Milleridge Florist

Laura,

The only thing I have done so far is secure the ceremony site and the Milleridge. I was getting overwhelmed by everything and decided to focus on my dress first. So, I haven't done much of anything. I'd like to see the place set up before a wedding to get an idea of what it looks like. I'd like to see the centerpiece upgrades too. Have you signed the contract yet? I am a bit nervous about that. Any thougts on that? What else have you done??

Lisa

As far as our contract goes-- we had them put every little thing in ---meaning the choices ( we had a 2 star and she upgraded us with chateau briand and 2 choices- I made sure she put that in-- I wanted everything in it -- so after they sent the first one -they listened to all my ridiculousness and put it in-- just make sure that you are satisfied and dont feel like you are putting them out We are working with Nadine and she is great Laura

You may want to use something associated with cars, car fresheners (also double as favors), find pictures of different years of the model car you are using, color copy and write or print in bold letters the names, I also think matchbox cars are a cute idea (maybe you can go to a thrift store). If you don't want the car theme to take over the reception, just use simple cards and paste a car from a magazine onto the card. If you want to make a game out of it, pick a movie that the car was in and make the guests guess what table there at. You can put the answer on the back of the card. Good luck.

Hope this helps! Stephanie, Classic Favors and Invitations

Laura,

I guess I feel like I am going to be a pain in the neck. I mean the sheet they gave us promised coat attendent, restroom attendent, fresh floral arrangement in lobby and powder room, bud vases with fresh cut flowers, etc. No of which is on the contract. But I would hate to let it go and there be an issue that day, you know?

Also, did you include the # of bartenders and wait staff?

Lisa - I had them put it all in my contract. Don't feel bad about asking for it - that's what contracts are for! To spell out the terms of your agreement.

Re: cake. You get to customize it. I'm meeting with them late Feb. to finalize my menu and plan the cake.

Good luck!

Thank you! Is that the Occasion cake?

Just know that if you register now, be prepared to go back in 6 month intervals to update b/c inventory changes. I only registered in December and I just received a letter from Fortunoff's regarding the discontinuance of my sheets.....

Good luck - and take it slow. Even with the best plans, expect things to go a little nutty at times & roll with it! ;)

Probably the same. I had them attach the 2 star menu to the contract as an exhibit. The menu says 3 tier wedding cake customized...or something along those lines......

I have the two star menu and she said that I can have a three tier wedding cake and they can do the design for me as I wish (with the exception of more expensive agreements). Does this sound right? I already got my contract. How do I ask for a more detailed one?

Laura and Margaret,

Mark Kauffman has photography services that you can pick and choose from, so the prices really range depending on what you want/need. That's what I really liked about him...I got to pick and choose to create a package, and I saw the price of EACH thing, so I got to spend more on what was important to me and skimp on the not-so important. ...like, I chose the 3x5 proofs that were cheaper, and I splurged on getting a higher skill level photographer. This way, I still worked within my budget. I just liked having that control in picking my photography...which I didn't find elsewhere. Plus, I got the photojournalist style that I wanted...their specialty for over ten years.

That sounds right - I have the same package for the Carriage House -

How do you ask? Just call them and state that you want everything in that wonderful little folder referenced in the agreement. Even if they just state (see attached for details) on that 'one page' and then staple the pages as exhibits. I know it feels awkward - its such an important day and the fear is we don't want to upset them and ruin the reception - but we ARE paying them and they will do what you want. Just ask....they did it for me and many other brides on this board....good luck!

Karen: But what exactly do they add on the second page that isnt on the first? Just the food that is included? Or something else? Do you know anyone who has had a problem with them, as far as not doing something cause it is not on the contract?

No, I do not know of anyone who has had a problem. Quite the contrary, I've only heard good things. But contracts are contracts and they should list everything that you're paying $XXpp for....which is basically everything listed on the 2* menu sheet + the 'additional amenities'.

Don't be overly concerned. They're a reputable caterer and have a long standing history in the community. You're dealing with good people.

Thanks Karen. I look forward to designing my cake! If you know any good cake web sites let me know. I think I will ask for the extended contract if I have special things added to my thing. So far it seems detailed enough

Heather, I was a little intimidated to call and ask for a more detailed contract, but when I called, Tiffany was very cool. She said she'd send me another contract. You're spending a lot of money, there's no reason not to ask for a detailed contract.

Another good idea that I have seen in the past for an engagement or to do at the shower.

In the basket put your brother's favorite things. If he likes spaghetti, put it in the basket. If he likes a certain shampoo, put in in the basket.

I agree with what everyone said-- we had them include every detail that was on ehtose sheets( from flowers in bathroom to attendants) I cringed a bit when someone said they just attached it- only because I don't want any problems-- but I agree that I have NEVER heard a bad word about them and no quite a few people who were married there I did it mostly for my own sense of well being-- so if that is what will make you feel better then you should do it Cake info would def be helpful for me as well We want something similar to a basket weave pattern-- Laura

I would strongly recommend against NOT ordering your dress in the "Right length"!! There are too many possible problems that can occur. My first thought was what if they measure incorrectly or if the manufacturer cuts the dress too short. Will you have enough time to send another one, of course if it is too long they can always shorten it. The next point that I would like to bring out is that the last step in the alterations process before the bustle is the hem, I think that is because that some of the other alterations may effect the way that the hem falls. and my last point is that gaining or loosing even 5 pounds can effect the way that the dress falls and everyone says that during the last month before the wedding you loose weight because of all of the stress, I am still waiting for this one, I only have 24 days left and have not lost a pound from stress in fact I think that I have gained, which will heik the hem up. Good luck in what ever you decide to do but I would give it some serious thought the savings of $75.00-$100.00 may not be worth the hassle, if any of those things go wrong. and to answer Karen's Question. Yes most places do place a cap on alterations and the hem is included in that cap

good luck Jamelle

Laura - just to clarify - no need to cringe on the 'attachment'. I negotiate contracts for a living - exhibits and schedules, when attached to the back of the contract & referenced in the contract text, are considered part of the contract and are binding. With all the text that M has and the little room they have to work in, it was easier for all parties concerned....and still legally binding! : )

i believe june to be right ...if flowers are not important to your wedding in that you are justifying that the music and food makes a wedding...well you then do not value flowers at your own admission so therefore your recoemmendation of burtons is for your same reason....of not really caring about flowers.....but for those of you that really care about your bridal bouquets, and centerpieces, the church.....i recommend jack&rose...they are just down the block from milleridge inn on jericho right next door to fox hollw and crest hollow and across from woodbury c.c., they seem to do alot of weddings.....are much more selective, quality, creativity, service type of place...my friends have used them...and i checked them out after searching 6 florists.....they were just on the lifetime network show for "weddings of a lifetime"....what a beautiful floral display they set up....give them a try....good luck....but do not compromise your wedding day at any expense.

We decided on Nick's in the town of Montauk. It is a great spot if you are having a small (we are having about 110)wedding. We rented the second floor which is mostly all windows looking out onto the ocean.Claire & Nick are so nice to do business with and the food is great.

There is an entrance to the beach just outside the restaurant. We are having our ceremony there.

Gina,

You were obviously happy with the job that was performed by Burtons, that's all that matters. I consider this site to be like "group therapy" for brides. And even though we will never meet I consider anyone who answers one of my postings a friend. I would only tell a friend my honest experiences with a vendor they were about to give their hard earned money too.

By the way it's nice to hear that you did care, if you were going to spend at least $1000 on something you did'nt care about that would be pretty foolish.

I agree totally June! To assume that I didn't care is ridiculous. My wedding was very expensive(as are most weddings)I wanted to save money in an area that (to me) wasn't vital for a great wedding. Anyone who knows how beautiful The Milleridge Cottage is knows you hardly need flowers to spruce the place up, it already looks great :) I do value most opinions I get here, as we are all in the same boat. Thanks for your nice posting.....
