Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I'm seeing a lot of people saying Ginni from Habibs does a good job..I may go with her. I personally dont like Nina Doshi's makeup, from what I've seen on the website. Plus, there is NOOO way im paying over a thousand for hair and makeup! I've got enough expenses as it is! lol
Also for photo/video I'm going with BnB Photography. Its the photo journalistic style, which is what FH and I wanted

She has two salons, one in Hicksville and the other one on Hillside Ave, but she'll travel to your venue though.

Nimisha at Mehak on Hillside is fantastic. I go to her for my eyebrows.

Very good. Highly recommend her

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I know what you mean. I never ask her to work on me. I stick to Nasreen or Nimisha. But they do good threading.

Be careful about mehendi. i went to a wedding and it faded in a week. The wedding i went to had mehak come and do the mehendi.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I am not sure about the Hicksville place, but on Hillside Ave, it's near the Bellerose Library. I'm not from the Queens/LI area, but I think Diwan is near the Hicksville place. Call her up, she'll give you exact directions.

I usually get my eyebrows done in Edison, but before my makeup trial, I got my eyebrows done by Sona who works at Ginni's Hicksville salon.. and it never looked better!! I was stumped myself.. it's been about 3 weeks, I have to go again, but highly recommend her.

Leena- wow. At least you got great pictures. You never know with some photographers. I went with them since they are so experienced. By the way, Congratulations. You look beautiful in your pictures.
Were you overall happy with CHCC? Any tips to deal with them would be so helpful.

MrsV2be- I am gettiing my outfit next month from India so when I go, I'll be able to figure out what kind of look I'm going for. I need someone who knows indian make up for the ceremony and can make me look amazing at the reception. I usually go natural everywhere.

Nancy- I am actually trying to set up a time with Tandoor to talk about catering. They are my number one choice. I went to a wedding recently where they did a fantastic job. Also we are not doing the buffet and these guys are very experienced with other serving styles.

I agree with you about the hair at the ceremony. To be honest, I would want a simple bun since its covered by the chunni. I really want my hair down for the reception so I don't want all the products in my hair for the ceremony. They are back to back.

Girls= any tips on the hair stuff.

Deepa- If you find someone who is nice, please let me know. I'll keep you posted on the hair/makeup stuff.

Have a wonderful day girsl

overall i was happy with them. the service, and food was great. the only thing was the drinks. i told my bm that it was a must to have black there. the guests kept asking for it and they bartenders said they did not have any. even when my dh asked! finally they pulled it out. malu uncles dont play that! when they want black they want black!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I was thinking about registering at the following places:

Fortunoff- Everyone I know does it there. I think this is a definite.

Bed Bath and Beyond- Considering

Crate & Barrel- Considering

Williams Sonoma- Considering

I agree williams and sonoma is fantastic for kitchenware. You might want something else for bedding, bathroom and general house items if you select williams sonoma. I know people have previously registered witht the following combos
fortunoff/bed bath beyond
fortunoff/crate and barrel

You should take your FH and see the items you like and where you find a better selection that suits your taste, go with the one that best suits you.

My registry will definitely be at fortunoff for sure. I am trying to decide between the other three as to which one to use. I'll let you know once I decide.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Good morning everyone!

Are any of you doing an after party...after the reception? If so, where? FH and I were talking about just a hotel bar, but there aren' t too many that have bars that stay open late near Holbrook. We don't want to go into the city. Any suggestions?

I think those are all great places to get your gift registry set up. Im thinking of Bed bath and beyond and Crate and barrel..I'm not definite on those two.. What about Macy's? They have gift registry also. Any opinions on those ??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I registered at Macy's. I just love the stuff they have and they have everything from dishes, to bathroom to bedroom stuff, it's great. They also have a great rewards program that you get 10% back on your macy's card from items purchased on the registry. You should check them out.
