I don't think you are wrong at all - first of all, if you have only met them 3 times, then why would you invite them anyway? Second of all, in the way you described her she seems like the type of person that just likes to have 'issues', so if it wansn't this then I am sure it would be something else. Definitely stand your ground!

My FMIL has so many people on her list, basically the family that you never see, except for funerals and weddings. It took a while, but FH finally realized that he had to put his own friends on the b-list, (which we will never get to), just to accommodate his mother's list!!

FH called her and told her some of them are getting the boot, and she freaked out, but we are standing our ground, and so should you!
