Possible wedding problem - help!

Hi everyone. I need some advise. The reception hall we selected changed managers on us and now they are changing the entire menu and are planning on giving us less of everything and they are charging more per person. Plus, they are only giving us half of the room that we reserved for our cocktail hour. We had a contract with the old management but all that is stated was the price per person and the date we reserved with the deposit - nothing about the menu. Do we have a right to ask for what we were originally promised on the menu? I don't want to aggravate the new managment, because after all, they do have a say in how my wedding will turn out, and they are allowing us to pay the per/person rate that was listed in our contract, but I feel somewhat cheated with the menu changes! If you have any opinions on the matter, please share. I need some help. Thanks. Kristen

Thanks, Jenn

Thats great, I remember when I was looking for one for my wedding and the best I could come up with with hand outs was $900.00! I think some of the prices vendors are charging are getting a little too steep.

The honorable thing for them to do would be to stand by the prior menu...have you asked? Maybe you could work out a happy medium.

Re: rights. Your legal rights are what is referenced in the agreement.

I'm not an atty but I'd wonder if the old contract is valid at all. Unless there is a right to assign, your contract is with the former ownership entity &, since they are no longer in business, the contract may no longer be valid.

Thanks for the words of advise. I think I may have explained what has happened incorrectly, although it is confusing. It is not that there is new ownership - just new managers working there. I think they are bound by the agreement I signed with them since they are the same company with a new employee. I'm not sure though.

If the company is still the owner/operator, then they sshould honor their prior contract. While the menu isn't cited in detail in the contract, the menu was given to you as a supplement. You could argue that it was implied...unless, of course, there is something in the contract that states they can change the menu & substitute at their option. (again, i'm not an atty so if you're really concerned about the contract, then you should consult w/one).

When I was signing my contract, the catering hall did not include the menu information on the contract & they were shocked that i asked for it. They said the menu hadn't changed in over 2 years and it wasn't going to change....your story only supports the importance of getting it all in writing! I made them reference it as an attachment to the contract.....

If they are a reputable co, it is in their best interest to honor their agreement. Either that, or they should compensate you in some way...like an upgrade or something else along those lines). Please let me know how you make out.

Karen, Again, thanks. I'm meeting with the new manager this weekend. I'll be sure to tell you how it turns out. I wish I had been as careful as you were with your contract. It is great advise for other brides to follow... Kristen

I can't take all the credit - "Weddings for Dummies" & "Bridal Budgets" have been my bibles throughout this whole process. They have great tips! Best $35 I've spent on the wedding so far!

I love the idea of spreading good will but I also like giving my guests something to go home with.

Karen, Hi. Thanks for asking. I feel so silly now that I made such a big deal out of it, but the new manager was wonderful. I arrived at my hall as a true contract negotiator would - prepared to battle it out. I asked for more than what we were originally offered, thinking this would atleast get us closer after the compromise. But, he ended giving me everything I asked for and even added more to the menu. However, this time I did ask him to sign a contract that included the menu. I learned quite a lesson from this whole ordeal - even if it did turn out better than I expected. Thanks again for all your input. Kristen

What's the time-line for wedding dancing?

Does the Bride and Groom have their first dance after they're announced into the reception hall...and THEN the father-daughter dance...and THEN the mother-son dance...and THEN the attendants? Or do the parents have a dance before the couple???

: )

I'm very happy that it all worked out well for you!

Don't be too upset about getting upset. With all that's going on & the emotions related to the event, its really easy for the simplest things to seem like deal breakers. We've all done it before and probably will again! Its the nature of the beast......
