Back to the Contract...I would also include: the attire of the band members (i.e. black tie etc.), what will happen if the band leader is sick and needs to be replaced prior to your wedding (i.e. can they substitute? do they have to tell you?), what instruments and how many pieces the band includes, that the Band will not promote themselves or otherwise advertise their services during your wedding, that they will stick to your 'play and do not play list' etc etc.

Hi Annie my husband did the contract at oheka . I'll ask him.. Thats a good question i would ask the bandleader what happens in that situation, i'm sure it doesnt happen ,but like you said god forbid someone gets sick of what if a member quits the band you never know I would ask the bandleader the question your asking .I'm sure they have some kind of back up plan or another member in the band that could lead the band or something . my friend had creations at her october 6, 2002 wedding and did not recognize half the band. when we viewed the videotape last week, she pointed it out to us. it does not matter if the names are on the contract. franklin wayne is a load of c***! at every band showcase he says 'the band you see is the band you get!' obviously that does not hold true for this band!

I am sorry this happened to someone you knew too. I also know how it feels to spend your time choosing a band and hard earned money paying for one for your special day and seeing something totally different. It was a very dishonest way of doing business.

Cindy- my favorite part of your experience was when the band leader (not lead singer) spoke with you and you asked to hear the new lead singer and he said 'Are you kidding me? Why?' I think that really sums up the way you were treated!

I will say that when my band, Milestone, had a singer leave the band my band leader, Dotty, called me and her other brides and she arranged for a private showcase withing 3 weeks so we could hear the new singer- and he wasn't even the lead singer. The band was even better with the new guy. But she gave us all the chance to decide for ourselves.

Yes, I remember that Michele. Also, no matter what agency a band is hired through, it is still irresponsible for members of that band to just decide not to come because they have something better to do and to send a fill in. Thats my opinion.

This is the story behind wedding bands. When you book a band you are more often than not contracting a band 'leader'. This leader than hires the other people in the band. The New York/Long Island band scene is not huge. Although it might appear that you have or will have 'fill ins' it is 99% possible that those fill-ins play in the band quite often. My mother is a musician- she does not play with the same band every night but she 99.9% is playing with people she has played with before. The people that are contracted into the band depends upon the function, # of musicians needed, the type of music requested, etc.. if you like a band, but want more R&B, you might see a different guitar player becuase it is that guitar player that knows more R&B music... it's not a bad thing.

I used Gerard Carelli Orchestra. They are a great band.. not a true 'wedding' band- but used for a variety of functions.. corporate, wedding, society, etc.

Another thing is sometimes the musicians will be 'hired' for a gig- they'll hold the date.. They'll make say, $400 for the night. But then they get a call for another job, same night, for $1,000- what would you do? As crappy as it sounds, I know what I would do... especially in this economy, etc.
