Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
I grew up in West Babylon. I will just say that one of my closest friends moved out of the North Babylon school district because she was worried about it but I don't want to offend anyone so if you have add't questions please FM me.West Babylon, IMO, is an okay school district. It isn't the top and it isn't the bottom. It is a regular, average school district.
Babylon Village has a good district.
You can check out the stats on Newsday's site.

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
I grew up in N.Babylon and unfortunately that school district has taken a big turn for the worse over the years. But I hear they are making great strides to turn it around again. Babylon is a good school district but if you are in the village you have an extra tax hit.

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
I, like Fran, grew up in North Babylon also. When I went to high school...many moons ago...it wasnt bad...just the occational race riot!!
I heard it took a downturn but is now on an upturn!!Babylon is definatly a good area, but the taxes will kill ya!!
Good Luck!

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
I grew up in West Babylon, and actually, it's a very good school district. The high school offers a lot of AP classes and there's a great student exchange program. I had some wonderful teachers who I will never forget.I'm only 25 and I think Michele is a few years older than me so we could both be right. Perhaps it changed over the years. But I'd move back there in a second. Can't afford it right now.

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
Hi. My DH and I just bought a house in the 'Poet Section' of North Babylon. Which is considered the best neighborhood in North Babylon. We are thrilled with our neighborhood. We had heard that North Babylon's high school is a bit iffy, but the location for us, we just couldn't beat! We are one block away from being in West Islip. So our block is the border line between North Babylon and West Islip. The elementary schools in North Babylon we have heard from quite a few friends with kids in them is phenominal. We have a great block of lovely neighbors. Elementary/middle schools were our primary concern when looking for house. In 20 years if the HS is still shady, we can move, private school, etc.etc. We just made sure it was a low crime neighborhood, which it is, excellent elementary schools and middle schools. We were sold! Yes, there are some areas of North Babylon more North of the Southern State that SOME say are a little iffy. But everytown we looked at had its good and bad areas, bordered this town and that. Ok, I am done. But too sum up, I love where I live! :) And I can't wait to have a baby and take advantage of all North Babylon has to offer.!

This is an excellent point
You constantly hear about school district, school district when looking at real estate. School Districts change over time.

My FMIL teaches in NB, its a horrible district (so she says). Most areas have a higher crime rate then average. It could just be the parents not parenting- she talks about that a lot too.

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
I live in North Babylon...North of the Southern State, and I really like it...The elementary schools are great, but I have heard some bad things about the high school. I have also heard that things are definately changing...Many houses around my neighborhood are up for sale, so I think a lot of the older people in the neighborhood are moving out and younger people are moving in...I think many people are moving to Suffolk from Nassau because the prices are a little cheaper here...

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
i'm a graduate of W. Babylon - class of 91. i loved it when i was there - i was very happy with the education that i received - lots of AP classes so college wasn't as much of a shock. my goddaughter is 17 and a Junior in the HS - i think things may have taken a slight turn for the worse, but nothing out of the ordinary - just changing with the times. we now live in babylon village and we hope to stay here forever!!!! of the three - i would put the village first, then W Babylon then N Babylon.

Re: west babylon vs. north babylon vs. bablyon village
My best friend went to West Babylon Schools and she loved them, her sister is still in school and the schools are still good, she has had no problem in it at all. I think every school has its goods and its bads. I great up in West Islip which is suppose to be one of the best schools, and their are a tun of drug and fighting problems in the school. So just because the school is good academicaly dose not mean it is the best school. My little brother still goes there and everyday he comes home talking about how this one and that one got beat up and this one is doing coke and stuff like that. So like I said every school has its goods and its bads.Bridget
