Place Cards....

Ok, I have a question, I have a few unmarried guests, that live together or are girlfriend and boyfriend or engaged. They were invited on the same invitation. Do I put the two of them on the same place card, or do they get individual ones? How about Mother Father and 18year old son…same card or separate ones? Should I go with the theory that who was ever invited together, should be on the same place card? need help fast…wedding in 21 days!

Jamelle: If the couple lives together, put both their names on once card. For parents with a child. Parents on one, child on the another

I booked Marco Island on Friday. I am staying at the Radisson Suite Beach Resort. My travel agent (friend) here in my company booked it at 125.00 per night for suite/ocean front. Airlines - 149.00 round trip. She booked everything for me.

YAHOOOOEEEE - One less thing to worry about.

People who are dating, etc. go one one card together. The 18 year old son should get a separate card.

I used to live in FL, near Sanibel and it is gorgeous. Marco is ok-Sanibel is much better. Also, I just came back from a family vacation on Duck Key at the Hawk's Cay Resort. It was absolutely beautiful. It is only one hour from Key West and 2 hours from Miami. You really don't even have to leave the resort. It is a family place, not exclusively for honeymooners, but I thought about going back for mine. They do have an adult pool-very private and separate from the kids area. There is not much around outside of the resort. Key West was the next best place to visit. There is a great state park- Bajia Honda just south of the resort for a day trip. It's beautiful.

I didn't see you last post before I posted my own message. I think if people are invited as a couple, their names go on one card together.

Does anyone have any experience with Al at PatKen? Has anyone ever heard of ADA photography or Koala?

Thanks for your help!

Jamelle: I believe if the couple lives togehter you address both of them, if they do not live together, It's so and so with a Guest.

A step further would be to find out the name of the 'guest' and write their name on the card. Its more personalized, makes the 'guest' feel more welcomed and, besides, shouldn't you know the names of everyone attending your wedding!!

Just a little pet peeve of mine.....

Thanks for your help!

I'm not a big fan of using "and guest" on place cards. If you know the person's name, why not use it? Of course, if you don't know who the person is bringing, I think "and guest" is OK.

Let's Start again.....Place Cards....

Ok perhaps something got a little lost here in the translation. I know the name of every guest attending my wedding, I too believe that each guest should be addressed by name. Besides, I am not paying for anyone whose name I do not know. Just my opinion. My question was about how to put unmarried people on a place card. My question was:

1) Mr. & Mrs. Smith and their 16(18 was a typo he is 16) year old son John, do they go on one place card or two separate ones?

Let's Start again - My Gosh!

I think the general rule is this:

A couple living together goes on the same card. If the couple is not living together, the card says the name of who the invitation went to "and Guest". Same for the MR's together and not. As far as family- Mr. & Mrs. Doe on one card, their son on another!

Place Cards....

I understand everyones feelings on "& Guest" being a little less personal, but the reason for "Guest" when not living togehter or committed, is that they may not make it to the wedding together. I've heard of this happening. If that invited guest decides to take another, then the invitation and table card read the other (not-attending) guests name. Jamelle's wedding is close enough where that probably won't happen, but it is very possible. Then in the end, this person could show up and his guest sees someone elses name on the tag. Just some experience of what I've heard and seen. I think that's why etiquette is "& Guest"

A couple living together goes on the same card. If the couple is not living together, the card says the name of who the invitation went to "and Guest". Same for the MR's together and not. As far as family- Mr. & Mrs. Doe on one card, their son on another!

I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the "and guest" thing, so of course I respect yours, but I must tell you that etiquette says to avoid the use of "and Guest" and "and family" when ever possible.

Let's Start again - My Gosh!

I am having a hard time explaining my point here...none of my invitations went out and guest!! For example, if I had a friend, that is not married, but has a girlfriend, I sent the invitation to his house and addressed it to him and on the inside envelope I put Mr. Smith and Ms. Brown (I put the persons name not and guest, in some cases where a couple has been dating for years, or is engaged it would be rude to put and guest, when I know who they are bringing) so That is why I am asking how to address the place cards. I guess I will do the same as if they were married and put them on the same place card. thanks again!

Place Cards....

This is how it is most often done...keeping in mind that if something makes you uncomfortable in doing it you should do what you feel is right.

If a couple is invited together, regardless of whether they are living together or just boyfriend/girlfriend, they are on the same place card. Example: Mr. John Smith Ms. Jane Doe Table No. 5

If you do not know the name of the person they are bringing...you can use the following: Mr. John Smith & Guest

OK, here's my opinion. Couples all go on the same card. After all, they are attending together. I also think a 16 year old gets his/her own card. Unless they're really young, I think it's nice to give a child/teen their own card - makes them feel grown-up.

Hope this helps!

I tried looking up the guidelines on "ask carly" at the knot, but my browser keeps locking : (

I think that's the best course of action - to follow the same guidelines you used when sending out the invitations. With on exception - if you included a child on the parents invitation but the child is seated at another table, then - obviously - they get their own card! : )

How timely that you're doing this Today....I just ordered my cards from PaperDirect this morning!

Okay, I guess I'm wrong. I just remember them written that way at weddings I've attended. I guess whichever was works best for you is the best way to go.

Ann Marie, My wedding is at Sandcastle too!! When is your wedding. If you get married first, I'd love to hear your input on things I should or should not do. My wedding is on June 4 2000 so if I'm first I'll give you the same info.

Thanks.
