Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

I chose my own engagement ring and it is less then a carat. Big jewels are not for everyone. Personally I would rather spend the $$$$ on a house. A few close family members had something to say about my choice, and even my FH started worrying that it was not big enough. I started to doubt myself but when you think about it, what's really important what other people think or your own happiness? I am happy with my choice and I hope that you will be too.

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

That is so rude !!! Who cares how big your ring is as long as you are happy with it and more importantly, that you are happy with the person that gave it to you. People are so nasty when it comes to engagement rings. I have what most people consider to be a big ring, but I did not pick it out and I would be just as happy with any ring, any size. These people obviously have nothing better to do than talk about ring size. And who is this a$$ of a jeweler that announced your incorrect carat size? Please do not pay attention to these people at all. They obviously need better things in their life.

You are obviously better than that !!!

ETA: nessa, I love your comment about the love factor and the rings. That is priceless !!!

You know the saying size doesnt matter? Well it goes for many things in life and this is one of them.. As long as you are happy then thats all that should matter. Ignore all of these jerks that are putting you down THEIR rings are probably YELLOW in color anyway. and not nearly as beautiful as yours

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

Wear you ring with PRIDE!!!
It is not the size of the ring that is important..it is the love which it was given with!!
Bigger diamond does not mean more love!!

And the next time someone has a comment you tell them lets try sticking it up their A*# and see how small it feels

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

for some reason they are trying to get a reaction from you..I wouldn't satisfy them..I say continue to vent here and when they say something stupid just smile and walk away.

I've heard the dumbest, most insensitive comments from too many people in the year I've been engaged-I've reacted in different ways but I notice when I confront them it's always 'that's not what I meant'...whatever

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

Flame you? God no. I don't think you're being immature at all. If I was you I would be as upset as you are. FH's family has NO RIGHT to comment on the size of the diamond at all and THEY are the immature ones to say stuff like that to you. That is so completely rude of them to do that.

I think they are doing that to make either your or your FH feel inadequate. Like the size of your ring = how much he loves you. That's BS and it amazes me that people actually feel that way. Nevertheless, I don't think it is immature to address their comments at all. As long as you do it maturely then I see no problem telling anyone in his family that you do not mind the size of the ring at all, it's just fine, thank you but you DO mind the rude comments about how _______'s ring is bigger as if to say yours is inadequate. Maybe they think you will say 'omg my ring is too small! I should yell at FH that he should get me a bigger ring because that would me he loves me more'. Yet if you address the issues as 'you are making yourself look very petty by judgeing the size of my ring' then they might realize how moronic their comments are and stop.

I hope that helps. And feel better, if you like your ring then that is all that matters

Well, my FH's cousin has a somewhat obnoxious wife. Do you know what she says to me at our engagement party?
'Oh, I like your ring....it's so plain and simple.'
A subtle put-down for sure!
I didn't let it bother me considering the source, and being that the ring is exactly what I wanted.

Later that same night.......she says to me......have fun planning your wedding. It goes by so fast, and then the only thing to look forward to is having children.

I was thinking in my head, 'yeah, get a life. That may be all you have to look forward to, but I have TONS of other stuff to look forward to!'

Holy cow I know someone EXACTLY like your fh's cousins's wife!!!

I would respond to her little digs. But not rudely, but don't just take it either because in her little mind, that means it's OK to say that stuff to you. I would have said what you thought in your head outloud to her. Sometimes when you give a snappy retort the person is so shocked you stood up to her that they stop!! But I would not make it a mud slinging fest.

Good luck, she sounds like a winner for sure!

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

How rude!!!! I had a friend who after I got engaged came over to congratulate me... and when we were alone she had the nerve to say ' wow I thought it would be bigger then that... he has money!! ' I was so disgusted and still am. I told her I rather have the wedding of my dreams and a nice roof over my head then a bigger diamond on my finger. And its not even small!!!!
Some people are materialistic idiots... wait and see how fast they get divorced if thats all she is concerened about.
I just wanted to add my FMIL was proposed to with a very small but very beautiful ring.... but can I tell you her DH worked like crazy to save and save for that ring... and she loved it... Now they own a bunch of houses and she has money coming out of her butt... SHE STILL loves that ring and even though she can afford to put a JLO size ring on her finger.. she dosent want it... it her thats not important.. that ring has gotten her through 30 years of a wonderful loving marriage and thats all she ever wanted.

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

I've been where you are but on the opposite side. ZBashed for being big.
My ring is pretty sizeable and my fh cousin' wife is smaller so to make me feel 'bad' she would say wow, you have such a nice ring. I didnt want a big one, we rather have a house.
Well, truth be told yes, they have a house and a nice car but she also knows she does not have a husband who is all her own so she attacks me.

So the moral to the story is........its not the size of the ring but the strength of you and FH's love

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

Some people can be very rude. I know that it bothers you but just try to ignore the rude comments. It really doesn't matter how big the ring is or how much it costs. What's important is the commitment and love that the ring stands for.

I know how you feel, and to be honest I love my ring, but of everyone i know it is def. the smallest. someone (remain nameless) recently made a comment comparing mine to someone elses something about it being understated, so i made a nasty comment in return, I said 'well I guess brian doesnt love me as much as XXX loves XXX then right?' Boy that shut her up quick at the end of the night she apologized and realized that that was wrong of her to say. I thought it as pretty funny because a Big expensive ring meas nothing about love but some people correlate the 2 how obnoxious

Vanessa....I hear ya!! Same here with me!! You and I have the same size ring! I don't know why everyone else compares e-rings!!

DO NOT FEEL BAD! Sometimes it does happen to me though, I will see a sparkling ring and think, wow mine doesnt sparkle like that, then I remeber that I love my ring regardless. those people are rude to talk like that in front of you

Re: Ladies, make me feel better, but PLEASE no flames...

I don't think it's immature of you to be upset over this. FI's family is straight out being rude, materialistic and just plain pathetic. You love your ring and that is all that matters. Shame on them placing more importance on the size of a diamond than on person's feelings. You can remind them that while they focus on size your all about quality. Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.
