Honeymoon: Greece or Hawaii?
I know there's a honeymoon board, but this one gets more traffic. We are so torn between Greece and Hawaii for our honeymoon. We would be leaving the first week of May. We definitely want it to be warm enough for the beach. Hawaii for sure will be. Will Greece be warm enough?Neither of us have been to either place. What Greek islands/hotels would you suggest? We're thinking Crete, Santorini, Mykonos...?
What Hawaiian islands/hotels would you suggest?
We are working with a travel but I am looking for unbiased opinions.
Thanks!!

Honeymoon: Greece or Hawaii?
I went to Hawaii in August and there are no words to describe how beautiful it was! If you're leaning towards Greece, I would make sure everything is ok before you book... one of my best friends goes there every year to visit family and when she came home from her trip in September she said she has never seen such devastation or felt so unsafe on a vacation and she is a big traveler. I'm not sure if that state of political unrest goes for all of Greece or if it is still even going on, but I would hate to see you pay for your honeymoon and not know what you're going into!Good luck!!!

**We stayed at the Hyatt on both Maui and Kauai and they were unbelievable! FM me if you have any questions!

Re: Honeymoon: Greece or Hawaii?
Been to both and loved them both. In May, I think Hawaii will be warmer. We had our honeymoon on the big island of Hawaii and Kauai. Mykonos is my favorite island of those you mentioned in Greece. The advantage of Hawaii is you will not have to deal with the Euro and exchange rates.

Re: Honeymoon: Greece or Hawaii?
Hawaii is one of my favorite places on earth. You can't go wrong. I have never been to Greece and in recent years my parents have been strongly adament about not going on vacation there because of all the problems. My boss went to Greece with her family over the summer and said that although the islands are better than the mainland, it still was not the best place to be and wasn't all that safe.I'd say if you go to Greece, definetely avoid the mainland, especially Athens. If you go to the islands, still be careful. Personally, I wouldnt want to worry about my safety on my honeymooon, so I'd chose Hawaii.

Re: Honeymoon: Greece or Hawaii?
I went to Greece 3 years ago, in March, around the time that all the rioting started. We spent most our time in Athens, and only a day on a smaller island which was not mentioned on your list. Whether was pretty cool out (t-shirt weather), I think it was the high 60s. I'm not sure what exactly it would be like in May, but I would anticipate that it would still be a little cold for the beach. Despite the rioting we didn't have much trouble, although a lot of the police officers around could tell we were tourists and kept warning us about thieves. Had no problems, but just something to think about. I would suspect the islands would be a little safer though.I also have been to Hawaii- spent time in Kauai, Maui and Oahu, and took a day trip to Lanai. It was great, relaxing and in my mind, a great honeymoon spot. I'm not sure I would say the same thing about Greece honestly. I guess it depends what you're going for. I think the weather in May in Hawaii would be a lot more conducive to a beach vacation if that makes any difference.
Good luck and happy planning!
