I love reading everyone's stories. Here's mine: We picked out my ring together in early November so I knew we would be getting engaged sometime soon. I had to go to Las Vegas for work and we decided that he would come out at the end of the sales meeting and we would spend a long weekend there so I thought that he would probably propose. He came to Vegas and we had a great time and one night we went on the Gondola ride at the Venetian hotel and it was really romantic and I was thinking this is probably it but nothing happenend. We got home the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and on that Wednesday night I started crying because I had the ugliest cold sore and I didn't want everyone to see it on Thanksgiving. So he was telling me I was beautiful and not to worry about it and after a few minutes I got up and went in the kitchen to start cooking dinner and he came in while I was cutting some veggies and put his arms around me from behind and was kissing my hair which he does alot when I'm cooking and then he opened up his palm and said to me- will this make you feel better and I was shocked and kept saying OMG, OMG a million times and started crying and then he told me that he loved me and said Will you Marry me and finally I said Yes and he slipped the ring on my finger. It was the happiest moment of my life.....

This is long too:

I always thought I'd know when it was happening - I nearly ruined every romantic night that we've had in the last two years because I thought he was proposing. I would either frisk him (for the ring) or I'd freeze and almost start to cry (is he proposing?) and then get really sad (and often witchy) afterwords when he didn't. I put him through hell.

I first knew I wanted to marry him one 4th of July - it was such a beautiful night (I could go on and on about it...) so I thought he'd do it this year on that date. Nope. Halloween is another special day for us (I'm his 'pumpkin' and we're obessed with all things gothic and sexy like that) but when he didn't - boy did I flip out. He kept telling me he wouldn't do it on a holiday because I'd be expecting it.

I don't like Christmas and we were so busy in December that we decided to move Christmas and combine it with New Year's Eve and make a new holiday for ourselves. 2004 was such a mess for us (outside of our relationship, that is) so we were going to celebrate 2005.

I decorated the house like we were having a crazy party, we made nachos and had margaritas and exchanged gifts at 11:30pm. He was so snuggly and cuddly all night - he couldn't keep his hands off of me (not in a sexual way). He said he had one more present for me, that he left it under the bed. So I'm sitting on the bed and he's on his knees before me and... he hands me a present. For once, even though I thought he was proposing and he didn't - I wasn't upset. I was just loving him so much. We kissed at midnight and fell asleep shortly thereafter.

The next morning is when it happened. It is so beautiful and private that I haven't told anyone besides my mom what he said. He said the most beautiful things to me while holding me in his arms and covering my face with kisses. I said yes and cried so hysterically that I burst all the little blood vessels/capillaries under my eyes and I didn't even see the ring yet. When I finally did (I was so scared to look at it) I screamed 'Holy sh%!' and cried some more.

I was totally surprised. ...He even did it on a holiday.

I guess I missed this post when it was first posted. Anyway here is my proposal story:

FI and I have been talking about getting engaged. We looked for engagements rings together so I could give him some ideas of what I liked. So, I knew it was going to happen but I didn't know when. During our ring shopping I had fell in love with a ring that I had tried on, he said I was glowing when I tried it on. Well, a week or so later he took me out to dinner and asked me to marry him. He gave me the same ring I fell in love with and now I can glow forever. My parents new about this because he had asked them prior for my hand. Which I thought was sweet. I still can't believe I'm getting married.

We had had the most wonderful day. We had just had dinner at Dukes Canoe Club, which was our favorite restaurant. We took a romantic walk on the beach. You could hear Steel drums and Hawaiian music in the background. All the tiki torches were lit and beautiful. It was the perfect setting for the most memorable and perfect night of our lifes.
Danny told me to turn around because he got something for me. I turned my back to him, figuring he bought me something at the gift shop. He said ok, turn around... I turned around and there he was, down on one knee in the sand and shallow water. I was completely speechless for the first time in my life. I couldn't even speak, when i was finally able to muster a word, I said YES!!! and grabbed him and hugged him. Then, my shoes started floating away in the ocean, Danny ran in the water to get them. We then sat on the rock in the ocean and I started to cry, at that point I was so in the clouds I could barely speak, we just kept kissing. My purse then fell in the water, but I told him to just leave it in the water, at that point I did not care about anything, I was so happy and in love. We then took a walk, stopped to sit again and kiss. We went back to the hotel for a drink to celebrate, of course I had a Blue Hawaiian. I must have gotten 2 minutes of sleep that night, I kept running to the bathroom to stare at my left ring finger and to cry so many tears of joy! It turns out that he had my engagement ring in his fag bag during the tripp, just waiting for the perfect moment to propose, well he definetely picked it! It also turns out that he went with my grandma to the city to pick out my ring and that he had it since November in the safe in our basement, sneaky little boy! I will never forget how amazing that night was and how it changed my life forever. I must be the luckiest girl in the world to have found someone so wonderful and someone that I share the best relationship with. We are best friends and soon we will be husband and wife! I still can't believe it!

It was Dec 23rd 04- it was pouring that night - we went to city- last day of school before break- I wasnt in the mood- and he played it right because he didnt push it...eventually i decided ok lets go- before we left i went to the mailbox and i got my praxis scores - a test to be a teacher - i was nervous to open it cause i didnt know if i passed...BUT I DID

We went to city and saw a group of friends - not planned- he didnt want to say hi which i thought was weird- THEN we saw another group of friends- we ran into them-so we said hi but he quick to get away...

Looking back there were many things that were odd, but i never figured anything out

We went to take the prof. pictures they have set up at rockefellar center near the tree- and we took them... (So we have the RIGHT before pics)

Then, we started talking right near the angels, he handed video camera to a random man and asked if he could tape us near the tree- this didnt seem weird to me cause we do that kind of thing... Then i saw him take something out of his pocket- you hear me on the tape say, What are you doing? with a confused face on...he got on his knee and proposed to me... people were watching and congratulating us.. i was crying, we were sos excited

We called my parents, but they of course knew already cause he went to ask them the week before- drove to LI to ask instead of going to work one day- and got my ring in the city

actually the day he proposed... he went to the city to pick up ring- and then we went back at night

he had been back and forth all week long!

we celebrated with a beautiful dinner...and the next day we had christmas eve/ christmas at my home on LI with his family too IT WAs PErFECT!

We had plans to go into the city for the 2004 Thanksgiving Day parade along with my 2 bros, SIL, neice, nephew, and one of my bro's friends. It's been sort of a tradition for the past few years in my family, tho Kevin had never gone. He gets out of work late and was really dreading having to get up early, but the night b4 he kept repeating 'tomorrow is gonna be a good day'. Which is the same thing he said to me the night b4 he sent me flowers at work once, so I had a feeling something was up.

The next morning we took the train into Penn and I thought he was acting a lil weird but I just figured it was bc of his lack of sleep. So we were standing on the corner of 52nd and Broadway with everyone but there was a lot of foot traffic, so he suggested that the 2 of us move down towards the middle of the block, right outside of a Starbucks. I still had no idea at this point!

He squatted down to rest his legs from our long walk (or so I thought), apparently this is when he pulled the ring out of his pocket! Meanwhile I was looking around waiting for the parade to start. He then stood up, took my left hand, and said 'let's do this now'.

When I turned around he was down on one knee with the ring in one hand and my hand in the other, ready to be put on my finger. I asked him 'what are you doing?' just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. And he said 'you've made me happier than I've ever been in my whole entire life, I want you to be my wife', then he slid the ring on my finger. Needless to say I was ecstatic!!!! We hugged tightly and he asked 'is that a yes?', so I said 'yes it's a yes'!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I needed him to hold me up during the whole parade bc my knees were just so weak I couldn't stand on my own! The parade was like a celebration just for us and I kept shouting 'we're engaged!!!!' to all the people on the floats while I showed them my left hand!!!

It was so nice bc my family was waiting back at my mom's house for dinner (she and my bro were the only ones who knew). And it was great when we arrived (actually we ended up getting a later train back while looking for a bathroom, so everyone else got there b4 us!), I was bursting to make our announcement!! We walked in and were beaming, everyone was so happy and congratulated us!! He got on the phone with his family and you could hear the releif in his voice, it was so nice! We were both so tired from all the excitement tho! It was the best Thanksgiving ever and certainly my new favorite holiday!!! Of course, we'll be going back again this year!

I later found out that he had asked my grandparents for their blessing and they told him they loved him and how happy he made me, they'd be honored for him to become family! Also, the engagement ring is the one my father gave my mother, she mentioned it to Kevin and told him he could take it when he was ready. Originally he was going to do it for my b-day (a week later) but he wanted to do it when my family was together. So the night b4 Thanksgiving he told my mom he'd need the ring. He was so afraid he was gonna lose it on the train!!

It's such a great story, I love it! And I love him so very much!!!

We were up by his parents house for New Years I just got back from shopping with his sister. He comes up to me hugs me kisses me and says Jenn you know I love you right. I just looked at him and said why are you being so lovey dovey for then puts his arms around me and says I have another christmas gift for you. I was like ok and not knowing what it was he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him.

It was nice but he was actually supose to wait for new years and do it when the ball dropped. That would of been more romantic. Also I would of liked it if some of my family was around or if it was just the two of us.

He also told me he was gonna wait till the end of January and propose in front of everyone at our daughters c hristening which I thought would of been really nice cuz both families would of been there aloong with some of our friends. but his mother couldn't wait and pushed him to do it sooner.

It's a bit long but worth it and the way I had always imagined it to be...August 28, 2004

A dear friend of mine was getting married in Boston...so we decided to make it a nice weekend to getaway. The wedding was Friday night. On Saturday, we would spend the whole day in Boston which included a Red Sox game that night (we're both very big baseball fans).

We spent the day doing tours and browsing around shops. It was at Faneuil (sp?) Hall where we had a late lunch/early dinner and where we would come upon a Celtic store. I've always wanted a Claddagh (sp?) ring...I am not Irish but I've always had this fascination with everything Irish. So we went in and I made my way to the jewelry section...and I found the perfect ring w/ my birthstone. We bought it but 'I couldn't wear it yet' - he told me. I was sure he was going to ask me officially on my birthday (9/1 on Wed.)

In the top of the 4th inning, I had got up to use the bathroom. When I got back at the bottom of the 4th (long lines)...John got up and the guy next to me got up, so I assumed someone next to us was trying to get to the aisle...so I looked down to gather my things to get up as well. And when I look up, he's on one knee (and these rows are very narrow)...I kept on saying 'What are you doing?' I must have said it 5 times b/c I don't remember hearing anything he said. All I remember him saying was 'What's your answer?' and smiling with anticipation.

I said yes and our whole section cheered us on...and the Sox went on to win the game. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!
