~*~*~OCTOBERPRINCESS 2006~October 28, 2006~Autumn/Masquerade Theme~ TONS OF PICS! Leonards of Great Neck, Patken, Flower Michele, Cake Altier, Wedding Plaza and More!!!
Danielle & Joseph’s ^v^ October 28th 2006 Autumn/Masquerade Themed Wedding ^v^The day went as smoothly as I could have ever imagined. I was worried about being very nervous (usually I am) but somehow I managed to stay really… really calm. I remembered reading many posts from past brides to “not sweat the small stuff.” I took those words as an oath. In doing so, I took everything in and really enjoyed myself the whole day. There were a few mishaps here and there, but nothing that could or would ruin my day.

It was a wonderful surreal experience that was one of the best days of our lives.
Long Island Weddings- A+
It has been said before, but thank you Ron & Liz for this wonderful insightful website!! And to all of you lovely ladies who have helped and guided me into making the right choices, thank you for all of your knowledge and humor. If it were not for this sight I would have
never known about many of the great vendors we had chosen.
Weather: (rainy/sunny/windy)
The morning of the wedding was typical Halloween-ish weather. The day started off stormy and VERY windy! The wind and rain knocked off tree limbs and there were garbage pails all over the street. On our way to get my hair done, my cousin said that since I love Halloween so much the weather was perfect. Luckily, the weather went from dark and stormy to sunny later in the day. I did not care how the weather was I was getting married rain or shine.
Church:
St. Luke Roman Catholic Church: Whitestone, NY
We decided to have just a ceremony. We were married by Monsignor Tosi, it was a beautiful ceremony and nicely done.
Ceremony Music:
Provided by St. Luke Church
To tell you the truth I was oblivious to the music while I was up at the altar. It sounded good from what I remember.

Reception:
Leonard’s of Great Neck: Great Neck, NY: A
Maurizio, Ian
Before and after wedding: A

Leonard’s was the first and last place we saw. We had been there before, so we knew we liked it there. It was also very close to our homes and family so it was a perfect location. The whole process was easy, we sat down with Maurizio to set the date and go over package selections. He was very pleasant to deal with, if we had any questions he answered them. We did a rough draft of the courses, etc. that would be served. As time went on, we dealt with Ian, who was also very pleasant to work with. We decided to add on some extras during the cocktail hour such as: (engraved napkins, the caviar station, shrimp cocktail station, passed hor'dourves, mixed tropical drinks and for the dessert we added a scoop of ice ice-cream). We decided not to do the viennse hour so we also added the Parisian dessert platter (chocolate covered strawberries, Italian pastries and cannolis) along with the wedding cake (provided by The Cake Atelier).
My husband and I had a few requests, in which Leonard’s was happy to oblige. Since I LOVE Halloween, I had asked if the ice sculpture during the cocktail hour could be carved into a pumpkin (they made a cute jack-o-lantern). We were also very pleasantly surprised that we were allowed to bring outside beverages, my hubby LOVES New Castle beer so we added that to the bar and we were also able to bring our own table candles and holders.

Wedding Cake: The Cake Atelier: New York, NY: A+

Ok, so we all know the situation with the mystery of the Leonard’s wedding cake, not that it is bad, it is just not what we wanted for our “autumn themed” wedding. Although it was in our contract, we decided to go with an outside vendor for our cake.
My husband and I were at Fortunoff one night adding items to our registry, when we heard an announcement that they were having a “Girls Night Out”. We came across a table with cake samples, from The Cake Atelier, and the cake was amazing! My hubby and I went around about 4 times to get more cake samples.
We met with Ruth a few months later and showed her a photo of the cake we wanted.
We did have to pay extra money $$$$, but it was worth it for us in the end. When we walked into the reception for the first time and saw the cake our first thought was “The cake is BEAUTIFUL!!” It was exactly like the photo we gave them, and the taste of the cake was amazing, it was a pound cake, with white chocolate butter-cream and white chocolate shavings covered in fondant (which did not taste too bad). I just wish we were able to eat more of it.

Hair:
Intersession Salon: Whitestone, NY: A+
Sandra is my regular hair stylist, so I knew that she was the only one individual that I wanted to do my hair on the day of my wedding. I did go 3 times for a hair trial, since I was undecided on whether or not I wanted an up-do, or something more in the lines of a half-up loose curled look. Last minute I opted for a loose low flowing ponytail with curls. It also made me feel less nervous that the whole staff at the salon where dressed up in Halloween costumes, it was great!
Make up:
Intersession Salon: Whitestone, NY: A+
Lisa did a beautiful job with my makeup. She made me feel so comfortable. I went a few times for a trial. The first trial I liked the makeup, but I felt that it was not me. The second time around, Lisa did it perfectly. She also suggested that I use MAC eyelashes; they were amazing and so comfortable! I love the extra thickness and length that they added to my eyes. I barely felt them on my eyes, I highly recommend them.

Flowers:
Flower Michele (John): A/A-
It was a pleasure to work with John. He was very professional, had good prices, and listened to exactly what we wanted. My hubby and I wanted a rustic type urn that our guests can take home and use after the wedding. John was very knowledgeable and worked with us on what we wanted.
The flowers were beautiful, BUT there was one problem, the order that was delivered to my house was my original plan. A week before the wedding, I had changed my flowers and had canceled one of the BMs bouquets (due to an illness). I had also added one more centerpiece to our contract. On the day of the wedding, Matt was our delivery person. He was on time and so very sweet and polite. My mother had noticed that there was an extra BM bouquet, so I put it all together and asked if they had 12 centerpieces, they did not, so Matt called right away and fixed the problem. They delivered another centerpiece with no problem at all. Although my bouquet was not the colors that I had changed it to, they were still very beautiful and I did not get all crazy. I just went with the flow, I was just happy that they were all pretty and they came in on time and not all dead! Every one of the bouquets and corsages were labeled accordingly and the transaction went pretty smoothly in spite of the few problems. Now that I look at the sample centerpiece and the actual day of, I noticed that the flowers on the day of were not as full as the sample centerpiece. I also noticed that the rose petals that were supposed to be scattered around the bottom of the centerpiece were not there. Although there were a few problems, I had a very good experience with Flower Michele, and I would recommend them.

Limos:

We first met with Manny, who was very nice. We were able to actually see and sit in all of the various types and styles of limos that they had to offer. We had a lot of fun. With so many to choose from we went with a classic 1929 Rolls Royce, we fell in love! All of the limos were very clean and stocked. All of the drivers we had were professional, helpful and very nice. They arrived on time and it was a pleasure working with them on all separate occasions. In retrospect I realized that we did not get everything that was in our contract, such as, the red carpet, sign and balloons).
For our honeymoon we requested a limo to drive us to our destination. We had Frank, he was a doll! I would highly recommend Royalty limos LTD.
Photography:
Patken Photography (Doug): Day of: A+
Album and Video: TBD
www.patkenphotographer.com
We went to see the Patken studio out in Lindenhurst. We loved their style of photography and video. Previously we had gone to another photographer in which we were not too keen on. Once we saw Doug’s work we booked him. He is a bit more money since he is the owner, but to us it was worth it. We love the photographs; my mother on the other hand wanted more long shots. Doug uses a lot of close-up and cropped posed shots.
On the day of the wedding I was a bit nervous to take photos, but as soon as Doug arrived at my house we clicked and the whole process was fun and exciting. He has a witty sense of humor which makes you feel more relaxed and at ease. Doug is also really quick with the photos, so we were able to enjoy our time in the with our bridal party.

TBD- We really liked Tim on the day of the wedding, at times we did not even know he was there. He was such a nice guy. We are a bit lazy and busy, so we have not gotten our video yet. We can’t wait to see the video footage.

DJ:
Mauro Amato (Can’t remember the company): A+
Friend of the family, he was great to work with. We had the lights, MC, plasma screen, percussionist. It was awesome! I danced the whole night. Also included in our package was a photographer, who took snap shots of us and our guests.

Harold @Bay Stationary: Bayside, NY
Harold was wonderful to work with. We finally found an invitation that we really liked. Great place to do business with.
Wedding Invitation Envelope Addressing: A+
This vendor was recommended to me by Harold @ Bay Stationary. She did an excellent job on the envelopes. I can’t find the card with her name on it, but if you would like the info, just FM me.

Our invitation:

Bridal Gown/Veil:
The Wedding Plaza: Floral Park, NY: A
Gown/Veil: Eve of Milady
Ok, this was the second wedding gown that I purchased. The first was a Demetrious gown from Macy’s Manhasset. My final dress, I found looking for a gown for my mom @ The Wedding Plaza in Floral Park. As my mom was trying on gowns I came across 3 wedding dresses that I liked, I was bored so I figured that I would amuse myself and try on a few others. Well, I tried this Eve of Milady gown and it fit perfectly and it was on the lines of what I really wanted. I remember coming out of the dressing room saying “OHH OH! Mom, I love this dress!!” I absolutely loved the dress as soon as I put it on. Long story short, I purchased it.
Veil: Eve of Milady:
It was very difficult finding a veil and tiara that went well with my shape and the style of the dress. I was very unhappy and confused. The sales woman Carmela suggested to me that her friends daughter recently got married and had an Eve of Milady wedding veil. She borrowed it from her friend and had me try it on with my gown. I fell in love; it is a 120 ft. Cathedral veil. It was perfect. I loved my veil, I just wish it cost a bit less, in reality the veil cost almost half of what the price of my gown cost, but as I said before it was worth it! The detail and embroidery of the veil was beautiful, you could really see the quality of the work and time it took to create.
For the tiara, I decided to do without it. Instead I purchased crystal hair pins from The Source Mall, and it went perfect with my gown.
Alterations:
The Wedding Plaza: A/A-
The dresses all came in on time and were perfect. There were some issues with the alterations, but nothing too major. I would recommend that if you do purchase a gown at this store, look into another place for alterations. You can FM me for details.

Bridesmaids Gowns:
The Wedding Plaza: Floral Park, NY: A
Bill Levkoff: style #963
I loved these gowns. I ordered them all in
Euro Cinnamon. The colors went with all of my Bridesmaids skin tones and hair color. The dresses were A-Line so they looked beautiful on all of them, and from what they told me they were very comfortable. The detail and beadwork on the gowns were beautiful. I received so many compliments on what nice color the girl’s dresses were. It went perfect with our autumn themed wedding.

Bridal Shoes/MOB Shoes: A+
The Bridal Shoe Boutique: Old Westbury, NY
Touchups
We always used to pass this place shopping. My mother and I both purchased our shoes from here. The men were very helpful. Neither my mom nor I “broke in” our shoes before the wedding, we where a bit worried, but the shoes were so comfy, we both danced the whole night!

Bridesmaids Shoes:
Love My Shoes: Bayside, NY: A
Colorful Creations
I had all of my bridesmaids order the same shoe (which were similar to my show style). Once they had the shoes we all brought them together to have them dyed to match the color of the gown (tricky color). The style and design of their shoes were almost identical to my wedding shoes, except their shoes had a bow instead of a pearl and rhinestone. They were also very comfortable. The girls told me that it was easier that I chose the shoes for them. Thanks to all of my BMs, they were troopers, there were no complaints or drama about anything, and thank God, hehe.

Mother of the Bride Dress:
Macy’s Manhasset: NY: A/A-
Beautiful dress and color! My mom looked beautiful. The dress came in after a few months and she looked stunning. She chose not to do her alterations at Macy’s; she went to The Wedding Plaza for her alterations.

Tuxes:
The Wedding Plaza: Floral Park, NY: A
Ron was so helpful and patient with my hubby and I. My husband knew exactly what he wanted; tails, top hat, cane and white gloves. He took his time to help find the right fit for him and the bridal party.
Top Hat:
Ron also suggested a great website that sold authentic Top Hats (since the hats at the store where felt and not as elegant). My hubby ordered his online and although it cost $$ it was soooo worth it! My Hubby loved the top hat, it made his day.
Cane:
My husband found a great website online that sold canes, so he came across one that he loved. It went perfect with his tux.

Bride’s Wedding Band:
Macy’s Manhasset: NY: A
I went shopping at Macy’s and came across my wedding band. At the time of purchase they had an AMAZING sale going on. We pretty much paid half price for the ring. It goes perfect with my engagement ring.
Groom’s Ring:
Kay Jewelers: NY: A
My husband is not much of a ring type of person, so when he was looking for a wedding band he discovered a Tungsten Carbide ring.

Bridal Party Gifts:
Fortunoff/Macy’s: A+
I got all of my girls the old vintage looking dress jewelry holder, earrings, bracelet and little handbag. The girls loved their gifts!

Groomsmen Gifts: A+[B/]
My husband LOVES to play chess and so do many of the groomsmen. He purchased beautiful wooden chess sets for each of the guys from an online store, who unfortunately was going out of business. The chess sets were shipped very fast and the products are excellent in quality.
Bridal People: (website): A+
Items purchased:
Unity candle/holder, maple leaf labels, engraved cake serving set.
In my quest for a unity candle I came across this site online, they seem to be reasonably
priced. I had no problems with this company. Everything was shipped in a timely fashion
and packaged very neatly. Unfortunately I did not use anything besides the cake server set.
Customglamgirl.com: A+
Items purchased:
Bridal Panties- Rhinestone Studded Personalized Hot Shorts
I could not wait to order these! I ordered both the baby blue and the white Rhinestone
studded boy shorts. They are so comfy and pretty true to size. They did a beautiful job
customizing the back of the panties. I believe the package arrived approx. 2 weeks after
I ordered them. Customglamgirl.com packed the order nicely and where pleasant to work
with.

Masquerade Masks: Guests/Bridal Party: A+
https://emardigrasbeads.com
At first I thought this site only sold masks and party favors for Mardi gras. Since our wedding theme had accents of a masquerade ball, I was pleasantly surprised that they had a nice assortment of masquerade and Venetian masks. I found this site while searching online. The prices were great, and we were able to order in bulk, which saved us A LOT of money. The items were shipped and packaged nicely. I would highly recommend this website.

Masks and Make Believe: A+++
http://www.masksandmakebelieve.com
I was in search of a masquerade mask for my wedding gown. One night online I came across the website for Masks and Make Believe. I saw a couple of masks that I liked, but nothing that I felt went with my gown. I called the company the following day and spoke to a woman (I can’t remember her name) but she was so friendly to deal with. I explained to her that I had seen a few masks that I liked, and if it was possible to combine the two. They custom designed my wedding mask based on the two masks I saw online.
Within a couple of weeks my custom designed mask arrived!!! It was BEAUTIFUL!!! I love it!!! I found out later on that this company designed masks for a music video. It was interesting to see these masks on a video for the band “Panic at the Disco”. This company was so pleasant to deal with and work with. I highly recommend.
SoCal Design: A+
http://www.socaldesignco.com/
I also found this website on my search for Venetian masks. My husband wanted something grand and unforgettable. He saw this mask on the SoCal Design website (Beautiful masks!!!). They were very informative and the mask came packaged nicely. Upon opening the box, my husband and I were in awe; the mask is made of the finest quality materials and was made in Venice, Italy. It really made an impact on our guests at the wedding! Everyone is still talking about it.

Items purchased: 100ML Maple Syrup Jars.
Very pleasant to work with, there were no shipping problems, etc. Everything came packaged nicely. The syrup tastes great, and our guests loved them! Highly recommend!

DIY Items:
Place cards/Table Names
Paper purchased from Staples
My husband created the place cards and table names. They were a pain to do, but was worth the effort.
Since we love Halloween, classic horror movies and it is our anniversary when we had started dating, we decided to name each table with a character from some old vintage photos of of our favorite classic horror movie actors. Our friends and family loved them!!
A sample table name from our wedding:

Bachelorette Party:
October 7th 2006 @HunkMania: no comment
Ok, so I did not want to do the whole stripper thing, but my MOH set it up. HunkMania were supposed to originally perform at the Copacabana in NYC. My MOH paid extra for VIP seating and everything. BUT a few nights before my bachelorette party, there was a conflict with scheduling, so they moved the show to Lucky Cheng’s “Cabaret Room” in NYC. We were ok with it, but when we got there it was VERY unorganized. We finally were sent up to the room where the performance was taking place. It was a very small cramped room, with a small stage. Being that the location changed, our VIP seats were about 6 rows back (which I did not mind). In my honest opinion it was a sleazy place, my friend paid to get me a “massage” (against my wishes). The guy started off nice, the massage was good, but then he came in front of me and started trying to grab my chest area and rubbing up on me, my mother who came out with us, stopped the guy from going any further. If that was not bad enough my MOH put my name in the hot seat, so they called me and another girl up on the stage. No offense to the other girl up on stage, but THANK GOD it was not me, that poor girl was tortured (flipped upside down with a banana stuffed down her throat, etc. I did not get too much attention up there, which was fine with me. If you are thinking about going there look at the website first to see if it is for you. By the way, the drinks were so disgusting that I had only 2, went outside after the 2 hour show, got into the limo and was sick from the time I sat in the limo, so I went back to my house, where I was still sick. My hubby was sweet though, he had drinks and hor'dourves waiting for us and our friends upon our arrival.

Rehearsal Dinner:
Vespa Cibobuono
96 Northern Blvd. Great Neck, NY: A
We love to eat at this restaurant, you feel as though you stepped into a restaurant in Italy. The mood, décor and food are excellent (very rustic and Tuscan). We had arranged a pre-set menu, everything was very good. The only thing that I was disappointed with was that for the price that you pay per person, they do not offer as much as other places. Also although the room (and whole restaurant) was decorated with there traditional rustic flare, included with some Halloween décor (which we loved!) the tables in the room where we had booked for our rehearsal dinner, were not set up for everyone to sit together. The tables we all different shapes and sizes and spread out, so it was not the intimate dinner in which I expected.

Honeymoon:
Hydrangea House Inn (Bed and Breakfast)
Rhode Island, NY: A+
http://www.hydrangeahouse.com
The bed and breakfast that we stayed at was not only beautiful but they had excellent breakfasts every morning. We stayed in the Dudley Newton Suite, which had a fireplace, two-person Jacuzzi, beautiful bathroom, decorated with antiques from the town. The crew was so friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time there. The town of New Port, although very quiet this time of year, was very charming and romantic.
Thanks for Looking! Happy Planning!!!

I forgot to mention, the pumpkins photo shown above, were grown by my husband and my father's garden
