**UPDATE** Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

Hello ladies! FH and I are setting up our engagement shoot for July and I'm way too far away from my wedding date to be booking a make up artist so... I've heard that you can get your makeup done at Mac or Sephora and for 'free' then you're required to buy $50 worth of product... is this correct? How do you go about it? Make an appointment? Walk right in? And does anyone have any experiences with the Mac or Sephora in the Smithaven or Walt Whitman Malls? Both are equidistant from my house. I never ever wear makeup and if I do, it's only mascara, but I want to look good in these pictures (we're paying enough for them lol).

Thanks!

UPDATE: so I went to the smithaven mall today and did some research lol. Mac (not the one in Macys) was $50 and you keep the mascara they use and that's it. If you want lashes or to buy any other product, they're extra ontop of the $50 makeup fee. At sephora, they told me it was just a flat $50 fee for makeup, and doesn't include any products at all. And the woman who helped me was such a b!tch I wanted to smack her. She snapped at me and clearly couldn't be bothered answering my very simple questions. So finally I went to macys and checked out Bobbi Brown and the lady was so sweet and understanding that I was looking for natural looking makeup for photos. And it's free, and you're required to buy three products in any price point.

So I decided to go with Bobbi Brown since they got me, they were nice, and I'm getting product out of the money I'm spending. So I have an appointment for next Tuesday before we take our engagement pics :)

Hope this helps other ladies looking to do the same thing!

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

If you do Mac in a macys you are not required to purchase 4 items. Other macs do that could run you over $100. But yes make an appointment. I've had great experiences at Roosevelt field and Walt Whitman. Fm me if you have anymore questions. I've had my makeup done a ton.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

I've had my makeup done at Sephora when I was trying to buy some stuff to wear to my FSIL's wedding. You didn't have to buy stuff, but I did buy some. If you're not a usual makeup wearer, I'd suggest going calling a clinique counter at a Macy's, Bloomingdale's etc rather than Mac. Mac tends to be very dramatic and dark makeup, and that might not be what you're looking for. I think Clinique is very good at a beautiful, classic look. I think you have to pay around $50 in product, they'll tell you what it is. Regardless, it's a good deal bc you walk away with makeup that you'll use in the future. I like Nars and Bobbi Brown too for more classic looks, but I'm not sure if they're in that many stores-- some sephoras carry them, others don't.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

If your not a makeup person i agree that sometime mac has a really dramatic look. I personally like Bobbi Brown and currently use her stuff. Ive been to their counter with a friend in the smithhaven mall store and they did her make up and she didnt purchase anything. Not sure if she was being nice or they just dont pressure you. When we went we didnt even need our makeup done for an event or anything just came across the counter shopping. Most places require that $50 thing. Honestly if you just look interested and tell them you want a natural look (not telling them that you are taking picture...regardless of how much makeup they put on im sure you'll look great) they might just do it... if anything just buy masacra if that is something you use.

Sephora you're usually not required to buy anything. The one at Walt Whitman is kind of small, but not usually busy so you might have better luck there. I do agree that MAC can be dramatic, so no matter where you go, make sure you're very specific about what you want and BRING PICTURES! This way there's no questions about the look you're going for.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

At Sephora in Smithhaven you have to buy $50 worth of products. It is hit or miss. The first time I went the girl really listened to me and I loved the way she did it. The second time, it was horrible. The girl wouldn't let me see what she was doing and I looked like a clown. I asked her nicely to fix it but it was already too far gone. I ended up rushing home to re-do my own make up before a wedding. I am going again before my engagement shoot and bringing pics of how the first girl did it. I tried to request her but she no longer works there.

You do need to make an appointment though. They now have an online appointment setter though so it saves you having to try and get through by the phone.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

I went to the mac store at smithaven and te girl that did my makeup did a good job of giving me a natural day time look for our shower. I bought he $50
Worth of stuff and then returned it all like 2 weeks later and it wasn't a big deal. Definitely make an appointment though.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

I wouldn't recommend then if you don't wear a lot of makeup. They cake it on and use a lot of dark eye makeup. You could still use a makeup trial since they're cheap and you'd be spending almost the same amount. You don't have to book after your trial. I don't know where you're located but I get my hair done at Lumara salon in Massapequa and the makeup girl was doing prom makeup yesterday and they all came out great and was $60.

I've actually had MAC done at Macy's. They did up half of my face and then told me that in order to do the other side, I would have to buy products. Maybe it varies by store? I've had good experiences with both MAC and Sephora (mini makeover however). You just have to make sure that you explain to the person doing you're makeup exactly what you want and you should be fine.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

I went to the MAC in the Macy's in Massapequa. They told me that doing a full face of make up is free with any $50 purchase. I intend to go there for my engagement party, and then I'll buy a lipstick and something else.

Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

I've gotten my makeup done at MAC in Macy's in Massapequa for all of the weddings that I've been in. I have always been very happy with how my makeup came out and it lasted all day and has ranged from more subtle/natural makeup to more glamorous. :)

**UPDATE** Having your makeup done at MAC or Sephora?

That sounds awesome! Can't wait to see your pics!

I am thinking about getting my makeup done for my engagement photos and don't know where to go. Does anyone know if Macy's in Hampton Bays does an okay job? Or anywhere in Tanger?! Smithhaven is too far for me. I just want something natural looking!
