I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

Ever since I got back from my vacation last Sunday I got this red spot above my lip and under my nose. At first it looked like a pimple but then it get more red and it felt irrating. I never got a fever or anything from it...I put cream on it and now it's got that scab looking going. I am going crazy cuz I don't know if it was a cut or a cold sore. I never felt any pain. I have stopped putting on cream because it no longer burns or irrates me. It just looks so ugly!

Help...has anyone ever had something like this and if so what helped for you and how long did it last?

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

Uch, I get cold sores every time I go on vacation. I get them from too much sun. Consider yourself lucky if it's just a small red dot -- mine get so big and gross. Go buy some Abreva and see if it works. Sorry!

And no matter what you do, Do Not Pick the Scab Off or it will never heal.

Also just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't kiss anyone.... uh anywhere until it goes away.

What is abbreva? a cream?

The actual thing is not on my lip though. It is on the outer part. In that area right above your top lip and below your nose. The mustache area...LOL

oooh thank God you told me that Cuz i've been trying to do that and I peeled a little piece of the scab off. I won't touch anything again. I've stopped putting on cream so I am basically leaving it alone. It's just scabbin looking, I don't know what else to do at this stage.

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

You can get them in your stache area. Maybe it's from blowing your nose alot if not? That's the only other thing I can think of.

Yup, Abreva is a cream that makes it disappear.

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

Is it too late to start using abreva at this stage? It's already been 5 days and it's already scabbing. Let me know so that way i'll know whether its worth it or not to get it.

It depends on how bad it is. Seems like yours is really small so it should clear up in a couple of days. You can also try Herpecin. Not too late to use if you have the scab. There are many products on the market, but unfortunately, all the good ones are expensive.

I sympathis. I get them when I get too much sun and don't use lip block. I actually have a RX on hand for the first signs of one. They generally don't hurt in the beginning...it's more of a tingly,,that is you can catch early with cream or RX pill would go away. Once it's started though it get's painful. If you were using any lipstick, throw it out so you don't get one again.

I should get this Rx before Italy.

Re: I think I have a Cold Sore...Can anyone help?

I get cold sore's since i've been 6 years old EVERY TIME the seasons change.. it stinks!!

I've used everything from Abriva, Zovirex, Valtrex.. etc..

The best stuff that works is Valtrex - it's a Rx you need to get from your Dr. - it's powerful!

The stuff that works best and it's over the counter is Aquaphor. It's a healing ointment like vaseline.. it works miracles!
.. i'm sure some of you are laughing if you have kids cause you use it for baby rashes.. but it also works amazing for cold sores!!!

DEFINITELY!!! it cuts the healing time down.. just keep reapplying it through out the day. You can buy a .35oz bottle of it, it's small like a sample size.

I got a SEVER cold sore in April when I went to Florida, I didnt use sunscreen! My lip blew up so big I looked like bubba gump. When it finally dried out the whole bottom lip was a giant scab - it was gross!
I used Aquaphor and it healed so quickly.. less then a week... I swear by it now!
