Re: Very important PSA - Insuring your ring

wow what a horrible way to treat someone- I really think that you should sue the pants off of them, report them to the better business bureau or burn down their offices- because they totally suck

My FH paid for the ring in cash -- guess I should at least make sure he has a receipt!

Not to scare you, but that's kind of our issue.

It was a big ring (3+ carat round solitaire - pics in my album) and he paid cash. So they are asking lot of questions about why it was paid in cash, WHICH by the way, IS LEGAL TENDER!!!!! Its all so upsetting.

wow that is very scary! my husband paid for my e-ring in cash also... and he does not have a receipt as it was custom made by a family friend!

See if you can get him to write you a receipt.
I thought the appraisal would be enough to prove we owned the ring but they said 'an appraisal does not equal ownership.' They said someone can steal or borrow a piece of jewelry, get it appraised & insured, pay the insurance for a few months, then claim it was lost to collect the $$$.

Re: Very important PSA - Insuring your ring

that is just one of the most horrible stories i've ever heard!! and it worries me to no end because my ring is a family heirloom, so FH didn't have to pay for anything, other than to build up the setting, get it re-sized and pay for the insurance on it. if they ask us to provide receipts, we're screwed. the ring is over 60 yrs old and chances are there never WAS a receipt.

i really, really hope everything works out for you guys though. it's just terrible what they're putting you through!

Re: Very important PSA - Insuring your ring

OMG that is awful what they are doing to you!
I hope that in the end you ask for an apology b/c it just seems sooo insane to have all of that to show them. To have you life turned upside down for this. I hope you find your ring or they replace it

Re: Very important PSA - Insuring your ring

Have you contacted the NYS Attorney General's Office? I would file a complaint and allege harassment. In the meantime, stay strong and do not let them get the best of you.

I hope everything works out for you!

Re: Very important PSA - Insuring your ring

so sad you're going through this....

it's typical. Just think of all the poor people in new orleans, and how after years of diligently paying their insurance, they all get the shaft. Ever since katrina, my eyes have been wide open to the insurance racket. I totally expect if I ever DARE to file a claim, the thugs will come by for a shake-down. your story just confirms my suspicions.....

don't give up the fight, and DEFINITELY call the BBB and file a complaint.
