Re: Opinions on my sample invite....
I'm seriously considering just buying nice, classy plain ivory invites with mocha text but we'll see. School is getting crazy and I'm still looking at vendors! I will give this one more serious thought after FH and I look again at our Indian invites from Indian Wedding Card and at some American ones.If I do this invite the scrolls will all be removed and the parent names will go below each of our names (Laura, daughter of so-and-so...Philip, son-of-so-and-so) that way, if we leave on his father's name it might not look too weird. We still have to sit down with his mother and discuss the invites and our vision of everything overall and see if we can all get on the same page!
I still have to choose STD cards! I guess the only question is: If I make the changes above do you think it's nice enough to warrent the extra work?
Thanks again for all of the great input!

Re: Opinions on my sample invite....
Laura,I def think that doing the parents names under each of yours would look nicer.
Secondly, I have some sample invites from Indianweddingcard.com that you can 'borrow' if you would like. I am kinda keeping them for a friend who is getting married next year so she can see them.
Finally, one way to surely tell if the extra work is warranted is to cost out you options. How much would it cost to buy? For me personally, buying from the website was cheaper. I know Soon2BMrsA had them delivered in India to save on shipping costs. How much would it cost to make? And the opportunity cost of time? Is the difference is buying vs. making worth your time.
Hope this helps!
P.S. Also check out paperdirect.com for plain ivory invites that you can do at home.

I like it, but I agree with everyone about the scrolls

Like the colors and wording but not the scrolls. They sort of make it look like a menu!

Re: Opinions on my sample invite....
Can I make a suggestion...OK, I know it is improtant to have your FH's dads name on there..so if his mom is not remarried, I would put their names together, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and next to the Mr. Put a small cross. I saw this done on a friends invite, whose dad had passed and to make everything fit accordingly, they had the cross next to his name. I thought it was really nice, it kept the parents name together, honored him and didn't take up a lot of room.

i don't like the back paper with the gold dots. too busy.the writing looks nice.
i understand his mom wants his dad's name included, but honestly, how can a 'late dad' invite anyone to a wedding? it just doesn't sound right. maybe he can honor him in some other way? or put son of mrs. xxx and the late mr. xxx. that would be MUCH better~!

That's an interesting suggestion- if I have them made this same wording issue will come up so I will ask- I don't think my home program will allow me to do this.

It's the tme issue that pushes me to getting professional ones- otherwise the price works out to be in the mid to high range of what I wanted to spend. (I think $430 total? with professional printed lined envelopes it went closer to $600 for about 100-125 invites) I have considered getting the fancier professional ones if I'm already up at that price!
We won't have anyone from India coming to the wedding as far as I know but Indian Wedding card wasn't too bad on shipping.
Which invite samples do you have (you can just put down the #)? That way I can see if it was one we were considering. Thank you for the offer!
At this point, the money is better spent on my BP and out-of-town guest transportation. Maybe I'll do these for another occasion later...

Yeah, in my last comment I decided to put the 'daughter of ' and 'son of' lines- I just kind of liked having our names in the middle- that's not as important as FH and his mother felling satisfied that FH dad is incorporated- I know it isn't usually done- may parents don't really like it but everyone agrees that it's not horrible enough to upset my FMIL over. Anyone who knows us will understand and if the dont...well, they aren't important enough for me to worry about. I like the suggestion of the cross tho from the other poster...
Like I said, we have to have a family sit-down and discuss everything- his family is very traditional so I have only seen my FMIL (outside of the hospital when FH dad was sick) about 5-6 times and don't even really know her or her full wishes! My family is very laid back... should be interesting!
