- don't take things personally. Your wedding is one of the most important days in your life (up to this point), but just because someone can't be there, or isn't showing you the same excitement that you have, doesn't mean that they dont care about you or arent happy for you. One day isn't worth severing relationships that you've had for years.![]()
i totally agree with this! too many people get so wrapped up in wanting the wedding to be perfect and wanting people to fall all over them for their wedding, that they can ruin good relationships.
of course, you want your wedding to be as perfect as it can be, but its also just ONE DAY out of a lifetime... its not worth loosing important relationships over. 10 years down the line, a lot of these 'big issues' won't matter.
also, i would say to try to be at your coctail hour if you can. it gives you a great chance to talk to your guests and thank them for coming, so then you can really enjoy your reception to the fullest.
other than that, just enjoy it all!! this is a exciting time in your life, and there really is nothing like being a bride

Re: To the 06'ers from the 05'ers
Have fun! You know I love the 06ers and you all deserve great weddings. My advice???
1. Don't worry too much about what the other brides here are stressed over. You might have different concerns than they do and as long as you focus on the aspects that matter to you, you will be fine.
2. If you put your Bo-k down during the ceremony, don't forget it when you walk back up the aisle. I loved my bouquet but kept leaving it places!!!
3. See if your hair person can come back during the reception to fix you up. Mine removed my veil part way through the reception and fixed my hair.
4. Hire a great band or DJ. Makes all the difference!
5. If you are prone to motion sickness and want to dance the hora and be lifted up, be aware that sometimes the 2 don't mix.
I'm not kidding though! 6. Must do: slipper basket, bathroom toiletry basket, VIDEO, Zap shots (w/ the screens, and have them give you the digital files, we got an extra 350 photos in hi-res--glad we did this instead of table cameras, and cost was similar, FM me for info as to my vendor on this!).
7. Be yourself on your wedding day! No reason to act super formal if you aren't that way normally!

Re: To the 06'ers from the 05'ers
i also forgot one more thing
with the music... if you're having a DJ, let him do his job and pick some of the music.... its definitely ok to request certain songs or have him not play certain songs... but let him do his job.
we went to a wedding in october, and the bride gave the DJ a list of songs and told him not to deviate from it... it was all her taste, and they were more like ' bar songs' like 'livin on a prayer', 'sweet caroline', etc... not really songs you can dance much to.... so not many people were up dancing and she was getting mad the whole time that they weren't
so, basically, the DJ does this every weekend, probably sometimes more than once, so he knows what songs will get people up and help people have a good time.....

Re: To the 06'ers from the 05'ers
Thanks so much 05'ers! I wish I knew about this site before I started booking some of my vendors. It would have made things so much easier because I had no clue about so many things.I must admit that I was intimidated by the boards at first, just because everyone seems like they know each other for years. I guess that getting married brings everyone together! Thanks again for all the helpful advice.
I was thinking about registering for the WOTY but I don't know anyone else whose going cause I'm fairly new to LIW? How does it work...do alot of FHs go?

Re: To the 06'ers from the 05'ers
Some planning advice...1. Wedding planning should be fun. Don't get too stressed out because you will lose sight of what is really important.
2. Your guests do notice the details, but you don't have to break the bank or have a nervous breakdown over every little thing. They won't miss it if you don't have a slipper basket, ribbon wands, votive place cards. Even though those are all very nice thoughts and beautiful things, only do it if you have time and do it over time. Don't stress yourself out at the last minute to get these things done.
3. Limit your guest list. There were a few guests that I really didn't want to invite, but I did because I didn't want any hard feeling. Well, they said they were coming (and even asked if they could bring another person) and then they didn't show up. So, that was 3 people and $400 that I couldn't get back. I could have invited 3 other people that would have been honored to come but I didn't have room for and that could have been 400 more dollars to spend in Hawaii
4. Do what makes YOU and FH happy. We did not let other people persuade us to do things that we didn't want or discourage us from doing things that we wanted. When everyone was saying 'what do you need that for?' or 'nobody will notice whether or not you have that' I just ignored them and did my own thing. And people did notice them.
I know I had a few more things, but can't think of them right now.
