In pre cana this doesnt matter- BUT when you go to meet the priest- expect a dislike to it and sometimes a bit of an attitude- at least that is what we experienced- his exact words- ' why get married by the catholic church- why not just go and get your piece of paper at the town hall'----- this was said when he found out we live together. DH answered him b/c I was fuming.

.
our priest was very understanding...i had my daughter from a previous relationship and we included her in our ceremony...plus we we living 'in sin' already... and still our priest understood that 'times have changed'

i'm still shocked by ur priests obvious distaste!!

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

I don't understand why so many people on this board are surprised-shocked-disgusted-etc. by a priest having a problem with a couple living in sin. You are going to a Catholic church and requesting that your marriage be blessed by the church, in the eyes of God. Why should you not be expected to follow the rules that have been established by Him??? No, it is not easy being human, it is not easy living a life where you have to answer to a higher power and show constraint when it comes to human desires. The church's doctrines have been established for well over 2,000 years, they are based on years of study and most importantly based on the Bible, not on some morally relative TV sitcom. Just because people want to do what 'Feels good' doesn't mean that it is right and thank God (literally) the Church does not bend to every whim and fancy that American society tries to tell us is OK. If you don't agree with the church's teachings, please, like the one priest suggested-go to the town hall.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

oh dear...

If everyone followed 1 persons rules... we would live in a horrible world... much worse then we live today.

There are many changes in the world b/c we live and learn everyday...

gays marriages... inter-racial marriages... Slavery... Women's movements...

If you don't believe in having the right to vote, having the right to have a job then I would really rethink your statements... Our society changes throughtout times... and I am not saying that all things should change... but if you saw my post above... If they weren't so strict about priest-hood... they wouldn't have to molest little boys... We hardly hear about this at any other parish where priest/ministers are allowed to be married... I am not saying that all rules should be changed, but sometime you must change with the times.

???? I don't really get your response-right to vote-jobs-interracial marriage??? My statement was related to Catholicism. And this 1 person you mentioned-you mean Jesus Christ? He was more than just one person. And I guess if you were Catholic, you would know this. What I am saying is if a couple does not agree with the beliefs and doctrines of a certain religion-Don't practice it! Find another home-this is called free will. And by the way, the Catholic church has changed many of their policies over the past 2,000 years. Changes that would require getting rid of one of the 10 commandments probably require a little bit more reason than 'Hey-Everyone is doing it-so it must be right!'

As for your comments re: the problems with molestation-yes human beings are weak, not just Priests molest 'little boys' Rabbis, Pastors, lawyers, doctors, accountants are also guilty of this.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

You are right... I don't follow many of the Catholic Rules... because most of them are crazy like you.

We were having a pleasant conversation about Pre-cana... and then you needed to come in and give off all your negative energy... This board is for learning... Not criticizing... I am only taking it to the next level b/c you are patronizing me.

In my opinion, bashing the Catholic church is not a pleasant conversation about Pre-Cana. This board is for learning-yes! I agree. So that is why I posted a statement defending the Church's right to have a problem with co-habitation and pre-marital sex. If people have a problem with the church's teachings on this, then go get married in the town hall, don't come on here bad mouthing a Priest for standing up for what he believes in. Then you throw in the molestation scandal-what does that have to do with Pre-Cana?
I am not critical of anyone in their life choices-do what you want, I don't care. But don't criticize the church-find a house of worship that caters to your needs and move on.

If someone is nervous about attending Pre-Cana because they know they have not been living in a manner that coincides with the church's teachings, they should speak to their priest, discuss it with their future spouse, go to confession & take a good look at their life and ask themselves why they want to get married in the Catholic church.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

'Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone'

'can't we all just get along?'

'you get more bees with honey than vinegar'

I have more sayings, but hopefully we all get the point.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

By the way, prinses777, I'm sorry this happened when you were just inquiring about our religion. I am Catholic but I am not perfect and I don't stand in judgement of anyone. Priests are not perfect either. Look at St. Peter, the Catholic church was founded on him, yet, he denied Jesus three times! But, fortunately, there are some very Godly, kind and understanding priests out there. During confessions I have had, I've discussed having had sex before marriage with them a few times, along with other taboo subjects and never felt like they gave me an attitude or looked down on me in any way. It all depends on who you deal with, hopefully finding a priest that you like and respect. I wish you the best and hope that you find what you are looking for; please let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! My FH and I fell in love with it the second we saw it... and then we kept 'shopping around' just because it was our first big thing for our wedding... I almost kept talking myself out of it b/c I was so nervous to make a decision... But then we finally just said to go with it... and I am sooooooo happy we did... I don't know what I was thinking... I think I was just scared. Understandable I guess.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question

hahahahahah you are too funny!!!

My FH and I were thinking of making masks and putting them on everyone's chairs... when they enter the ballroom...

We are both in the fashion industry... so we are a little creative... we kind of wanted it to be a surprise until you walk into the ballroom and everyone has masks hehehhe so much fun...

Everytime I think of it... I think it is so much fun... but also so cheesy, like everyone would be like... what is wrong with this girl...
