Re: Vday florist delivery vent NOW HAVE THE ACTUAL FLORIST INFO FM me for details

No...none what so ever. But we know what it is like to have a bad day and believe me....i know what it is like in that situation as well. I have seen people working in that environment totally lose it with co-workers and with customers. Like I said, it is inexcusable, but it does happen. That's all I am saying.
Just think of it in this way....at your busiest and most stressful time in your life when you have a million things to do and you just want to finish and be done with it all and then having someone throw a wrench in the middle of it. You would be like..'O S***! I don't need this now'. I'm sure that is what happened and the woman probably snapped. In retail, usually when that happens...its the death of a future sale.
Tell FH to use a different florist, but have him cal that one that made the mistake and have him tell them that...see if they offer something to him to make it up.

sorry, then the flower shops need to overstaff themselves in anticipation for holidays....this is their business....figure out how to make it work, and never be rude to a customer EVER.

AMEN!!!

Ok...now I'm not saying that what happened to you was right or that the woman you spoke to was correct in the way that she spoke to you but as someone with experience in the retail floral industry... let me shed some light on the topic...

The busiest week for retail florist is Mother day
the busiest single day is VD
everyone who orders flowers for VD expects to have them delivered on the day with the majority of deliveries expected between the hours of 9-5. NO RETAIL FLORIST would EVER promise anyone a timed delivery on VD. They will say 'we will do the best we can but do not promise that it will be there by 5'.
As far as pricing and paying so much- we'll that is because the wholesale price of roses goes up by 250% or more. WE pay that much more because they pay that much more. Not to say that the mark up on a rose is crazy to begin with.
As far as the attitude- no excuse! But we have to remember that this woman has probably worked from 7 or 8am on Monday till about 11pm -1am and has probably been at that flower shop for 80 or more hours the week of VD.
Also... the amount of deliveries which can be normally anywhere from 15-20 deliveries in a regular retail business day from a busy shop, shoots up to about 200 or more on VD. Most shops have to hire people to drive for the day that are not accustomed to delivering flowers. So the margin of error increases as well unfortunately.

I know it ***** and it is unfortunate that it happened to you, but I just thought that I would fill you girls in on what the horrors of the day brings in a retail flower shop.
My suggestion, tell your FHs to surprise you during an unexpected time with flowers, when they are not so expensive and when the shops are not so crazed. Tell him that the candies (Godiva preferably
) and dinner are fine for the actual day and have him pleasantly surprise you with flowers at another time when you would least expect it. Plus the quality and especially the price will be better at any other time of the year... with the exception of the week of Mother day.
If a retail shop makes a mistake, they will most of the times make good for it. I would just ask to speak with someone else at the shop and try not to speak to the woman who gave you the tude.

Hope you had a great VD and please do not get upset with me for stating this, I just wanted to try and shed some light on why it would happen.

Happy Valentines everyone.

I can understand its the busy holiday, etc. but there was no reason the woman had to go off on me

What ever happened to multiple trucks making deliveries? They jack up prices but dont want to give it up for extra guys?!?

Update: FH is getting a FULL REFUND!!!

The guy at the florist company apologized and said he would put a complaint in with the florist that delivered it.

FH was even telling me make sure you let all the LIW girls know so they can tell their FH/DH not to order from them. I'm like way ahead of you honey.

I'm glad you got a full refund too.

I think the best part was when the driver called me last night at 7:45 to tell me sorry for the delay(4 hours later) you gotta be effing kidding me. I can laugh about it now.

Re: Vday florist delivery vent Update on page 2 FH got full refund

that's horrible-- i'm sorry that happened to you and on v-day of all days!!
i had a similar thing happen to me on mothers day. my sister and i ordered tulips for my mom and they sent a potted plant instead and the delivery came so late?! no one knocked so that i could answer, sign, and tell them it was wrong.... they just left the plant and ran.
to make matters worse my nephew sniffed the plant and had a major allergic reaction to it-- his head got all swollen, he looked like a basketball! i was so annoyed, when i called the florist they said that when they run out of something they find the closest thing to what we asked for to send instead. ???
so i said the closes thing you had to tulips was a potted plant?! i said i thought the purpose of placing the order a week in advance was to 'hold' the tulips or for you to place and order for the tulips knowing that we want them. it's kind of like a reservation...
and the people on the phone were SO rude-- i have a feeling that the same company you dealt with is the one i dealt with (they told me to leave the plant on the porch and they would come and get it, they never even tried to make the situation better--I had to demand a refund)--
i'm thinking it's the same place... fm me and let me know when you get a chance...
so sorry again, hope everything else was nice and i hope your fh gets all his money back!!

Re: Vday florist delivery vent Update on page 2 FH got full refund

First to Soon 2 Be Mrs 2006, I'm sorry that you didn't receive your V-day flowers. It really is too bad. I'm sorry that you had to deal with a rude person, that was not right.

Now, for the part where I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of unhappy responses. Let me begin by saying I have worked in the floral retail business for over 7 years.

To bride Johnsae: You said in your post that florists should over staff themselves in anticipation. There is normally about 3 people working in our shop on a normal day. On Valentines day we brought in 7 people to work the shop.

To Bride JPC 4806: Who suggested to have Multiple drivers. On a normal day we have 1 driver, maybe 2. For Valentines day we brought in 5 men. Still with this, devileries were not completed until about 7:30pm us. Even with each delivery man being assigned different zones such as: business delivery man, local deliverly man, ect.

I'm sorry but a lot of people do not understand how difficult it is to work on high volume days such as Valentines day and Mothers day. How can every woman get there flowers by 1:00pm. It is impossible. Florists Shops do the VERY best they can can do to make everyone happy.

As for prices being jacked up, that is because of the high prices we pay to get from Whole salers at this time. Chain stores such as Supermarkets can sell things for cheaper because they buy in huge quanities for a large amount of stores, and get deals. Indivalual shops do not recieve this. If a florist buys a say a rose for 2 dollars, they charge you say 4 dollars, becuase they need to make profit, to pay store rent, supplies, as well as employees pay ,ect.

I hope that I don't make to many enemies with this post. But please try to be more understanding, not of the rude people, but of the hard efforts we make to give you the very best. And to be fair, after not leaving our shop until 3:30am on the 13th, to complete early moring orders, then to return at 6:00am to only be able to then leave the shop on the Valenitnes at 10:pm. People get alittle rude.

Ladies please be a little more understanding, and not fast to spread around which shops should not be frequented. This is people livelyhoods we are takling about.

To Happy Bride 11-5-06, thank you for being the only other peson to stick up for the hardworkeing florists on this thread.
