The Carltun
Hi everyone! Does anyone have any comments about The Carltun? Does anyone have a general idea of what they charge per head? How about Carlyle on the Green?
Where will you store it until the big day? forigve the questions....but my date is fast approaching (3/25)...I was planning on getting it very close to the day (week before) but now I'm not sure....help?
Think about this place if your looking for a good tux shop, the selection was really good
The Carltun
my daughter and i went there it was 100-130 a person. very pretty but way to expensive. those prices are b4 tax and tip
IT WAS GREAT!! Paul, who usually is very uncomfortable on the dance floor, was laughing and having a great time! I highly recommend it for anyone who is uncomfortable dancing - its great for building confidence!
And we finally chose a song too - for those who are familiar with Jim Brickman, its called "Your Love" on the Destiny album. The track BEFORE the title song.....

THEY ARE OUTRAGEOUS! YOU HAVE TO GUARUNTEE 175 PEOPLE AND THEY MAKE YOU PAY FOR 1 VALET FOR EVERY 35 GUESTS. WHEN ALL WAS ADDED UP THEY WANTED $50,001 NO KIDDING THEY WOULDN'T EVEN DROP THE EXTRA DOLLAR. OTHER PLACES ARE JUST AS GOOD WITHOUT THE PRICETAG----GOOD LUCK
We decided on Nick's in the town of Montauk. It is a great spot if you are having a small (we are having about 110)wedding. We rented the second floor which is mostly all windows looking out onto the ocean.Claire & Nick are so nice to do business with and the food is great.
There is an entrance to the beach just outside the restaurant. We are having our ceremony there.

The Carltun is very expensive but I think the service and food will be great. I'm having my wedding there later this year. I have been to Carlyle on the Green. During the fall the view of the golf course is gorgeous. I believe it was $95 to $125 a person. Good luck.
The food at Nick's is very good!

I went to see them about a month ago. They were asking $220.00 per head for a Saturday evening wedding in November 2001. I thought the place was beautiful but out of my price range. I also didn't like the idea of paying extra money for the valets. I didn't see Carlyle on the Green but I think the are suppose to be good. We booked Fox Hollow CC and are extremely happy with our choice. Good Luck with your planning.
I didn't know anyone knew about it besides us! :)
I cared plenty for my flowers *Thank You* for your posting

The Carltun and Carlyle On The Green are owned by the same people. Great reputation, but expensive. Very pretty for a spring/summer wedding.
I went to Party City in Stony Brook to buy them and found the caps to be very difficult to remove. I really couldn't get them off - they were the once w/the single dove. That would be bad for little kids and older family members w/arthritis.

The real story is that one of the owner of C-O The Green was one of the Original partners in Cartun. I've worked with both places for years. Good reputations and fantastic facilities but brides MUST look at value. VALUE is the quality of food, service and "included" or packaged extras you get for your cost per person. You are looking at two of the top places on LI. Of course they are "pricey" certain times of the year, but you get what you pay for. The honest reality is that Carltuns food is good not great. C-O the Greens food is very inconsistant. The Garden City Hotel is in the same price range and is a better value for the $$.There are some hidden values out there that you need to discover for yourselves. For example investigate the Harrison Conf. Center, DeSeversky Center, Metropolitan, and some country clubs. Many brides are unaware that some private clubs will do weddings for non-members (but they are not allowed to advertise it). These are the places that will charge more but you can rest assured that you will get a well executed function you can be proud of. Also note that all of these places have dates they will be negotiable on. The key to saving money is for you to be as flexible on dates, days of the week, months and start times. If you can do that you will save $. If possible consider having your ceremonies at the hall, that usually offers ample flexibility. And last of all please be very wary of the big mega multiple room wedding factories( I've worked in a couple) and unfortunatly you are just a # to them. If that's what your budget will allow so be it, so long as you know they don't have the capabilities to give personalized service ( especially on the day of the event, it's mayhem). Just a thought.

Marc, Excellent advice. I would add Flowerfield to your list of top choices. Also, private restaurants could be a good choice. You know the food + you can often reserve the entire restaurant. I've worked @ Panama Hattie's and La Pace + both affairs were extraordinary. Outside catering @ halls w/o food is another possibility (The Neighborhood House in Setauket is a little known local Inn/house that is available for rent w/your own caterer) Also, be wary of pretentiousness @ some of the more upscale places. You could either appreciate it or be repulsed by it.
Planning everything just me and my fi- and I am paying for everything. Two aunts have pitched into make the pillows, flower girl baskets. and decorate the toasting glasses and make the brides bag....

Also Danford's Inn in Port Jeff + The Miller Pl. Inn. There are many Inns and small places tucked away that give excellent service/food/atmosphere and might even be affordable (w/o the pretentiousness of some of the more well known places)

Marc, I was back tracking a bit with the messages and was interested in your note concerning quality/price/etc. Thanks for your input. If you can suggest a nice place with great food and service, I'd be interested to hear about them! Jeannine
