Reception Halls

How does the year 2001 look in terms of reserving a hall? Is everyone finding that most of the dates are booked already, or are there still a lot of dates available?

Karen, how did you make out? I haven't gone the Milleridge (I like in queens & am car-less) I'll be going in the next few weeks.

I do not believe the public ever receives an authentic signature from the president of the united states. The pope...maybe.

I'd imagine it would depend upon the time of year you're looking at. For example, we reserved the Milleridge in October of 99 for a 2000 wedding.

I went looking in Mid/Late Sept 99 at 5 separate locations for dates in March/April/Nov - and found most dates (for sat nights) to be available.

That being said, I"m told lots of folks got engaged for NYEve 2000 so there may be more folks beating down the door than before.....

We are getting married June 2001 and 1/2 the places I loved were already booked for that month. (Some were booked 2 years ago!) We wanted a Sat night June wedding so we had to rearrange some of our options. If you can be flexible with your date and time of year, it will help. A lot of people got engaged this past New Years' and I'm sure even more Valentines Day, so we booked ASAP to ensure our date. They say there will be more weddings this year and next than ever before. Good luck in your search!

Thanks for the follow up!

It's for my brother. I'm scoping for him since he lives out of town and is coming to LI in March to book a place.

You should find out the type of place they want and what date they are thinking about. Then go and check out the place yourself (if you have time.) I did it for my sister. My mom and I met all the banquet depts, took pictures of the rooms and facilites, got all the literature, and menus, etc. and sent them to her and her fiance to look over. It definetly helped them narrow down the choices and saved them time in their search as well.

His fiance's parents are actually doing that. Unfortunately, they found a place for them out is Wading River or something (about a 2 hour ride from where everyone else lives), and my brother looked it up on the internet and didn't like it. I think they want to rely on themselves.

Also, if you've read prior posts, I'm the one who's brother wants to get married the month before me. I'm trying to see how feasible this is, and praying that it isn't. Instead of going crazy now, I'll wait to see if it will even be an issue.

HI. It is amazing how halls are booked up so fast. I think I lucked out because I started looking in January 2000 and was able to get a Saturday night in October 2000. Pure luck I think. Depending on the hall depends on the availability. Some place off the beaten path (not your normal hall ie: country club yacht clubs) might have more of an availability. I booked the Timber Point Country Club in Great River. It is absolutely beautiful and they had several dates available. Good Luck!!

Def. hold off from bugging out until they actually find a place. You never know, they might fall in love with a hall and the day they want (one month before yours) may be booked. So you may luck out. Keep us posted with what happens.

Honestly, I think you can plan a wedding in under 9 months if you're flexible with your date, you really shouldn't have a problem. Good luck with your brother and let us know how it all works out. I hope things work out in your favor.

If the people are as nice as you say, then they should bend over backwards to make things right for you. What's the very worst case? The girls have their alterations done somewhere else (I can give you a great referral) and you get your dress from someone else who carries that line. THAT'S THE WORSE CASE - AND I DON'T THINK THAT WILL HAPPEN!
