Milleridge Baker

With my package, I am getting a 3 tier wedding cake. Does anyone know if the Milleridge Baker has a good selection of cake pictures to look at or chose from or do you suggest that I find my own design for them to work with? Also, I need help with cake fillings. What is everyone doing???

Just know that if you register now, be prepared to go back in 6 month intervals to update b/c inventory changes. I only registered in December and I just received a letter from Fortunoff's regarding the discontinuance of my sheets.....

Good luck - and take it slow. Even with the best plans, expect things to go a little nutty at times & roll with it! ;)

When are you planning to meet with the bakery? I have no idea about their selection, but I also have no idea how far in advance you need to meet with them to discuss options. Has anyone met with them yet?

I haven't met with them yet but I called last week and they told me that I didn't have to meet with them until mid to late Feb (1-1 1/2 months before my wedding date).

I'd also be thankful to anyone willing to share their experience with the bakery. : )

I know Gina knows about this so maybe she will asnwer your questions later :) I am getting married in September. From what I heard when I booked the place, you can find any pic you like and the baker will copy it. And then they make a seperate sheet cake for the guests to eat from. Also if you want marzipan it is extra but from what the woman said there, you can ask him to make a cake in a buttercream filling and it wont be extra.

Laura and Margaret,

Mark Kauffman has photography services that you can pick and choose from, so the prices really range depending on what you want/need. That's what I really liked about him...I got to pick and choose to create a package, and I saw the price of EACH thing, so I got to spend more on what was important to me and skimp on the not-so important. ...like, I chose the 3x5 proofs that were cheaper, and I splurged on getting a higher skill level photographer. This way, I still worked within my budget. I just liked having that control in picking my photography...which I didn't find elsewhere. Plus, I got the photojournalist style that I wanted...their specialty for over ten years.

What is the difference between marizpan and buttercream? My exposure to frostings is limited to better crocker : )

Marzipan is more expensive... That is all I know :) I am getting concerned about my cake. I read in another post that customizing it may be only the three star menu. What do they mean by customizing it?

Meaning you pick the cake, filling, style....and 2 star gets it too. : )

How do you ask? Just call them and state that you want everything in that wonderful little folder referenced in the agreement. Even if they just state (see attached for details) on that 'one page' and then staple the pages as exhibits. I know it feels awkward - its such an important day and the fear is we don't want to upset them and ruin the reception - but we ARE paying them and they will do what you want. Just ask....they did it for me and many other brides on this board....good luck!

I had what is considered the "I DO" cake, it's 4 different size cakes on tiered stands w/ candles. I had to add a little more money for the 4th tier. I chose to get buttercream because it stays all night-whereas whipped cream needs to be refrigerated and comes out just for the cake cutting. The head baker is very talented and can replicate most styles that you cut out of a magazine. I would suggest finding a couple of styles you like only because the books they have are dated. The baker does a killer basketweave which is a very popular choice now. We also had a chocolate cake w/choc. mousse filling. Hope this helped a bit :) Gina
