I wish I could be more like you, but i can't I work in sales, and I hate when people try to work themselves a deal. ( ok I work in a museum gift shop but still you will be suprised) So sometimes I feel like I don't want to be one of those people. But good for you cause I keep trying to come up with DIY projects to help lower the cost for the wedding.

I understand what you are saying, I definitely dont think people should bargain for EVERYTHING. But when I do a little research and I see that if I said I was having a Saturday night Sweet 16 and everything from the RH, to the DJ to the flowers are like 40% less... I get frustrated and it inspires me to haggle away. Clearly there is some wiggle room if this is happening.

Keep up with the DIY!! We will all have spending willpower together!

I am up for the challenge! I applaud you for doing this, especially here in NYC. There is nothing wrong with stop and shop, they are a real florist with beautiful flowers, not just picking them out of the bunch. I have also looked into other supermarkets and warehouse stores. I am also considering silk flowers and online distributors. They one thing i will not scrimp on is the photography, but digital photography is considerably cheaper these days.

My goal is to have a NYC wedding for under $6000. So far, I am staying on my budget. And I don't plan to do much DIY projects. Once we are done, we will write the book on simple, elegant and AFFORDABLE weddings in NYC for those who simply want a beautiful day without the large price tag!

I hear you hunny! you should be able to save EVERY chance you get!!!! I bargained with my hall till no end! I'm getting a CRAZY deal b/c of it! I think it's awesome you're trying to save anywhere you can!!!

I as so with you. I am not cheap to just be cheap, but honestly I can't afford what most people are paying. I totally feel you can get a great deal on anything. I am also using Stop & Shop flowers. They buy from the same place that the expensive flower stores buy them from and I will guarantee, head to head, know one could tell. I am so glad you posted, I thought I was the only one.

YAY!! :) Yeah, definitely not being cheap just to be cheap.. In addition to an excel spreadsheet of my budget, I started a 'what I didn't overpay on' spreadsheet to see how much money I saved.

When I look at my pictures in 20 years and see my Stop and Shop flowers I will be so proud!
