is there something in aprticular she is looking for? would she be more comfortable in sleeves? or maybe a 2 piece dress? my mom had a hard time finding something but I was able to offer her a few options. if you let me know some of the features she is looking ror I would be happy to look!
She wants something non-clingy, that doesn't cut in the middle(her problem area
) She likes something with a shawl or a light flowy split sleeve. She's only 5'2 and is a size 20-22. Thanks so much. I've been searching online alllllllllll day. Also, she's really pale with bright pink cheeks, so dark colors make her look yellowish.

I love this trend...b/c my mom might have had a problem if it wasn't for you girls letting me know where to start looking and where not to go...it wil make her a happier mom!

estelles has some nice ones. Even take a look on houseofbrides.com and maybe she will see a designer that she likes and get an idea of something?
Look at houseofbrides, but do NOT buy from them!!! I speak from experience with them. Look, but don't buy. Also, bridesave.com you can look up gowns by size. This can give you ideas.

My mom had some bad experiences also, which is why I am so happy I can recommend Angels in East Islip -they had a really nice selection of Plus Size, but more importantly, the woman there was awsome, and funny, and supportive and knows her stuff! She had my mom pull all the dresses she liked, but then she pulled ones she knew would look good...and wouldn't you know, my mom ended up getting a dress she would never have tried on -and it looks awsome. The woman really was a riot, she kept saying, 'hangers don't have boobs...don't judge it on the hanger , try it on!' Anyway, highly recommended.

My mom is an 18 and we went this past weekend all over and we found a lot of really nice dresses at TOTALLY YOU on Merrick Rd. in Wantagh - it's diagonally across from the Wantagh Park entrance on a corner. My mom has purchased many dresses froom here in the past and she's always been very happy. At first when you walk in it's nuttin special but they have a whole other part in the back. Just ask for help and they have great customer service!

My mom got her dress from Charmet on Bell Blvd. in Bayside. They rushed it and she got it 2 days before the wedding with no problems.

I dont think you can go wrong with Estelles in Farmingdale. They have a huge selection of sizes/styles and their prices are right. Also let her know that their inventory changes often so she might have to go back more than once if she doesnt find something the first time.It is a little crazy there on the weekends so if you can go during the weeknight you will probably get better service and the store is a lot more organized.

Both my mom and MIL are plus sized and they both loved this store and had many dresses they loved after driving all over the Island looking for dresses.Edited to add: they also had amazing customer service and had at least one woman helping you at all times, and they also can do fittings.

Mom got her dress at Nordstrom's Rack. Its a hit or miss kind of place, but it is worth a trip.

Queen of Hearts. They specialize in fancy dresses for plus sized women. My mom (size 22) was able to actually try things on that fit, as well as some things that were too big on her (that was quite a joy for her). The store is $$$, but well worth it to make plus sized moms feel like a million bucks (and the sales staff is very nice).
Store is on the south shore.
My mom went there over the weekend, and was shocked that the dress she liked was between $800 and $1000! That's what MY dress cost!! So, she's still looking, too. We feel your pain!
Actually my mom fell in love with a dress their that was the same price and then found it in her size at Tottaly you in Bellmore for less then half of the price Queen of Hearts was.

Estelles!!! Definitely go there. My mom went there for my sister's wedding and will be going back for mine. They're not Dresses for Less anymore but the prices are a lot better than most department stores. And they have a huge selection for plus sized women. Plus, don't feel compelled to buy your mom's dress in the wedding section. My mom got hers in the regular plus sized section and it was gorgeous and she looked amazing!!!

My very picky plus sized mom had a great experience at Queen of Hearts. I highly recommend. Awful awful experience at Sugarplum.

I used to work at Lord and Taylor in the plus size woman section and dressed many a mom for their son/daughters weddings... its a cheaper alternative.. they all left feeling like a million bucks

Try Nordstrom or Nordstrom online. They are one of the few department stores that has a plus petite dept and they aren't that expensive. Both our mom's were looking for something in a light/bright color with not too much beading...MIL got hers at Nordstrom, my mom got hers through the Bloomies catalogue. We had an AWFUL experience and walked out within 5 minutes of going to Sugarplums. Good Luck!

My mom is about the same size. She bought her dress at Lord & Taylor in Walt Whitman Mall.They had a decent selection and supposedly Macy's at Walt Whitman has a better selection than Manhasset
She also saw some dresses at bridal shop in Bethpage that ranged 300-600.
She too was discourageed at bridal salons because they have nothing for her to try on... which is hard to do.
I will post a pic later. Her dress is lavendar, full length with a jacket. It has beading on the neckline, jacket and on the bottom.

Yes it is in East Islip, I can not say enough nice things about the place I ordered all my BM's dresses from them also.
