Lenox vs. Mikasa UPDATE

Or any other brands for that matter...
Any opinions. I've always been told Lenox Lenox Lenox but I dont want $1500 china...Help...

OK- so I decided to go check out the Mikasa outlet at Tanger in Riverhead and I got a 7 piece 12 person setting plus the s&p shakers, sugar, creamer, veggie dish and platter for $425!!!!! A 92-piece set was a special for $499 then I got the coupon book from the mall office for another 15% off. I am sooo happy, I dont have to worry know about getting some or all of it and if it's going to bediscontinued cuz I got it! Its fine china not bone china so that's why I guess its cheaper. It is...
CAMEO PLATINUM...YAY!

Thanks for all your input!

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

I think it depends on the pattern you like. Most of the china brands make all different types of china in differnt price ranges, it's just up to you to find one that fits your style. I wouldn't get Lenox just to have the brand name!!!

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

There are many brands out there more 'exclusive' than Lenox....imo, Lenox is not all that.

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

Mikasa has 'copies' of MANY of the Lenox fine china patterns.

I have to say, 99% of the people I know who registered for Mikasa fine china received ALL of it at their showers.

For the people who registered for Lenox, they've only received 4 or 5 5 piece place settings with no serving pieces.

I don't count cause my mom and MIL bought all of mine 1 year before the wedding

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

We have Lenox Opal Innocence and the price wasn't that crazy. If oyu go with Lenox register at Bed Bath abd Beyond, Macy's is more expensive.

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

I would make a decison based on what I like. Mine is Tribeca by Lenox and I picked it because I liked it not for the name. It actually is pretty cheap- only $90 a place setting.

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

Thanks girls, I said Lenox because they have some thing where if you break a plate in the first year they replace it and some otherstuff like that not just because of the name 'Lenox'

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

I was at my Aunt's house on New Years Day and she has a Lenox set. It's very nice, but she tells me stories of how guests have come over and accidentally broke a plate. It would ruin my day!!! I don't know about anyone else but it would make me sick if someone broke $100 plate. I'm def thinking twice about the fine china thing!!

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

I know I know, plus the fact that things get discontinued and you cant even replace them, but I am such an entertainer and cook that I know I will love having nice china but I am thinking the Mikasa Cameo Platinum. Only $30 a setting at BBB and looks nice. Going to see it in person today....

There is a place called Replacements Ltd where you can get replacement pieces for most China patterns, I get mail from them all the time since I've bought every day and fine China for friends. My FMIL has used them to replace some of her Wedgewood Plates that were discontinued years ago.

I had my heart set on Lenox as well but the china I picked out is made by Nortitake and it is absolutely beautiful.

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

I received all of my Mikasa place settings and all of the serving pieces from my MIL. The reason I picked the Mikasa was because of the design it had nothing to do w/ the price. I had also heard that the Lenox designs w/ the pearls on it, sometimes the pearls pop off.

Re: Lenox vs. Mikasa

Again, I would reiterate, picking a pattern you love is what is most important. I THINK (correct me if I'm wrong) but Lenox has a 'no discontinue' policy. Ie, even if they THEORETICALLY discontinue a pattern in the stores, they still keep enough stock to replace missing/broken items. And yes, Replacements, Inc (which is only about 20 minutes from me in NC) keeps stock on HUNDREDS of patterns. But even if you break a plate, you can buy most on open stock for about $30--it wouldn't be $100 each time you break something (unless you chose a super expensive pattern.)

HTHs! BTW, I chose a Wedgewood Pattern.
