Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
We can't post negative comments though so is it really a balanced view of the caterers?I'm all for this kind of review but I don't think LIW condones it.
Sorry - in my opinion when you restrict posts to only the positives - you are just advertising for these vendors. I'd much prefer to hear everything. Every vendor has a bad day (or a critical bride) but we don't get a chance to see that so we are just left to wonder what bad stories are out there that we aren't allowed to discuss.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Great ideaI was in a wedding at East Wind (The Estate) last Fall. Beautiful all around. Unbelievable amounts of YUMMY food. It was a great time. The place looked wonderful, service was great, the most fun I ever had at a wedding.
Another wedding last winter at the Harrison House. Place was beautiful, very convenient to be able to stay there, with the bar upstairs we always had a place to gather, play pool, etc. Beautiful place, a little crowded at cocktail hour (not everyone could sit) but a great time had by all.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
This is a great thread, althought I'm sorry to say I'm almost afraid to post on it. I once posted a negative review and LIW removed it.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
To Samsbride....I posted that good and bad reviews can be posted. Just the bad reviews, you can give feedback in ways that the caterer can probably better their service. So in a way it is not a 'negative' review.
Everyone has different opinions and considers things differently but I think you can post it in a way which it is beneficial from everyone. I see posts from other LIW brides that made comments for things they'd like that would have different or that they noticed and would have liked to happen at their weddings so I'm quite sure the brides from those places will stress those points with their caterers so that greater care is taken and it doesn't happen at their affair.
Keep Posting LIW Brides and Grooms !!

searsc, I am 25 but the first of any of my friends to get married, and I have a tiny, tiny family too! It's weird doing the planning without ever having BEEN to one, but I worked in event planning before.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Flowerfield (Fri. Nov. 01): great c-tail hr! don’t remember dinner. Nice service and place was pretty. No complaintsCottage @ Millerage (Fri. April 03): A bit small for ceremony not enough food at c-tail hr and not enough seats. Most of us were standing with our drinks tring to eat but I do think that because the cermony was there the c-tail hour was cramped. Cool the way the room opened up. Wasnt really impressed with food.
Fox Hollow (Sat afternoon Oct 02): I wasn’t a fan of sharing the B-room w/ the other wedding. Actually a few guests from the wedding crashed the other wedding . I did not like that at all. Also I knew who the other wedding was and they said they could hear the bagpipes the entire time they played even over their music. Food was great, service was great and I've heard nothing but great things. The bride was VERY pleased!
The Sandcastle (Fri. June 03): I personally don’t like where it is and I don’t like the decor however the food at the c-tail was amazing! Sooo much of it! Service was great also. Dinner was great and it stands as one of the best weddings.
Watermill (Sat. Sep. 01) : I didn’t like how the room was downstairs with no windows. I liked the c-tail hr room better. But it was nice how the smoking room and bar was off to the side in a glass room.
Lands End (Spring/Summer 2002): Great CH hour, Great food. One of best weddings

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Villa Lombardi's-Sunday night, July 11th, 1999This was my best friend's wedding and everything was amazing. The cocktail hour was so plentiful that people were taking home their entrees because they ate too much at the cocktail hour. There was an amazing Viennese Hour and everything was perfect. We had all of the food in the bridal suite and they were the best.
Villa Lombardi's-Friday night, Summer 2000
A good friend needed a date to his friend's sister's wedding, so I went with him, since I love Villa's food. I wasn't disappointed. It was great.
Villa Lombardi's- Saturday night, Summer 2000
The same friend needed a date for another friend's wedding. Once again, I couldn't pass it up. It was wonderful
Villa Lombardi's- Sunday night, September 9, 2001
This was the wedding of a close family friend and it was perfect. Beautiful weather, great food. Just great!!
Villa Lombardi's- Sunday night , April 6, 2003
For some reason, I was not as impressed with the food on this night at VL. The pasta course smelled so foul that no one at my table ate it. My brother was the one who realized that the smell was the mix of basil and onion in the sauce. A few of us with weak stomachs almost got sick because it smelled like vomit. The service was nice, though, so we were okay with the rest of the evening
Fox Hollow- Saturday afternoon, July 7, 2001
This was in the Winter Garden Pavillion and it was very pretty, but it got very warm in the room because the celing is all glass and the sun was beating down in. Overall, it was nice, but I don't remember anything extradordinary about the food. I think it was the choices that the couple made. There cocktail hour selections didn't seem too appetizing. The service was great, though, and their cake was delicious. It was chocolate cake with chocolate filling and it tasted like the cake was warm but the icing never melted (and it was buttercream) It was wonderful!!
Watermill, Saturday night, November 2, 2002
This was my brother's wedding of which I was in the bridal party and I must say it was wonderful. The cocktail hour was great, the dinner was great. The maitre'd was great. When the bridal party was being introduced and he was motioning for the flower girls to come in, one of the flower girls ran towards him and jumped in his arms and he just went with it and picked her up. The Viennese Hour was super too, but I personally didn't like the sparkler show.
Land's End-Saturday night, October 18, 2003
This wedding had 279 people and was crazy. It was so packed, there was no room to dance. The cocktail hour was great, but very crowded and it took forever to get food and find a place to sit. The entrees were nice, but a little too exotic for some things. I think there is a reason why wedding food can be generic and that is because simple is better when dealing with a large crowd. These meals were not simple. Oh yeah, and the sorbet was frozen too hard, you couldn't enjoy it.
The Strong-Todd House, Rochester, NY - Saturday, July 5, 2003
What a beautiful old mansion. There were three large rooms downstairs (and an advertising company had the rooms upstairs as their offices), and was beautiful. There wa a fireplace in one room where all of the tables were, a cocktail table in another and the buffet in the other. There was an atrium that led to a big back yard where the kids and the men played horseshoes and croquet. I wish I knew who the caterer was, the food was great. The cake was amazing. I think it was a praline cream or something
Next will be a review of my own wedding. Coming sooner than I think.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Hi Everyone !!!
It's Great that everyone is posting. I see that some of you are giving the exact date of the affair. You don't really have to do that. Just post like 'March 2004, Saturday Evening'.
I think that will be best.

GIORGIOS, CHELSEA PIERS, EMJC, W HOTEL
Kinda had a similar experience at Giorgio's last November (saturday night) as someone previously posted - I got the beef entree (I beleive it was Filet Mignon) and it was way too rare and cold. FH had the salmon and though it was a bit dull. But the cocktail hour and a half was unbelievable!!! The cake was fabulous too and I do not like bakery cakes.------------------------------------
The last wedding I was at before that was 2/2/02 (Sat PM) at the Chelsea Piers (I can't remember what the place is actually called - The Lighthouse maybe?) but it was FABULOUS. Gorgeous view, cocktail hour was passed only but all really delicious and interesting stuff. Dinner was buffet and AMAZING - one side of the buffet was Peter Luger-esque - well, it was sliced filet, creamed spinach, etc and the other side was an international buffet (I can't really recall specifically what was offered).
----------------------------------------
East Meadow Jewish Center - Nov 2000
Cocktail hour, dinner - all food was GREAT!! But I remembered being served drinks in what can only be described as small juice glasses. I can't really recall what the room was like but I think it was really nice.
---------------------------------------
W Hotel (midtown) June 2000
Cocktail hour was really good and again interesting stuff. And unfortunately, I can't really remember the rest ...

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Warning: I am VERY picky!
Swan Club
Sat. afternoon August, 2003
I was not impressed with them at all. The rooms were nice. The garden is beautiful. The cocktail hour was outside. It was ok. I think that had more to do with the food that the B & G picked. The dinner itself was partially chilly when it shouldn't have been. We were in a smaller split level garden room and I noticed gnats flying inside. That totally turned me off. Then, when the dj finished playing the last song, the crew was inside vacuuming and taking tables away before anybody could get out. They scheduled the parties so close together that there were people outside waiting to get in the room as we were leaving and the crew were cleaning up (and I mean like 30-35 people).
Russo's on the Bay
Sun. evening, October 2003.
This place is amazing! The cocktail hour was great. I missed part of it because it was so big I didn't even realize there was a whole other side. The dinner was fantastic and cake was the best. Didn't get anything from Vianese because I couldn't eat anymore. The place is a little too fancy for my taste but absolutely beautiful. They think of everything!
Jericho Terrace, Sat. evening November 2003
The jury is still out on this one. I didn't really enjoy the cocktail hour food which was dissapointing. The dinner was excellent. The entrance and rooms are very nice. I love the little garden outside. The place is very pretty. I didn't like that we were on the top floor for the cocktail hour and 2 floors down for reception. The place was a little confusing for a lot of guests because of all the stairs all over the place and the way we were lead from one room to another. A lot of people complained. My father wasn't happy because they didn't cook his meat the way he asked for it and I heard that from several other people. I enjoyed the chicken I had. I didn't like any of the desserts at the vianese hour. They did have nice presentation and the service was great. The bartenders at the rolling bar were impeccable (we also gave them a big tip early on).

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Swan Club ( July 2001)It was great.. service, food, even the weather, was perfect for my cousins wedding. The prices are mid range (about 75-85 including tax & service charge per person)
Jerricho Terrace (Nov 2002)
I was nice, service, food, was great, only issue I had was the place is really not my style, I didn't like the decor.
Verdi (Verdi Sept 1998)
Not a wedding, retirement dinner
Service and the room we had were wonderful, but I really didn't care for the food.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
hmm, lets try to remember them all!Chateau Briand -engagement party- Sat 2/04
Place was very pretty...very modern looking. Service was great, room was beautiful ( I dont remember the name) and the food was prety good too.

Floral Terrace - wedding - Sat 1/04
Room was beautfil, very fancy. Too fancy for me but beautifully done. The food was AMAZING...the best fish I have ever had at a wedding! Viennese hour was well done, not on the dancefloor, right outside the room and all was delicious! Staff was great!

Sirico's (Brooklyn)-engagement party- Fri 10/03
Food was awesome, service was great, room was beautiful. Couple were treated like royalty!

El Caribe (Brooklyn) - wedding - Sat 8/03
The place was beautiful and the staff was amazing. I had high expectations going into the wedding b/c I had heard SO many great things but unfortunatly the food didn't impress me. I think it was probably the choice of food they had at the CH, I heard their seafood selection for CH is amazing but they didn't have that. I had the salmon for dinner and couldn't even eat it. Fh loved his so maybe it was just me.
______________________________________
Harrison House -wedding- Sat 5/03
I don't rememebr the food. The service was wonderful. I didn'y like the way the rooms were set up. The reception room was like sut in half by a wall...certain tables couldn't even see the dancefloor, it was like they were in a whole other room. The mansion was beautiful though.
______________________________________
Oheka Castle - wedding - Sat 4/02
The grounds and castle were BEAUTIFUL! Just magnificant. Food was great...they had different stations and tables set up in the different rooms of the castle. The Viennese hour was the biggest I have ever seen. The main room was a little tight but everything else was unbbelievable!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Oheka Castle.. was stunning, i was very impressed with the cocktail hour and the room. The reception dinner...didn't care for. The vienese (sp?) hour, excellent. The staff were excellent.Fox Hollow...always excellent, which was why i picked it. SO i guess i am biased
Port Jeff CC...It was very nice.
Giorgio's...very nice
Majestic Gardens... didn't like the rooms or the food.
Coral House...beautiful rooms. The cocktail hour food was the worst i ever had. Dinner so so.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
i just went to a wedding at the Fox hollow. i thought everything was really nice. Cocktail hour was outside and it is really beautiful out there. The food was good (of course) and they even came around with extra meat to see if anyone wanted seconds. They do a really good job there.Welcome New Vendors
