Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

In the Catholic church?

Neither of the 2 godparents we chose are confirmed. Does anyone know what they might need to do? Thanks in advance.

Re: Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

I believe at least one must have received confirmation. The other would be considered a baptismal sponser.

ETA- Check with your church because each is different.

Re: Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

Don't quote me on this, but I would think that at least one would have to be confirmed.... the whole point of godparents are to raise the childen in the faith in the event that the parents are not able... so I would assume that they should be full members of the Church, which occurs at Confimation. However, I would talk to the priest about it...and see what they say. GOOD LUCK!

Re: Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

I don't think either of my godparents were confirmed.
I know that when it came time for my confirmation, I wasnted to choose my godmother as my sponsor, but I couldn't.

It's probably best to call the church and find out.

Re: Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

I'm pretty sure it depends on the church. I was not confirmed, but I am my niece's godmother.

Thats why I was so confused, because I am a godparent but I was not confirmed.

Re: Baptism Question... Do all Godparents have to be confirmed

When I was going to be Godmother for my Godchild I had to undergo an interview with the Pastor of my church and he asked if I was a practicing Catholic, how many times I went to church and if I had recieved the sacraments of Baptism and Confirnmation and he had to sign off on paperwork...I would think that Godparents would have to have had recieved these sacraments since they are supposedely expected to raise the child in the event something happens (according to the church)

Was that at St. Sylvesters? This may sound bad but it just kind of stinks because I none of our siblings are confirmed
