Gratuity?? Inside Scoop
That's exactly what they do at Villa in Holbrook. I would even go there for a wedding much less have my wedding there!
I know this to be true. In some Halls they even take the tips from the coat check girl. This matter really needs to be exposed!
tip - maitre de
I think the ponit of this whole matter is: You may want to look over the Contract and ask a question or two. Most Halls are misleading and do not get enough of these kind of questions. Understand, You may be paying more than you should be. 18% more!
Gratuity?? Inside Scoop
So why not tell them? If more people would come forward it might unlimitate the 18%
Gratuity?? Inside Scoop
I think everyone is overreacting about the gratuity at the facilities - you should all GO TO MANHATTAN and pay OVER 21% - sometimes I don't think these message boards are very productive!! You can not dictate what you think should be the way things should be - NEXT you all will not want to pay TAX - good luck!
I sent a general e-mail about not tipping and not feeding the photographer (ie, not solely directed to you which means I am not the one with reading issues). I wish you the very best on your wedding day along with every other bride that comes to this chat room.
I feel as comfortable with my photographer as I do with anyone else that I enter a business relationship with. You hope they do their job well and just pray for the best. I've never used him before; we do not go "way back"; his samples are very nice, he's received very good feedback, and that's about it. What more am I supposed to know to make me trust him more? Absolutely nothing. I just assume financial incentives and common courtesty mean alot in the service industry which is why I plan to make sure my photographer is happy (notice how I didn't say band, dj, videographer, etc.) That's all folks.

I think that's wrong. I know brides who couldn't AFFORD to tip much at their weddings or at all for that matter and their weddings were beautiful and it DIDN'T show. What showed is that they were married with a beautiful ceremony, no-one was hungry or thirsty at their reception and their vendors performed and came through beautifully. I think if you can tip and want to, then you should, but I don't think we should make brides or grooms on here feel that their weddings will show cheap because they can't afford major tipping. Just my opinion.

I have to agree, Kate. This site should be a place for support and encouragement. No one here should be judging anyone, especially since none of us really know each other. I am extremely self-conscious of some of the choices I have made for my wedding in order to save money, including a not quite extravagent cocktail hour. All we can really do is OFFER advice, not shove it down each other's throats. Tipping will always be a sensitive issue, and everyone will always have their own ideas about it.

I totally agree with everything you said. I've heard of backyard weddings that were phenomenal. People calling other people cheap is hilarious and immature...
Lets face it we all value money differently and we were all brought up differently.... You can value your money (aka here as "cheap") and still have 100,000 saved up in the bank,(aka "smart") or you can just be viewing things differently (spend spend) simply because your parents are paying for the wedding (nothing wrong with that)...
Well Said!

ha ha ha ha - Thanks for the giggle. Very well put. It is very sad that their may be some brides or grooms on here who are being intimidated by rich folk who say you SHOULD tip BIG! and you are right that Daddy is paying for a lot of some girls weddings, where as, probably 80% of the population getting married today pays for their own. My dad helped me by giving me a very generous gift; "on my wedding day", but up until my wedding day, I saved, scrounged, skimped on other things to have my day. His gift was a surprise and I didn't count on it. I did tip my vendors, but I tipped what I could afford. People can call me cheap, but I don't feel I was. My tips: $60.00, $40.00, $50.00 and $300 - Maitre De'. I did not receive an attitude from any one of them and yes, they thanked me!

Good for you Kate !!
These primadonnas i'm sure are the types who HAVE to wear their DKNY outfit to go grocery shopping...LOLOL, and are self conscious if their clothes DOESNT have a label...meanwhile the rest of us feel good with our hair in a bun in sweats and T-Shirt :)
(PS - i've worked as an assistant buyer in majro department stores, so the high price to pay for brand names is just that - a high price - so we need these girls to keep Armani and Tommy in business) I know better, so i NEVER pay retail..SALES baby :) You'd be suprised if you knew the least bit about fabrics and manufacturing...if you knew the mark-up on these items you would die...but hey if your charge card is connected to daddy's bank account, why should you care ?? LOL

Okay, Let's Stop This Nonsense
Let's just leave this alone. Like I said, everyone is different. If you have money to spend, great, but please don't make folks who don't have $30,000 for a reception feel that their wedding will be cheap because they don't have the money anyone else has. It's very unfair and not what a wedding is about. It doesn't matter how much you spend on your wedding, the bottom line is the sacrament you are making! Let's all reflect on that a little.
Its a Jasmine gown. Was wondering if any of you have had any experiences w/their product line. I thought it odd that "The Knot" doesn't have their products on their gown site....
Any and all feedback would be appreciated!
well said Kate
