Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
Hi Guys, My wedding is this Sunday and I am getting nervous! :) :)So our sales/banquest manager said we have to tip the Maitre'd ($6/guest) and the bridal attendant. ($75) Do we also have to tip the banquet manager? He was involved in booking the hall for us, went over the menues, answered our questions, etc. Does anyone know if we have to tip him and if so, what is appropriate?

$6 pp for the Maitre-d sounds like a lot...I think the going rate is $3 - $5 pp.You arent really supposed to tip the banquet manager unless you feel he goes above and beyond...if so, you can give him $100 - $150.

Yes with 220 guests our Maitre'D tip is $1300...so you're saying that's a lot?

That sounds like a lot of money for a tip.

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
YOu do not have to tip the banquet manager. YOu tip what you can to the bridal attendant and Mait D.. We tipped 100 for the bridal attendant and like 350 to Mait D.. we didnt have alot of money left because of the expenses of a wedding.. They can not expect you to tip that much.. If you have its one thing.. but if you dont ,, you work with what you have..I dont get why they charge 20% service fee and then they give you lil envelopes telling you how much you should tip.
They should leave that up to you and your discretion.

$6 pp is outrageous, the maitre'd should absolutely be tipped but you do not have to give them that much. It's usually anywhere between $2-$5 a guest, but telling you outright $6 a person is absurd for him to suggest.

I agree...most halls 'suggest' a certain amount to tip, but $6 is definitely the highest I've heard. If you have 220 guests, I personally would give about $7750-$850 to the maitre'd, but remember that the amount you tip is at your discretion - if you feel that they went above and beyond on your wedding day, add a bit more (if you feel like it!).
As for the banquet manager, you definitely do not need to give him/her anything.

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
it was suggested for us to tip the banquet manager and everyone else that day.. all depends on the hall.. they tend to give you a range.. we went with the lower end because it started to add up...

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
I agree with the other brides that $6 pp is a lot...I have never heard of a tip that high for a maitre d before either. $3-4 pp is the average rate.I don't think it is expected that you tip the banquet manager because I believe that they make a commission (this is what I was told). Unless they really went above and beyond and threw a lot of stuff in for free, and you want to, don't worry about it.

I think I need to quit my job and become a maitre d
- that sounds crazy to me.

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
as for tipping the maitre d' we were told that that money ii also distributed to the kichen help. the gratuity you pay (the 18%) is given to the wait staff. why they differentiate I don't know; it is a pain. but don't quit your job the$$$ doesn't all go to the one guy.

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
your BM is a totally different person then your maitre d-unless your hall actually assigns you the same person. The rate is 3-5 pp, you dont have to tip the full 5, do what you can afford. And your bridal attendants are 50-100 depending on how you feel about what they have done for you.If your BM is someone different NO you do not have to tip them

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
Not to be a cheap jerk but we are spending so much money I am not tipping them very much! Maybe $250-$300 max for the maitre d for 150 people and $100 for the bridal attendant. IMO people in the wedding business make ridiculous amounts of money at the poor bride/groom's expense!I'd be more inclined to tip my florist and my photographer more than average because they provide a skilled service!
Sorry for the rant but I find 'suggested tips' extremely obnoxious and downright rude! If you go above and beyond then I will tip you appropriately! If you don't then you will be tipped accordingly!

Wow that sounds insanely high! My hall told us the standard is $2-3/guest and if we think he does an exceptional job then give a little more.

$6 seems really high. Most places we saw 'suggested' $3-5.

Re: Do you tip the sales/banquet manager at RH?
to be fair, dont you also have 2 captains to tip on top of your maitred? if it was recommended to be 6 pp, maybe they included the captains in on the charge.Welcome New Vendors
