Mother of Grrom giving lingerie for shower?

Have you ever heard of this. Apparently my Future mother-in-law thinks it's her duty to give me lingerie at my bridal shower. My fiance told her not to. But where would she get this idea?

I called his office 2 weeks ago and the woman I spoke to said that, b/c I was referred by the Milleridge, they would give me a comp ride home after the reception or from my home to the airport.

I called yesterday and they told me that info was incorrect and wouldn't give me the car. I asked to speak with Kenny.

Mother of Grrom giving lingerie for shower?

I haven't heard of it as a rule... does it make you feel uncomfortable or are you questioning it b/c you've never heard of it before?

At my shower, my FSIL gave me lingere. I felt a little awkward - b/c I'll obviously be using it when I'm having sex w/her brother!! Not that they don't know that we are having sex, but its not on the forefront of our dialogue (know what I mean?)

I had to hold it up in front of his mom, his aunts...i was so embarrassed. : (

Mother of Grrom giving lingerie for shower?

I have seen the Mother of the Bride give her daughter lingerie for the wedding night as well as many of the bridal party also give lingerie for the honeymoon--- we are hoping to receive some at my shower--Jeremy wants the men to pick it out so it will be racier!!! Yes it is embarrasing but I have see it as quite the norm

Jack- unlike Therese I thought that the Milleridge offered a great selection of food for not such a crazy price. My fiance and I went to look at about 15 different places and we thought that we would get the most for our money at the Milleridge. The people there are willing to work with you on prices the only bad thing is that the minimums for guests are pretty high and there are limited dates left. We are planning on setting our date for there soon.

m- of groom hinting?

that it is time to start a family? Don;t be too surprised if you get a teddy from your future MIL, she probably means well!

I was looking for a small jazz-type band to play at our outdoor cocktail hour. Any suggestions?

Mother of Grrom giving lingerie for shower?

It's probably a little embarrassing to get lingerie from anyone at a shower...everyone there knows what you'll be using it for....but there are cultures where the MOTG and MOTB set up the bed for the wedding night with a towel in the center, etc. If my FMIL does THAT, I'll be mortified...kind of puts the lingerie in perspective....just laugh it off and go quickly to the next gift....you'll appreciate it later (so will your fiancee!)

Karen, how did you make out? I haven't gone the Milleridge (I like in queens & am car-less) I'll be going in the next few weeks.

I do not believe the public ever receives an authentic signature from the president of the united states. The pope...maybe.

Mother of Groom giving lingerie for shower?

As an interesting aside that I just received from a forwarded e-mail on weird laws throughout the world:

In Cali, Colombia, a woman may only have sex with her husband, and the first time this happens, her mother must be in the room to witness the act (makes one shudder at the thought.)

Thanks for the follow up!

Mother of Grrom giving lingerie for shower?

Traditionally the MOB gives the bride gives the bride the penoir (sp?) set in white - the long nightgown and robe. I haven't heard of the MOG giving lingerie. MY FSIL gave lingerie to me and said "I have to think of my brother!" I'm not shy so I thought it was fun to get all the lingerie. After all, newlyweds are supposed to need it! Just have fun with it. I absolutley loved my shower!

In addition to the money, should I be giving them a token gift as well? My first guess is no - maybe a personal note thanking them for being a part of my day but I'm not sure what's appropriate.

Any ideas?
