thanks girls....im the most upset that they can't try to 'work something out', instead they are trying to negotiate with my MOH

if i was a bm and didnt have the money right now i would be honest and say 'i can only give you $___ right now, i will try to get more together in the next few months' but thats just me

I'm kinda in the same position, except my bridesmaids are all out of state and don't make very much money so I feel bad asking them to pay for my shower considering they won't even be around for it. My future MIL wants to call them up and ask them for money, but I feel funny doing this. I say we just have it at somebody's house and have some appetizers and wine and I'd be perfectly happy, but I think my future MIL feels pressure to have it at a fancy restaurant and pay a fortune. Not sure what to do about it either, and its frustrating that everyone is stressing me out about it. I'm about to say forget the whole shower its causing more stress than its worth.

Maybe your MOH can say that their shower gift to you is what they contribute. For a good friend I would easily spend $100 on a shower gift. Maybe they think they have to pay for the shower and buy a gift on top of that.. If your MOH explains that the contribution is the gift maybe then they will budge.
