RAB being Sirius' brother alsmot makes too much sense...because then of course there's the locket harry coulsn't open in grimmauld place. It makes perfect sense, which is what makes me think there has to be a glitch somewhere

These are all good theories about RAB and Snape...I still don't like Snape... there is something about him that doesn't sit well with me, but I guess we won't know until the next one, 2 years from now.

Does anyone think they know who R A B is?
Regulus Black - Sirius' brother who was a Death Eater.
ETA: I'm pretty certain the handwriting is similar, even.
I am so bad at making connections like this!!
ETA: I LOVED THE BOOK!!
It was so much better than the 5th, IMHO.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
i thought RAB may be the owner of that shop in Knockturn Alley, where Draco went in the beginning of the book.. I don't remember the first name, but their last names ended with B, and they had all sorts of 'dark' trinkets going through there. Who knows what they may have picked up in the meanwhile? And Voldy worked there after Hogwarts..That's my wild guess!
I think Book 7 will be Harry playing cat and mouse with RAB, whoever they are lol.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I am devestated beyond words...I am calling JK evil for leaving us hanging in this way.The last book needs to be super long to answer all the questions we now have.
But Ive got to poll you guys.....there were a few threads on here about people who didnt get the 'reading a kids book' thing. Does anyone feel like this should even be considered a 'Childrens book' anymore? This was so much more dark and sad than I ever imagined.
Ife Ive been reduced to tears and fell numb with shock, what are kids thinking?
Just curious

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
uhh you guys are gonna hate my theory...BUTI think harry is the last horcrux. I think it makes sense because he speaks parsel tongue etc and also because his most vicious murders were lily and james..
It also coordinates with the prophecy
'one cannot not survive while theother lives'
If harry kills voldemort, then voldemort cannot survive while harry is alive. I am almost tempted to say harry will have to die in order to end it all but I just dont know if JK will do that.
I am so hoping Im wrong.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
To put some of your minds at ease:Go to www.the-leaky-cauldron.org .
The editor of that site was able to interview JKR just after finishing book 6, along with the editor of mugglenet.com .
As for the Harry= Horcrux theory, I seriously doubt it. That would require Harry to live through the curse, and Voldemort didn't intend Harry to live. The idea of a living, breathing person being a Horcrux just doesn't sit well in my mind. Besides, Voldemort certainly didn't intend to pass along some of his powers and abilities to Harry, let alone part of his soul.
As to the prophecy, JKR had some interesting points to raise in the interview. She points out that Dumbledore believes that the Prophecy is only relevant because Voldemort, and Harry in return, make it so. If both of them were to shake hands and go home, agreeing to disagree as it were, that they could both survive while the other one lived and the prophecy would be rendered obsolete.
As for Regulus being 'too obvious' I've been thinking about it quite a bit lately. I'm re-reading the book to DH (our tradition is that I read it to him), and we're only 200 pages in and Regulus has been mentioned like 6 times. She has reminded us over and over and over again that Sirius had a brother who died when he tried to leave the Death Eaters, oh, and his name was REGULUS BLACK. I kinda get the feeling (from this and from the interview on leaky/mugglenet) that she wants us to work this one out. I don't think this is another Mark Evans fiasco.

I agree with you...JK is very deliberate with her choices. She never just mentions a character without using them to advance the plot.
I also agree with many of you that Snape is definitely a 'good' guy. I feel that DD was pleading with Severus to kill him. I think he knew it was the only way for him to obtain the trust of the Death Eaters and prove his 'devotion' to Voldemort.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I agree a horcrux would have to be intentional. Also, it's part of a soul, if part of someone else's SOUL were in you, you might know it. Also, when Voldemort trued to possess HArry at the end of Book 5, he couldn't do it b/c of Harry's power - Love. So it's a thought and ti would lead to a lot of dramatic tension, but I'm not sure it's entirely plausible. You never know though.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
All very interesting theories....help me out because I have a bad memory and it has been ages since I read book 5.Why did DD say that the prophesy could have been talking about harry or neville? What did the prophesy say exactly other than while one lives, the other cannot survive?

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
I don't have the book on me, so I can;t tell you exactly, but it said that it aplied to the dark lord and one who was born as the 7th month dies to parents who had defied the dark lord 3 times. It said the dark lord would make the child his equal and one cannot live while the other survives.
So because of the parentage and the birth month, it could have been harry or neville, but it is clear that it applies to harry either because it could only have applied to harry or because he was the one voldemort CHOSE to make the prophecy about.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
The Prophecy'the one born with the power to vanquish the dark lord approaches...born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies....and The dark lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have Powers the dark lord knows not....and Either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives...the One with The power to vanquish the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies...'

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
So, if DD's curse on Harry came undone when DD died, would the curse on Neville's parents be undone when that wizard/witch dies? (I can't remember who cursed them).I also thought that Harry was the last Horcrux, but then how could Voldemort have made Harry the horcrux if he was simultaneously trying to kill Harry?
I'm thinking that something in the old home of James and Lilyl is the last Horcrux, but maybe not since Voldy was so weakened after his attacks on the Potters.
I think that when Harry goes to Bill's wedding, he'll hook up with Ginny again and kind of agree to keep it a secret, for her protection. But, I think it will be made very clear that after his mission, he will come back and be with Ginny.
And, I think Harry will go back to Hogwarts- maybe to kind of look after the other students. I think he'll spend most of his time away from Hogwarts, but he'll still be a 7th year student.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
JK was aksed if there was anyone else present when Harrys mom and dad died and she said 'no comment'I think there HAD to be someone there to kill Voldemort. They said the the Avada Kedavra curse does not leave marks and also that it does not cause detruction and they said the house was blown apart.
I think that if someone else killed Voldemort maybe he made harry a horcrux out of neccesity instead of intentionally.

Re: The 'I'm done reading Harry Potter 6 and I'm talking about it' thread
hmm...what was Dumbledore's definition of a horcrux? It had to have some personal meaning to someone. And, I don't think it fits to have Harry as the horcrux because Voldy wants to kill Harry. That would diminish his amount of horcruxes to 6 and he doesn't want to do that.Although, it does fit that Harry would die at the end of book 7. Otherwise, we end up having 'Harry Potter and the Wedding' 'Harry Potter and the New House' 'Harry Potter and the new Car'
It has to end somewhere. But, what a terribly depressing way to end the series- by killing Harry.

So, if DD's curse on Harry came undone when DD died, would the curse on Neville's parents be undone when that wizard/witch dies? (I can't remember who cursed them).
Neville's parents aren't cursed. Bellatrix LeStrange caused them so much pain using the Crucio that they went insane. If they were cursed, someone could have performed a countercurse to reverse the affects.

JKR has said about 1,000,000 times that she will not write any more than the 7 books, whether Harry lives or dies. The books were meant to be the 7 years of Hogwarts, no more, no less.
Oh, someone else said something about the Avada Kedavra not causing damage or leaving lasting affects. There is one exception to this rule - when the curse backfired on Voldemort, due to Lily's sacrfice, ie, Love. (The following is a guess, the above is canon) The curse's backfiring could have caused all the damage, or maybe it could have been the affects on Voldemort, considering that he was so far gone, and there was nothing remaining of him in the wreckage.
