Personally, I would let it go for a while. You still have a year to fight this fight. Maybe you or he will get a huge promotion. Or maybe your taste will change. Who knows what can happen in the next year. All I know is that it's not worth getting worked up over this for the next 12 months.

Worst case is you two compromise - you get the plain band now and he buys you a diamond anniversary band for your 5 year or something.

I agree! Also if you really want something that he doesn't want to splurge for just take the money that he is willing to spend and than add the rest this way everyone is happy! Also we got our bands at whitehall/lunstrum. My plain white gold band with all of the discounts came to $14! I also have a solitare a little different than yours but I just thought it looked so classic. Also they had beautiful diamond bands there as well. I would just go look with some of your girlfriends, and than just get it yourself!

I would let it lie for now. FH and I got our bands at a local jeweler and it is 1/3 carrat and it was only $399. So maybe mention that. But I think you have time to purchase something. We just purchased ours in November and our date is this Feb. So no rush! Don't stress.

Why don't you put money towards it? I am doing this myself because the eternity band I want is 4 carats and FH spent enough as is on the e-ring so I am paying for half of my ring. I don't mind because FH's rings is costing next to nothing because he wants tungsten or titanium. Since we decided that I was putting money towards my ring, I set up a small find and been saving for it. It's a good idea- you get what you want and take whatever your FH is willing to pay for it.

Your FH is the same exact way as mine, he keeps saying how I am just getting a plain band bc he spent too much on the e-ring. I was bummed like you and really want the diamonds ....I know it sounds bridezilla like, but thats what I want.

So I finally said to him, its too bad, I am getting a diamond band and thats that. I don't care if I have to pay for it, its what I really want. Again, I know its sounds mean, but I put my foot down, I have to wear this for the rest of my life. And I know you can always 'upgrade' but who knows where we will be in 10, 20 , 30 years.

that looks just like my e-ring & just like the wedding band that goes with it. & we had a similar conversation about a week ago.

when i said i didn't want the simple band FH wasn't happen. the problem here is that my e-ring is tiffany & FH will only buy the platinum band that matches it & no other. the two diamond bands that they have to go with it are diamond all around. i don't need diamonds all around but FH will only buy one from tiffany. i didn't want to sound ungrateful so i said well maybe as an anniversary gift in a few years you can get me the diamond one.

so maybe you can try that route too.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to let it lay for now. It's not worth getting upset over for a year. FH wants to be as prudent as possible because he could care less about the wedding, all he's ever wanted was a house, and I think he resents the fact that in his mind, the wedding is preventing us from getting a house. He tells me all the time that we shouldn't be getting married in the time frame we are and how we're going to suffer as a result, and it really depresses me.

Maybe when I try on the matching one I'll love it together, I'll just have to see what it looks like in person. All I know is the ones I did try on were waaaaaay too thin for the e-ring, so it looked pretty stupid. I just don't think it's worth pressing with him much more because he gets so upset about these things, and I'd rather just deal with it then have him resent me further.

I would simply say that you have to wear it for the rest of your life and you want something that you love not something is forced on you because it matches. He should understand that.

I'm with you sister. I have a job, I make my own money and I can spend my money. He bought me a beautiful 2.25 ct ering and now I want a 4 ct eternity band, he's a hard working blue collar guy not a millionare. But I want something that I will want to keep forever, not that I feel I have to upgrade. I told him I'll pay for my wedding band and he can pay for his (he is giving me money toward mine anyway ).

In the end who it doesn't matter who pays..we'll both be broke after the whole thing is over and then will have a nice bank account again from our wedding gifts..

I bought my bands at our family jeweler (good old gold)... FH's had diamond chips/white gold and came to $900, mine is also white gold, with five point diamonds half way around and came to around $1250. The diamonds are very good quality though.

i would buy the ring you want ... arent you paying for it together? so if its both your money, he cant tell you no ... you can always give your parents the money and ask them to buy it for you as a 'gift' then he cant say anything!

I was just going to suggest offering to pay for some of it...or even most of it. Ask if the max he wants to spend, then have him spend that amount, and you can complete the balance. FH and I didn't go shopping for our ring yet...but I did with my MOH... I feel in love that I don't think he'll like... b/c he wants to have matching rings as well. So, we shall see how that all works out. Best of luck to ya

First of all, just so you know, the white gold wash wears off of the gold, so pretty soon you may be looking at a yellow-tinged white gold band. Depends on how they are made. It doesn't really matter- you usually can't tell, but when it's up against a platinum ring, you WILL be able to tell.

And there are amazing sales out there, and some diamond bands are NOT that expensive. If FH doesn't want to buy you one, tell him 'okay, well I think I'm worth it, so I'll buy it myself.'

i told mine i want him to buy 2 rings for me and he said no. I figure if i am willing to have kids aka body killer then he has to buy 2 rings. i will find some other goods ways to make him purchase the rings.. ..
