Hope you get it soon.

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Update: went to our town hall today & inquired about our license - the woman told me they have been so busy they havent even opened envelopes yet...as luck would have it - ours was in one of the envelopes that hadnt been opened yet...

But the clerk said she would record it in their records today & mail out to us by the end of day so we should have it in a day - 2 the latest.

If you havent received it yet - I would call your town hall where you applied for you license...you never know - you could have the same situation as us & it's just sitting there in an unopened envelope!

We got married on Friday and got ours yesterday...maybe it has to do with the town hall you visited?

Re: Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

We got married 2.5 weeks ago. When we got back from the honeymoon, my marriage certificate was already waiting for us. If you didn't get it back yet, it's most likely the person who married you didn't send it back right away. You should check with him/her first.

RE:Married 1 Month Today!! No marriage certificate...?

Usually, the marriage certificate takes 2-4 weeks after the ceremony for you to get your certificate by mail. But if you haven't received it yet, you can call or go directly to the courthouse.
