so the church isn't charging u 500 the reception hall is right? catholic priests dont' marry outside of the church.

it seems that some people are paying alot more, are you all having a mass or just a ceremony? i'm just having a short ceremony.

As you can see I am not getting married in a church but temples also charge a site fee (I would assume for non-members.) This is for the use of the Rabbi as well as the sanctuary. Many LI temples have catering facilities and Jewish brides will more often than not, choose a particular temple for their weddings based on the catering facilities rather than the sanctuary where the ceremony is to take place as it is often highly decorated. Since the cocktail hour and receptions are immediately following the ceremony, many of the flowers are then transported from the ceremony to the reception while guests are in the cocktail hour. It goes virtually unnoticed.

My site fee is $600.

Mine is $400. We feel that the church is the most important part of the day so we're happy to pay it.

$40 for alter servers

Total= $800

$800 it includes flowers and pre-cana. (a lot more than I wanted, but it's my alma mater)

i agree church donation is a little steep- but church's run on donations - not just from weddings - but from weekly parishoners, funeral services, mass serbivces, etc.

nothing is ever free - my church is stunningly beautiful - it is probably going to cost me about $1000 when its all over - but I am willing to pay for it to get married in such a nice church. And not to mention I was brought up to believe there is some sanctity in getting married in a church. If they didn't collect donations from everyone - odds are we would all be getting married in a dumpy place that is not upkept - not a beautiful house of worship.

how do you think i feel?? i attend mass weekly - donate weekly - and was involved in numerous church activities - and still have to pay the same donation as everyone else - doesn't that s*ck for me??

Ok. We want to get married at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Merrick. They are asking for $900!! to use the church and then another $250 to have a person there for the rehearsal and cleanup afterward. Does this seem about right to you??? Are these 'donations' tax deductible?

Just another point of view here - I'm wondering why anyone would balk at paying a fee to the church, where your actual marriage ceremony and joining is taking place but then turn around and pay tens of thousands of dollars to catering halls. The ceremony itself is the most important part of the day and without that there would be nothing to celebrate. Yet we complain about paying a fee to the church? I don't get it. JMO.

I think it's the same for me! But then don't forget you have to tip the priest and the alterboys/ altergirls.
