Honestly, SUNY Stony Brook is an excellent school with an excellent reputation. I'm currently working on my Masters in English there and it's worth it. I payed almost $100,000 for my BA at St. John's University and it wasn't worth the money. CW Post is overpriced as is Dowling (and it's a horrible school - people get laughed at in the Education community for going there) and Hofstra is as well.

With Stony Brook you get a great education at SUNY prices. Stay with SUNY or CUNY.

I worked while I went for my Master's degree both times. It was stressful - but I was young and living at home - so I felt like I could do it! I will be going for my PhD beginning next year and I do not intend to stop working!

i did my undergrad at hofstra - but had no interest in spending that for my masters, so Im going to stony brook. credits are around 300 so a three credit class is only about 900! They have a lot of online classes and they offer satellite classes, so you never have to travel to stony brook for class. I am taking classes along with teaching full time and it is not so bad!

I am currently going for my MBA in Corporate Finance at Dowling. They have an accelerated 18 month program, which is expensive but easy and classes are Saturday's 8-5. It is about $10,000 per semester, but your done in 3 semesters. My company is paying that is why I did it... Good Luck...

I'm thinking about going back for my masters, maybe in business.... I'm not really sure on the major though. But I wanted to know approximately how much it costs earn one? I know all schools prices are different, but I want a general idea, so I can prepare.

Are state schools cheaper for masters, maybe SUNY Old Westbury, or is it worth it to go to a private school such as Hofstra?

ETA:

Did a lot of you work and go to school at the same time? I worked while earning my bachelors and it was hard doing both. I'm wondering if it's too much stress to go for a masters and work too?

And since I haven't decided on what I want to master in yet, how about some info on a teaching masters...I don't have a bacholers in teaching, so I know I'll probably have to take education classes as well?

I currently work part time and go to school full time and it's very difficult. I have a very demanding major though, and have a lot of clinical work. Teachers have student teaching so if you do work, you may have difficulty working during student teaching. it depends on the major though. You may have a few pre-requisites to take if you did not get your bachelors in your major.
My advice, if you don't have to work while getting your masters...don't. I can only speak of my experience...and it is stressful. HTH
