Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

I looove desserts but is the Viennese hour worth the cost for brides who have done it at Jericho Terrace? If I have say 175 guests (not sure final headcount yet), $15 per person with 18% gratuity is over $3,000. I know it's usually done after cake cutting at the end, and then a lot of people might have already left too. I have heard some halls allow a lower anticipated number of people for Viennese hour, but JT doesn't allow it.

They suggest that I move up cake cutting to shortly after dinner, and then Viennese hour shortly after that so that guests are still primarily there.

I know it's a personal choice as to whether it's 'worth it' but it would help to get feedback from JT brides who have done it as to your thoughts on worth/value. Wedding extras tend to add up, as I'm sure you guys know all too well!!

Thanks!

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

I personally having had my reception yet at JT and not currently booked for VH but I hear from every past JT bride that it is soooooo amazing- its just the best ever! I wish I could afford it ... if its in your budget, I think its worth it but obviously price is a little bit of a concern for you so maybe consider just a choolate fountain with the desserts which are included or just the plated pastries on the tables- Im considering both of these options.

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

I have been to a wedding with a VH at JT. It was excellent. Another of my fav VHs is Chateau Briand.

VH is one of my favorite parts of a wedding so it was a must for me but honestly it is not necessary and a corner you can cut if you need to.

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

are they giving you another dessert in addition to the cake? cause at our hall, we are getting the cake and another dessert for everyone so as much as i love desserts, we felt that the VH was a little too much... also think about where the VH would be set up... would it be on your dance floor so then ppl can't dance?

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

My sister got married at JT and the VH was fantastic! However, its really not worth the money. Everyone was soooo full that they barely even touched the displays and that was with some of the guests taking dessert to go.

If it was cheaper, I would say do it - but to spend $3K+ is silly because so much gets wasted.

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

Does it add an extra hour or take up one of the existing 4 hours?

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

we added it - our guests left AFTER the VH - i dont think anyone left before it started....i purposely added the VH to our menu's so that our guests knew there was more than just cake and coffee....not sure if that had anything to do with people staying for it or not.....

before they finished clearing the tables some people started saying goodbye to us. we did VH at 11 for about 45 minutes - by 12:00 the dancefloor was clear of the tables and there was only 30 minutes left of the reception which people were leaving and some people were still dancing to the end....

our reception was 8:00 to 12:30 am so 4 1/2 hours with 45 minutes dedicated to the VH....

our CH was extended - we did 1.5 hours for that

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

I loved our VH at JT, they even allowed me to have it in the CH room to do a whole separate room for the VH, and made it kind of like a lounge atmosphere. Nobody really left at that point. ALSO we did not serve cake before the VH. We did a cake cutting in front of everyone but then they took our cake into the VH room and served it at VH, they had a table just with the cake and cut pieces for people who wanted.

Now i'll say that yes its great BUT if you dont think the cost is worth it then don't do it. Don't do something you might regret, if you're iffy about it then i would take the time and think about it. INFACT WAIT that is my advice after having a wedding. You can add VH up to 2 weeks before your wedding HOWEVER, if you add VH but try to take it off later on you can't. You are better off waiting until closer to your wedding to see how your finances are, this way if you have enough you'll do it without any regrets.

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

Thank you! I really appreciate everyone's opinions. Can someone comment about whether it adds an extra hour or if it eats into one of the existing reception hours?

Thanks again.

Any pics of the VH?

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

For those who didn't add an hour, did you feel rushy and there was not much time for dancing?

What was your 'timeline' for your 4 hours if you also need a bouquot toss and garter toss?

Thanks!

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

our reception was 8-12:30 with the VH for 45 mins of that time - I think it was def long enough - we did dancing right from the start then dancing through salad i think - then stop for dinner - then dancing again - then cake cutting (we didnt do a big cake cutting, just off the side and then VH immediately following) then dancing again

IMHO if you can afford it, the VH is always worth it anywhere!

Re: Jericho Terrace Viennese hour - worth it?

I like the VH mostly because it extends your wedding another hour. Besides who doesn't love something sweet at the end of the night?? One final indulgence =-) Maybe you can cut from somewhere else???
