Walking down the aisle

Re: Walking down the aisle
I'm walking down the aisle with both of my parents. I think it would be really nice to have your mom walk you down. There's no reason why you need a man to walk you down the aisle. It should be whomever you're closest with regardless of gender.

Re: Walking down the aisle
I would give anything to walk down the aisle with my Mom. She is the world to me... Unfortunately she passed away 4 1/2 years ago.You did mention in your post that you've always imagined yourself walking down the aisle alone...then that is what you should do. I think it's completely natural to do that. Do what you feel in your heart...

Re: Walking down the aisle
A lot of people walk down with their mothers now. I chose to walk down with my brother because it was be too much of a crying mess to walk down with my mom so it's something that you have to decide on.

Re: Walking down the aisle
My father just passed away on July 9th. According to my faith, I am supposed to walk with both parents so I would be with my mom regardless. However, being that Dad's passing is so recent, I am not ready to have an empty arm. I asked my brother to stand in for Dad and do a brother/sister dance. My mom isn't ready for a dance yet and I don't blame her or fault her for not doing so. I do wish she would though.

Re: Walking down the aisle
My SIL only walked with her mom since her father wasn't in her life as much as most fathers (he was sitting in the crowd like any other guest).Do what feels right.

Re: Walking down the aisle
A week ago I would have said- walk down with you mom. But then I saw a pictures from a LIW Bride that walked down alone and I loved it. It seemed so perfect- to walk in as a single person and to leave as a couple. Plus she was in the center of the isle and all eyes were on her. I'm glad that my Dad is here to walk me down the isle- I wouldn't have it any other way but I liked the way it looked for that bride.

Re: Walking down the aisle
I don't have a relationship with my father and my mother is deceased. I have 2 brother's. My feeling is that if my mom were alive, she'd be walking with me. Since she's not here physically, I'll be walking alone (a la with her in spirit). But everyone is right, do what you're comfortable with. It's your day!! ~~Kim

Re: Walking down the aisle
My girfriend had just lost her father prior to her wedding. Rather than have her mother walk her down, and although she was very close to her mother, she chose to walk down the aisle alone, with her father in spirit. It was beautiful.

Re: Walking down the aisle
Ultimately, it is your choice. That said, IMHO, you have already made it when you said you grew up imagining yourself walking down the aisle alone, and are now asking the question because some other person suggested walking with your mom.Why second guess what has always been in your heart?

Both parents are alive but I am walking by myself because it make me feel great to walk alone because I have done a lot to get to this moment but I will dance with both parents
