What happens if you don't do pre cana?

Just out of curiosity...we are getting married in the Greek church, we finished what is our version of pre cana. We were also told from FH church that we had to do pre cana. I can't find anywhere that will do it for less than 300 dollars...but i am also not sure what the consequences will be if we don't do it. We do plan on christening our children in the catholic church that was the deal we made to each other so I wonder if that is why we also have to do pre cana?? Anyone know??

FH and I are doing pre cana for $50 at a church in Oceanside in June.

I am not Catholic so don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure if you do not do the pre cana your marriage will not be recognized by the Catholic church.

How come you have to do precana for catholics if you guys are getting married in the greek church? I dont know if they will accept it- but in Queens it was $175 for a weekend precana session- I'll see if I can find the info

we didn't do pre cana and didn't get married in the catholic church but will raise our kids catholic and will be able to have them baptised in the church.

yes, you can't be married in a catholic church if you do not do pre-cana, but bec you are getting married in a greek church you dont have to do pre-cana for the catholic church.

but if you want to baptise your children that is fine you can but one of you has to be catholic. it is okay that you weren't married in the catholic church.

We paid $40 at my catholic church.. I think Mici is right....the catholic church won't recognize the marriage.;

I wouldn't worry about christening your child though.....it's money to the church so they'll allow it.. they need parishioners...they will always accept a child being baptized..

my friend is jewish and her DH is Catholic..theyd idn't get married in church but they were able to christen her 4 kids.

yeah a little confused about this too. Are you having both priests at the ceremony and that is why?

The Catholic church will not recognize you as being married. I can't get over that churches are charging for pre-cana! Mine was free! Look around at nearby churches if your FH isn't set on one church.
