I'm having ceremony in church and then a reception in a hall. Maybe if I get a nice hall, I won't take pictures outside and can take them indoors?

Damn, I was so happy that Westbury Manor is very cheap for Fridays in winter, but they said I'd be scheduled for 8:30-1:30. Too late, considering there'd be children there also, they'd be getting all cranky.

I don't think that's too late- I had children at my wedding. The ceremony was from 7.30-8.00
The cocktail from 8.00-9.00 and the ceremony till 1... my wedding was a Friday too!

I think that would be fine and I don't think you'll be cold at all- I had a wrap- but I had so much adrenaline going, I felt nothing.

I suppose if I have a 5pm church ceremony, it's not so bad.

Maybe I can go for a shawl or wear those long white gloves. Does anyone wear the long white gloves anymore?

I wore gloves for the church. They were right above the elbow. My dress had cap sleeves on it, so the gloves made it a little more wintery.

We got married in March and it was the warmest day! The only problems that I had were the days that led up to the wedding... It snowed so much this year and it snowed into March... it made it difficult for me to run around and get things done quick. A few people couldn't make it to our rehearsal dinner because of the unexpected snow storm, but I wouldn't have changed that date for anything!!!

Question:

I am hesitant about a Sunday wedding, but I think it'd be good if it was before a holiday on a Monday like President's Day. Do most people get off from work on President's Day? I just don't want people to have to work the next day so they can relax and have fun.

I got married February 15, 2003 and it was absolutely wonderful. It was definately the coldest day of the year and we got hit with a huge snowstorm the day after our wedding butI am so glad we had a winter wedding.
I had a black and white wedding and it felt so elegant and fitting for the day after valentine's day. I also think people enjoy going to weddings in the winter because it is something fun to do. So many people have their weddings in the warmer weather that leave the winter months long and boring after the holidays. My husband and I have 7 weddings to go to in 2004. Six of the weddings are from June to September. Only one is in January. Although I know I will enjoy myself at all of the weddings, six weddings in three months can get a little old. The January wedding will be a nice pick me up after everyone settles down after the holidays.

I got married on 12/21 this year & we had a fabulous day ... temps were in the upper 40's (which is very mild for Dec.). I wore a dress with cap sleeves & a silver fox stole over it which complimented my dress perfectly for when we were outside. The girls wore wraps for the times they were actually outside, which was minimal & everyone was FINE!

Dresses these days don't adhere to seasonal rules. You wear strapless if you want strapless .... there's nothing wrong with it & you'll be able to find them ANYWHERE you look. I might not wear open toed shoes, but then again, no one really sees them except YOU! And if you want gloves, and you like them, wear them, too! NO RULES, these days, sweetie. Do What Makes You HAPPY!!!!

I also found, as someone mentioned, that our guests were really excited about the wedding. Summers are booked with all sorts of social obligations & a lot of people dread the summer weddings b/c there are so many to attend! This gives them something to look forward to & the mood will be very festive!!

As far as being cheaper, the only thing that we found was that the hall was cheaper to book off season, so it allowed us to book a place that would have been more expensive during the summer. We found better availability with vendors, but not much difference in price. So you wind up spending the same money, really.

I never thought that I would have gotten married at Christmas & it was wonderful! I'm so glad that we did! Good luck!

I got married on 12/21 too. We had a beautiful winter wedding. Even though it was pleasantly warm that day I wore a fur coat over my wedding dress and my girls wore silver dresses with silver shawls. I also found that people were excited to go to a holiday/winter wedding. I also think its romantic and different. Plus we had the whole reception site to ourselves. Here's a pic of me in my jacket. I still went with purple flowers but I had a lot of Christmas/winter foliage.

Edited to say my dress was strapless.

I got married 12/15 and we did an winter wonderland theme. We actually ahd a really nice day, but the ground was wet so we did not do too many outdoor pictures (but that can happen any time of year). I love that the halls are so beautifully decorated that time of year. I loved getting married in the winter!
