We are going to continue renting for a bit. We are only paying $600 a month right now, so we are going to stay here for about 6 months after the wedding and save some money and then hopefully buy a house. But we are going to actually start looking right after the wedding and if we find something reasonable that we can afford we are going to try and buy it. Unfortunately, I am not in a good paying job right now, but I will have my master's degree in December so hopefully I will be able to get a better job which will help out a ton.

kdelace - I am also very stressed. We're trying to pay for the wedding and save for a down payment at once. Even though we are making progress, it seems like we will never be able to afford a house on LI, and I don't want to move

We plan on renting for a year and then buying a house after that. Hopefully we get some money back from the wedding to put down, but there are no guarantees.

FH bought the house a year before he proposed and I moved in after we got engaged to help with the bills and save for the wedding so all the wedding gifts will go to remodeling of the house. He was very smart the way he planned everything. I feel that way now but when he was buying the house I felt different. What about us I kept thinking.

It is really sickening if you think about how much they want for the houses out there. I mean really! What do they expect us newlyweds to do? My FI & I have been looking but everytime we go we just become more frustrated because what we could afford is absolute garbage. We are trying to save more money for a down payment and looking again in January.

We will actually be living in the apartment of his family home. We are fortunate because I have a wonderful future MIL and she wont be charging us much rent although we will give her something each month. So it helps us in saving money for our down payment for a house. We plan on buying a year after we are married and most likely look in Jersey because NYC is just too expensive!

We are paying for our wedding and saving for a house at the same time. Hopefully, we will be closing on a house before we get married.

i am so glad i am not the only ones stressing. It is hard and if I think about it every day i really get upset. I know they say renting is a waste but for many of us it is the only way! Hang in there girls. There is a light at the end of a tunnel, hopefully with a DP and the house we want!

Not 100% sure just yet- hopefully, we will own SOMETHING - even if it is a coop and not a house . . . I do not want to pay rent, but if that's what we end up having to do, I'll live.
