Welcome Dulhan! =) You're getting married the day after me =)

I'm in the process of looking for a DJ too. What do you consider an arm and a leg? Are you looking for an 'american' DJ? Or an Indian?

Check out the 08 Brides Forum too....I recently posted the question on DJs there.

So how's the rest of the planning going....what vendors have you chosen so far?

Well... the thing is I need the DJ for two events so Im hoping he will sell me a deal.. plus i also wanted to do some extra lighting for the shaadi, not the mehndi. so im looking for someone who can put together a nice package for me prob around 1800. I really cant spend more than that. weddings are a big expense as it is, and there has got to be a budget for everything. Im sure you know that by now since ur planning too! Wow, so memorial day weekend for you too! hehe Congrats!

I went to Bukhara Grill yesterday.. I loved the samples. I just went to chit chat and give them a copy of the menu we came up with.. they treated us with so much hospitality, gave us free samples, took time out to really find out what we needed.. all in all it was a great experience. I just hope their prices come back to be within our budget

Welcome Dulhan.. another May bride

The DJ for the reception can cost you around 2K plus or minus a couple of hundred depending on who you go with. You could do a so so DJ for the sangeet and mendhi (we all know one right ) and go with the really good one for the reception.

I am going with a lady from Queens for mendhi, loved her style, and her prices were great as well.. but she did add on a travel charge because it is a little out of her way..

Thanks for the welcome! wow lots of May brides! its a beautiful time of the year...who are you going with for the mendhi? I would rather not have two separate djs, and instead get one so he could give me a better price package since i will book him for two days..
Is bukhara grill in the city? Isnt it more like a restaurant? Do they have a party room?

Look into DJ Insomnia.. heard he's really good and resonable.. also DJ Amrit from Bollywood DJ's .they're great at multi-day events, because they have various packages. May is a very popular time, especially the holiday weekend.. so you might want to inquire soon since you need them for multiple days.

Bukhara is a restaurant but they do catering as well!! The mendhi lady is from Queens, if you want more details, FM me, I'll be happy to share!

We're going to St. Lucia. Staying at Jade Mountain...it seems so cool.....we'll be staying 4 nights around the base of the mountain, closer the beach..all inclusive....and then 2 nights up high on the mountain, where there is 1 missing wall....fully open to the mountain view AND an infinity pool in the room!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Welcome Dulhan!! Good Luck on all the planning.

I went with DJ Sharad. I have gone to some of his parties and he's really good. His DJ's can also speak punjabi/hindi if you need that. His MC's are also awesome, they really get the party going. His prices are a little higher than usual, but he is definately willing to work within your budget.
Here's his site: www.djusouthasia.com.

Also, for hair and makeup, check thru this thread and a lot of girls have put up great reviews on some vendors. I'm using a small salon that did my engagement party and they are giving me a great rate for me and my girls. But i'm not having her come to the house in the morning, i'm going to her in the afternoon for the reception.
