Please HELP! Need a Garden Wedding venue that is not Catering Hall-ish or on a golf course!
Hello,I could use some help, please! I am planning my June 2012 wedding and need a venue (Long Island/ NYC/ Westchester/ NJ/ lower CT are all okay) that has:
- beautiful gardens
- a historic feel (we are doing the wedding 1930s style)
-elegant, but not overdone or fake feeling
- We do not want it to have a catering hall-ish or golf course feel to it. I could live with the golf course, but not the catering hall.
Some places we have really liked, but have not worked out for various reasons include Old Westbury Gardens, Chelsea Mansion, he Nassau County Museum of Art, the Planting Field Arboretum, Wave Hill, and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.
We would also be VERY open to renting a private home and tent. I love the idea of a tented reception, actually.
We need the cost to be about $100- $125 (or $150 including tax and service charge and any fees) for the venue/ location fee, food, alcohol, chairs, tables, china, linens and tent.
I would be SOOO very grateful if anyone could point us in the right direction!
Thank you so much in advance!
I am posting some inspiration images.

Try Old Field Club!!! We loved getting married there! It's from 1939, has a ton of history to the building, one wedding a day. We had the ceremony and cocktail hour outside on the water. They also own a private beach that you can take pictures at. It has a very vintage classy elegance to it. It's definitely not your 'typical' catering hall. There are cathedral ceilings and wooden floors throughout the reception room. It's within your price range, it's $130 for Saturday and $110 for Sunday. The food is amazing!! They are only cooking for your party so it's incredibly fresh and they are very easy to work with in order to customize anything. It's in East Setauket and right near the Stony Brook train station. FM me if you have any other questions! Here's their link: Old Field Web Site

Glen Cove MansionPrices can always be negotiatied. Beginning of April is usually lower priced, as March. November also is usually a money saver. Otherwise, as someone else said... Friday or Sunday would help.

This place also looks very nice, I considered going here for my wedding but didn't make it that far out east before deciding on the one we booked.

I called them looking for my July 2012 wedding, and they said that they are no longer allowed to use the Vanderbilt Mansion in Oakdale or the Mansion at Woodside Acres in Muttontown. They also said they couldn't offer me anything besides the Bourne Mansion or the Timberpoint until 2013.
However, Bourne Mansion is BEAUTIFUL!! My brother and SIL got married there, and I loved it!
Good Luck!

Not sure what it looks like but we know someone who is getting married at the Bronx Zoo - they have some sort of space there that is supposed to be pretty nice.

Re: Please HELP! Need a Garden Wedding venue that is not Catering Hall-ish or on a golf course!
My sister in low got married at Old Field in June and it was GORGEOUS, it isn't very garden like though, more classic on the water feel. I just got married at The Westbury Manor and loved it, the gardens were amazing. It doesn't feel like a catering hall at all and was just gorgeous (obviously I have my opinion haha). BUT there are a ton of mansion properties on LI and plenty of Garden properties in the Hamptons. The WM had a very old time feel and was not gaudy or cheesy. If you do indoor cocktail hour one of the rooms is a library/lounge and you can still use the gardens. The Mildrege Inn Cottage is also gorgeous, it is almost a cross of Old Field & The Westbury Manor (no joke). My friend just got married there!Good luck!

You MUST see Estherwood in Dobbs Ferry. It is exactly what you're describing.
