Re: Share your proposal story!!

It's so nice reading everyone's story.

I just got engaged in november - so it's real fresh in my mind...i still can't believe it sometimes.

We have been dating for almost 3 years (next week!) and we've always done things in the City. We met there on a blind date, went to many broadway shows, dinners, etc. It's right in the middle between us and I love the City. However, he hates it. Just puts up with it for me.

We decided to go see a Broadway show and go out to dinner afterwards. We went to see The Producers and as we were getting to leave, he drops to the ground. Thinking he lost his wallet I kick him. Well, no, he thought he lost THE RING. No clue.

We go to dinner at Pellegrino's in Little Italy. Great dinner and afterwards I come back from the ladies room and we are finishing our wine. He says, 'So, what's up?' I'm like, nothing. That's the last thing I remember him saying.

He pulls out the ring, I yell 'Holy Sh*t!' - I know, how gross am I - and start immediately crying. Sobbing. Hysterical. The restaurant claps, out comes champagne, I'm crying...hysterically. I say, Yes. Yes.

We go eat canoli.

Go back to Jersey, call everyone. Next day (this is my fav. part), he arranges for my mom and dad to come to brunch. I end up having a nervous breakdown over the upcoming wedding plans, but it was still nice.

After that, the PLANS BEGAN!!!!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

He proposed this past Thanksgiving in front of my entire extended family, at the annual dinner at my great-aunts house. It was the first time that he attended, and his family was there also. He had been acting weird for the past few days, and especially that day, being distant, sort of moody, and with his mind always in another world. I was actually becoming annoyed with him. In our family, we have a tradition that we all stand in a circle and each person says what they are most thankful for. When it came to my FH's turn, he said he was thankful for health, his family, and his new family (indicating mine). Then he turns to me and says: And I want to thank you. Because you're the best thing that ever came into my life. I remember the first time I saw you, when you caught me with your smile. You mean everything to me. I know through my military life you'll always be there for me. (At about this point, he starts tearing up, and I'm wiping his tears as he talks) Every time I go down in the submarine, I'm always looking forward to seeing you again, and I know you'll be waiting for me with your arms wide open. I love you so much. And I want to ask you...(Here he reaches into his pocket, takes my hand, and gets down on his knee).. If you'll do me the honor of being my wife. I was so surprised, I had no idea he was planning to propose. I said Of Course. It turns out my whole family knew it was coming, and there was even a 'Congratulations Chris & Amy' cake for dessert. Then my mom tells me that I have appointments for a make-up trial with Oksana, and engagement pics with Patken for that weekend, because Chris was going to sea that Monday. They knew I would say yes to him . It turns out his acting strange was because he had been a bundle of nerves for over a week....I forgave him of course!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

These stories are all so special & moving

FH & I have been dating officially since 07/26/99 & we have always talked about marriage & our future. For the past 4 years, I have been in a full-time graduate program getting my masters & doctorate in school/community psychology. He was with me every moment of the stress & heartache. I knew it would never happen when I was in school b/c I couldn't work full-time. So I graduated in May of 2004 & thought it would def happen by winter 2004 or 2005.

Well, we went to Key West in June to celebate my degree & his Masters in Education. One late afternoon in Key West, we went on this sailboat cruise that watched the sunset. It was beautiful! Ever since then, my FH said we should do that one day on his boat back in Long Island.

All summer, he kept mentioning we should do that & we never did. Finally, Labor Day morning he brought it up & we decided to go on his boat to watch the sunset. Mind you...I NEVER EXPECTED IT! We never looked at rings together, he just bought a new car the week before, & I just assumed it would come closer to 2005.

Well, we took the boat out to a lagoon on the Great South Bay. He anchored to boat & we watched the sunset. As the sun was setting, I saw him squirming & then all of a sudden, he got on one knee & proposed. My first words...'Shut up! Shut Up!'
It was great b/c it was 100% a surprise!

P.S. I found out afterwards he had the ring since June & waited for the perfect moment...three months later!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Cute Story Thumbalina! We actually went to California Grill the night before FH proposed and FH later told me that he didn't know how romantic it was going to be, and if he had had the ring on him (it was in the room safe) he would have proposed right then! Isn't the view FANTASTIC? I LOOOVE California Grill

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Here's mine:
I have been snooping around for awhile, looking for receipts, asking people too many questions, etc... , so my FI had to come up with something fool-proof. I had known that he had asked my parents because the following day my dad said, Oh, by the way, Justin was here last night to show me his new car. Oh, and he asked me if he could marry you.' Real swift, Dad! So, Justin had to do something. He began to give me hints that it was happening on New Years Eve, so I was settled for the time being. On, Dec. 10th, we went out to Pasta Pasta in Port Jeff for dinner with my sister and her husband (former LIW girl) for what I thought was her bday dinner. It was in Port Jeff by Danfords that he first told me that he loved me, by the way. Anyway, it was pouring rain out, so his plan was somewhat foiled, so he decided to just do it in the restaurant. After dinner, my sister wanted dessert and I didn't, but when it came, the waitress put it in front of me. I immediately said, no, and pushed it back in front of her. She told me to look at it andpushed it back. On the plate was an ornament with one bear on his knee proposing to the other bear, saying, 'Lauren will you marry me?' Totally confused, I looked at him and he was on his knee with the ring. Obviously, I said yes! As soon as I did, my sister yelled, 'They're engaged!' , and everyone atarted clapping. It was so great!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

We met in college up in Boston about 5 years ago. I'm from LI and he's from Boston. He moved here about a year and a half ago.

He proposed to me in our apartment and it was a surprise. I got a three stone ring, so he had 3 HUGE balloons taking up the entire hallway so I couldn't see him and our dog (my baby tyson) on the other end. He had the balloon measured to my height (so my vision was blocked) and tied down to a weight. There were roses and candles leading down the hallway. Each balloon had a card with 'past, present, future' on it with a little message about each time period in our lives and pictures of us on the balloons. It was very sweet :)

Re: Share your proposal story!!

I had realized that something was up when he showed up unexpectally the weekend before at a fire department event. See my fiance and I each ride for different fire departments. He had told me he wasn't going to be able to stop by that day cause he had things to do. Later that morning he stoped by saying he was in the area. I just smiled at him and made note on what would bring him to the area. Throughout the week everyone was being very quite and secretive around me but I just figured that he was up to some surprised. The day he proposed I worked 7am-7pm as an ER nurse. I remember calling him at 10am and begging for a cup of coffee. He told me he would be up later after he finished his errands. Next thing I know it was 4pm and he hadn't stopped in yet. I called him again and he told me he would be there in a few minutes he was getting the coffee right now. A little while later I remember looking up while talking to one of the doctors and seeing my boyfriend walking towards me with two cups of coffee in his hands. He handed me one of the cups. The cup seemed so much lighter then I remember coffee being and much cooler. So, with him giving no answer I took the top off to find a green velvet jewlery box inside. Still in disbelief I took the box out and opened it to find my ring. It was then that I heard him ask me to marry me. I think I said yes but I know for sure that I gave him a huge hug right in the middle of the emergency room. One of the doctors turned around and said I think that we just witnessed a proposal. While one of the other nurses got on the PA and announced it to the whole emergency room. I called my whole family to find out that they had all known cause right before he got the coffee he had stopped at my sisters to ask my father's permission. For the rest of my shift I was being congradulated by patients, their families, and my coworkers. Sorry for it being so long.

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Fh actually proposed twice to me....

The 1st time was... we had gone pumpkin picking and went back to the house to carve... we were sitting at two different tables... and he kept saying dont peek...dont peek.... I thought he was just being silly and was carving marissa smells...or something like that.... then he ran inside..supposedly to go to the bathroom...and was gona 4ever... he had come back out... showed me the pumpkin which said marry me.... then said it was a;; a joke... I was soooo mad...although i had not been expecting a proposal anytime soon...I was pisssed he would waste such a cute idea on a joke.... Turns out he had bought the ring a month or so prior.... and asked his mother to hold it... she looked it in a safe...and was not home to open it up....and he couldnt find it..nor get in touch with her....his plan was to put the ring inside....

about two weeks later he served me breakfast in bed.... not surprisingy cuz he does do it time to time.... and underneath my napkin was a fork and knife and around the handle of the fork was my ring... when i went to butteer my french toast i lifted my napkin to grab my knife and saw it...and began to cry, then he asked me...and explained the pumpkin story...

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Here is my story...

It happened on December 17,2004 which is my FI mom's b-day. He told me we were going out to dinner at the Millerage Inn and that I needed to be home as soon as possible from work that day. For some reason I had a little feeling that I was going to get engaged.

During the day he text messaged me and said that his mom really wanted to take pics at the EAB Christmas tree which was fine. So I rushed home from Brooklyn (where I teach) and got ready. He picked me up and we headed over to EAB Plaza. It was so cold that night. We got there and took a few pics of the tree and 'looked for his parents'. We walked around a few minutes and then he said that we should go infront of the tree. He gave me a hug and then pulled away from me and got down on one knee. I was shocked!! I had no idea what was going on...I was laughing, crying and in disbelief. He said that his parents weren't really meeting us there and that we were going to meet his parents and my mom at the Millerage.

This was the best night of my life!! I couldn't have asked for a better proposal. It was just so awesome and I get so emotional when I think about it

Re: Share your proposal story!!

LOOOONG story, but well worth it.

Part 1
I was at my fiance's apt. in Dec. 03, waiting for him and his mom to get back from his weeklong trip to FL. I decided to be nice and get his mail. As I was sorting through the mail, putting it into two piles (one for his mom, and one for him), I noticed a letter to my fiance from my best friend's dad. At first I was like 'WHY is my best friend's dad sending mail to my boyfriend?!'. Then it dawned on me-- my best friend's dad is a jeweler in the diamond district. When my fiance came home, I asked him about the letter-- expeciting him to say it was a brochure of engagement rings or something. Instead he said, all nonchalontly 'Oh, it's the appraisal on the engagement ring I bought you'. THANKS for ruining the surprise!

Part 2
Last February 21st, we were celebrating Valentine's Day (a week late, long story in itself), and we were supposed to meet friends in the city for dinner. My fiance picked me up at my car (I have to park far away from his apt. building b/c there's never parking), and instead of driving straight to the train station, he was acting very odd and said that he left his wallet upstairs. So I mentioned to him that his breath kinda smelled like garlic a bit and when he goes upstairs he should brush his teeth. Now we tell each other stuff like that all the time-- not being mean, that's just the way we are. Well he got VERY upset, and I was like 'Why are you getting all upset at me?'. Then in the elevator, I noticed his hair was very... gelled. So I asked him why he put more gel than normal in his hair, and he FLIPPED out on me. He was so upset at me, and I didn't know why-- I mean, we are always honest with each other, and say stuff like that to each other all the time. Then we finally get to his apt. First thing I notice is that the lights were off and there was a candelobra lit on his dining room table. Now my fiance is Jewish, so I thought maybe this had to do with shabbat (even though it was saturday after dark). So I said to him 'You know, I really respect your religion and all, BUT it's very unsafe to leave candles lit while you aren't even in your apartment!'. He just looked at me and laughed, and told me to take my coat off. I got confused... 'But you said you are just getting your wallet??'... then it sunk in. He proposed to me right then and there, in his living room, while playing one of my all time favorite songs (which I knew the very first time I heard it back in '99 that it would be my wedding song).

Hope you girls don't think I'm a b!tch, but my fiance and I are very upfront with each other-- we have the type of relationship where if I ask him if I 'look fat in this dress', he better tell me the truth, even if the answer is 'Yes!'

LaurenEMT that is the absolute cutest story!!! I work with kids under age 3 so I see Elmo everyday! How great is it that you have a one of a kind doll! If it's not too cheesy, you should think about having Elmo's voice announce your wedding party at the reception! Great Story!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

So now I have to share because My FH did work very hard!! All I ever told him was that the ring was not nearly as important to me as the way you ask. I have to know that it took a lot of time, thought and work. SO It was the weekend of my 25th birthday and I knew something was up. My mom was overly concerned with what I was wearing. The thought crossed my mind because we were going to see Beauty& the Beast and we had discussed before how great Times Square is. The play was amazing but we left Times Square and nothing. We had the most romantic dinner at Candela. Everything was yummy but I had NO room for dessert. Well he starts with 'You have to have dessert!' so I thought ohhhh OKAY.... Well dessert came and went and NOTHING. So we left the city and got back to his house when I walk in and there is my whole family and his family and friends yelling SURPRISE! THEN I understood why he was nervous and why my mom was concerned with my appearance. Well we start dancing and having a great time. Half way through it's time to sing Happy Birthday. My cake had been out the whole time so I didn't suspect ANYTHING. My FFIL asks if we could sing for his best friend cause it was his b-day weekend too. I said OF COURSE! He hands me another cake box and I start calling him over opening it up when all I can read is MARRY ME.........my FH was already on his knee holding my hand! My FH did an AWESOME job because nobody knew except his dad and my dad. ALL our family was screaming and crying together and we got EVERYTHING on tape and have great pics!

Re: Share your proposal story!!

Okay I will share too.....

Back in December Josh Groban Tix, went on sale and right before I was harassing FH to try and get tix b/c the last few times he was around the damn show sold out in 20 min. ( I love Josh Groban) ANyway he said he tried and couldn't so I was now determined to get them my self... Turns out he actually did, but had to give them to me 2 months in advance with the fear that I was going to get them and he already had them! Which leads me to The night of the concert. I had no idea by the way that he was going to do it this night... Anyway

2/11: The day started out bad and got progressively worse! , I was late getting home from work, finely get dressed b/c we had dinner reservations in the city that he had planed all nice b'c this was part of my b-day present (b-day is 2/15) My mother decides to tell me she thinks there's a mouse in the house and I need to go look for it! Uhm Helllooooo I'm all dressed walking out the door and she wants me to WHAT?? ANy way we get in the car are about to pull away and someone hits us from behind... Ok... getting worse We clear all that crap up... (no damage to the car by the way) and we're off... we are now in the city already 15 min. late for our res. and cant find parking... okay!!! NOW we get to the restaurant... NOT what we thought it was.... we then walk 12 blocks the MSG... now my feet are in agony (bad shoe choice) he's all pissy. ANd i'm in no mood.. So we give our tix and go to the escalators... he goes oh just wait a minute till the big crowd of people go away! ( he doesn't like the whole crowd thing) So no he's passing back and forth and I'm like do you have to pee??? He's like no... then he starts making me look for the tix.. give them to him he gives them back this went on for a good 10 min. finaly I'm like Uhm can we go to our seats now???? Then all of a sudden he's like wait..... 'you know I love you right?!?!' Uh... Yeah.. what's the problem.... lets go... All of a sudden right there in the middle of all the people he gets down on one knee and pops the question... Holy S**T.... YAY!!!!! I had no idea... all the people around started clappping... it was realy funny!

It turns out he had spoken to my mom like 2 months before and told her what was going on, and before we left, when I was in the shower he and my mom sat down with my son and he asked him if it was okay and that he loves mommy and wants us to all be a family! That in itself made me cry when i found all this out.... So my son knew before we even left the house, and when FI said good bye to him he winked and gave him the thumbs up!

ANd here we all are! sorry this was a bit long winded....
