Anyone know of the Bridal Building in NYC?

My FMIL wants us to visit the Bridal Building on 38th & Broadway. Has anyone ever been there? Any feedback would be great!

Thanks!

My friend went there and she got her invitations there. & than they had some sort of raffle & she won all her flowers for the day.
You really don't have anything to loose. It can be a nice day out.

Re: Anyone know of the Bridal Building in NYC?

My mom got a dress there for my brother's wedding. It's not as nice as going to a store, but each showroom is different. She didn't wind up wearing that dress b/c she found something else. I'm going there to look for a veil in a couple of weeks.

Re: Anyone know of the Bridal Building in NYC?

I know some people who have gotten great dresses there, at a great price.

Here are some c&p's for you that I have saved.

Bridal Building
Broadway between 37th and 38th Streets
This is a building filled with wholesalers who work in the bridal industry, who open their doors to customers on weekends. It looks like - and is - an office building. You walk in and go to the elevators (tell the people who want you to fill out a form in the lobby that you've filled it out already - all you'll get is junk mail). There's a sign by the elevators that tells you what floors have open offices that day. Some floors will have one open office, some will have several. Most are small rooms with lots of dresses and small, curtained-off changing areas, although others have more room. This may not be the best place to start looking, since each shop usually carries a very specific type of dress, and it can be hard to push through the crowded racks of dresses to see what's there. Most of the dresses here seemed to be of the 'poofy, white, beaded' variety, but there are also some lovely, simple dresses. (I liked several at Timeless Bridal.) But you also can find places where the person you're meeting with makes the dresses herself, or will customize the dress for you. And there's also lots of veils and headpieces as well. I didn't have the best experience there - I found it crowded, and I found a lot of the shop owners to be pushy and rude - but it all depends on who's open that day, and it's worth a try, especially if you're going to RK Bridal, since it's just a couple of blocks away.

And another:
I think I may be the only one here who bought my dress in the bridal bldg. I wouldn't register on their webpage. It's not necessary and will probably only result in wedding related junk mail. Here's briefly what I know. Most vendors in the bldg are only open to the public on Saturday mornings. I believe most only do wholesale the rest of the week. And most close by 2pm. No appts are necessary. I literally wandered in there on my way to RK Bridal after seeing a sign outside. That day there were supposedly three floors open. The next week I went, the same floors were open again. So I don't know what that's all about. I found what I liked on the 6th floor at a place called Stuart Fashions.

All vendors I went into seemed willing to negotiate. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT NAMING YOUR PRICE! ONCE I DID THAT WAS 'COINCIDENTALLY' THE COST OF EACH DRESS I ASKED ABOUT. (Note, Stuart's was one of the few that had it's prices marked on the dresses - then the negotiations begin.)

I think the bldg is a great place to go - esp. if you don't have a car and are just starting out - b/c there are a lot of 'stores' to go to and see what's on the market. Vendors in there also sell BM dress and MOB dresses.
In general, my best advice would be to go where there is a huge selection first rather than a boutique. That way you can pile through a lot and see what works for you. Hence, to start, I'd recommend the bridal bldg, RK Bridal, David's Bridal, and Macy's.

Re: Anyone know of the Bridal Building in NYC?

I agree with some of the other posts that the bridal building is a little sketchy- BUT despite all of that, I found a beautiful headpeice in a little showroom there. The woman handmakes all of her products, and she made me a Svoravski crystal and pearl headpeice with ivory pearls to match my gown. It was relatively inexpensive in comparison to other places I looked and it was exactly what I wanted. I think its worth the trip to look around- you never know what you'll find!
