I feel really sorry for anyone whose in-laws create so much havic in their marriages. That is why God made Caller ID and Dead Bolts! I hope your in-laws know how close they have pushed you and your husband to divorce. They should be ashamed of themselves!

Ashamed? Are you kidding?!?b They are DISAPPOINTED they didn't acomplish their goal. Literally every time he makes an effort to see his parents, his mother breaks out the tears and reminds him how 'That girl' is ruining HER family. He's getting to the point where he doesn't even want to see them at all. Good, let them keep pulling their garbage, it just works to my benefit. I would never want someone to NOT have a relationship with their family, but in my situation it's totally necessary for me to completely remove myself from his families prescence (and eventually his too) in order for us to have some peace in our marriage. The resentment and hostility was getting out of control.

Shamee, I am so sorry that you and your husband both have to deal with that in your marriage! I've told my husband several times that we're both very lucky because neither of us has in-law issues!! I could never understand why any family would want to do something to push their child away -- why can't they just accept the fact that their child has found somebody to love them and respect them and be happy for them? Why must they cause all this heartache for everyone? How selfish can they be? Your children are not going to stay with you forever, and why would you want them to?? (My mother used to joke 'when are you leaving' because I was there until I got married at 36!! Now she misses me!!!)

I really don't get people sometimes. I wonder if they were videotaped and saw how they were acting, would they act differently?

Shamee, I wish you and your husband all the best and I hope that you don't let them win, EVER!! And they would if you went to the lawyer again. Your commitment to each other is the main thing and stronger then what they can do you!!

Re: 1/9/2003 QOTD What are the main reasons for divorce.

My ex-FI's parents sound just like your inlaws Shamee... I broke it off while we were planning because they were well deranged!!! Not meddlers, opinionated or nosy--- that is okay--- but flat out crazy people.... My mother noticed one day all of the crazy abusive things that were happening with me and them and she was like- I did not raise my daughter to consign herself to a lifetime of abuse and depression! These people make you miserable! She was like- you are afraid to even talk about them- intimidated to be yourself!!! Get the hell out now! She made me realize and I'm so happy I did! They were young parents and would have made my life hellish.
