is anyone tipping with bottles of wine or godiva chocolate? we were only going to tip the maitre d with cash and then i thought when we picked up the pictures, picked up the dress, when the flowers were dropped off at my house etc, we would tip with wine or choc?

Now THERE is a GOOD idea!!!! I may do something like that for my florist. I think she's earned something nice, but I am completely out of cash!

I think these tipping threads are so annoying
If you want to tip TIP, if you dont DONT.
I'm tipping youre not - what is the difference.
Throwing the bartenders, waitstaff, valets & coat checks some xtra cash at the begining of the night can only make your wedding better.
If your photo guy is great - give him a tip. If he sucks then don't.
What surprises me is that people are so surprised that they are expected to tip. I would think this is something that should be incorperated into budget. If $ is tight and you cant afford it - cut something like the cheap favors that people are just going to trash anyway. People arent going to remember the xmas ornament or picture frame you gave them at your wedding, but they are going to remember that your band sucked because they were too tired to play cause you didnt want to feed them or that your bartender had a line out the door cause you complained about them having a tip cup, but you dont want to tip em. JMO

I just don't see why we are paying so much just to have to tip on top of it. like the photographer - many of us are paying/will pay upwards of $4000 for the photographer. Now we are supposed to 'tip' him/her an extra hundred dollars for deigning to perform the service that we are paying so much for? That's insane! Same with the videographer. Same with the waitstaff/bartender/coatcheck tips which are supposedly included in the 18% gratuity they add on to the reception. If the hall doesn't give that money out to the staff, it isn't MY problem.
