BTW-I was not 'casting any stones'
I love how the person who says things like - 'I would be like... 'Well why do so priest become a priest if thy are going to wind up molesting little boys!? Why not just skip the entire priest-hood and go directly to jail' and 'If they weren't so strict about priest-hood... they wouldn't have to molest little boys...' and 'You are right... I don't follow many of the Catholic Rules... because most of them are crazy like you' gets sympathy.
I did nothing but speak my mind and defend my religion. I called no one a sinner. All I said is that if you feel this way about the church, don't get married in it and don't come on here bad mouthing my religion. If this person was saying these things about the Jewish faith flames would be jumping all over her calling her an anti-Semite, if she said these things about a Muslim, people would be screaming racism. Why is it OK to persecute Catholics and get away with it? Everyone is welcome in the Catholic church, but don't expect the church to sell something it is not in the business of selling.

I don't understand why so many people on this board are surprised-shocked-disgusted-etc. by a priest having a problem with a couple living in sin. You are going to a Catholic church and requesting that your marriage be blessed by the church, in the eyes of God. Why should you not be expected to follow the rules that have been established by Him??? No, it is not easy being human, it is not easy living a life where you have to answer to a higher power and show constraint when it comes to human desires. The church's doctrines have been established for well over 2,000 years, they are based on years of study and most importantly based on the Bible, not on some morally relative TV sitcom. Just because people want to do what 'Feels good' doesn't mean that it is right and thank God (literally) the Church does not bend to every whim and fancy that American society tries to tell us is OK. If you don't agree with the church's teachings, please, like the one priest suggested-go to the town hall.
I would like to respond to this as a practicing Catholic and someone who did not live with a fiance before marriage.
First, the church does not endorse premartial sex and after MANY years of Catholic education, I understand that. It is possible to live together without having sex, and I actually have known people who have done this for economic reasons. It is presumptuous to assume people are 'living in sin' without knowing anything about their personal life.
Second, and in my opinion, more importantly, when a priest is meeting with a couple who is 'living in sin' who are ready and willing to have the church bless their union, they have a great opportunity to welcome them back into the church. I find it disappointing that instead of doing that, and trying to get younger people involved in the church again, they choose to lecture them, which probably turns some people off permenantly. Not all priests give people the lecture, and the smart ones try to encourage people to make time in their lives again for faith.

I love how you say 'I was not casting any stones' yet you are obviously still hooked on talking about me...
Just get over it... You obviously have nothing better then to just criticize other people... This was 2 days ago and everyone has moved on...
I was brought up catholic and I am still practicing... and if I don't believe some of the rules... I DON'T HAVE TO! I am my own person and do not have to prove my self to anyone... ESPECIALLY YOU! Please move on...
You already do not have a good reputation on this board. Don't make it any worse

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
If I have a bad reputation for defending my faith, I am happy to bear that burden. I will not stand quietly by and have my religion degraded. As for moving on, I can say the same for you...Have a good day

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Carlesbride, I am so proud of you! I agree with so much of what you are saying, specifically, how accepted it has become for society to openly criticize Catholics. So many Catholics, do not defend their faith and over time, distortions have grown. It saddens me that Catholics are expected to accept prejudices and many of us continue allowing it.Another good point- child molesters are all around us, taking on many different professions. I encourage ALL victims to speak out. As a social worker, I came to realize that many other religions, have experienced the same tragedies, only their progress in speaking out is evolving more slowly than Catholic victims.
Carlesbride, you have intelligently articulated your spirituality!

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Pre cana has nothing to do w/ prayers. i attend church on Christmas and Easter and that's it and I was totally comfortable at pre cana. There was a little bit of religion talk (really just reading from the Bible) but the rest is all about communication, family , etc.

Re: spinoff to Catholic bride question
Sorry - I felt the need to reply to an old post. The way I look at this site - it's a place to get information, a place to vent, and a place to share. It's sad when people look at it as so much more than that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and no one should be chastised for sharing it. If I disagree with something someone says in a post, I choose not to respond.
Part of the problem is things can sometimes be interperted differently than how they're written - keep that in mind when reading and writing on the site. I don't think anyone means to offend other readers, but there could be a few out there...and we should just ignore them.
The site is called LI Weddings - and Weddings are happy occasions...let's try to keep this site possitive, sympathetic, and most of all helpful.
Now - back to the real purpose of this thread - our precana was 1 day, we had a prayer and attended mass after where they blessed our engagement rings - really nice. My FH and I refer to ourselves as Cafeteria Catholics - we pick and choose what we follow in the religion based on what we believe in...I think that's what religion is all about - interpretation. Our priest was pretty liberal and realistic for today's society...not to preachy. At the same time, we're very happy we're going to get married by a Deacon - because he can live life like the rest of us - get married, have kids, etc....it's more realistic for the way we live today and fits our personalities better.
Good luck to everyone.
