Sorry - Definitely TMI Nursing Question...
Has anyone ever used 'shells' to...ahem...'prepare' your breasts for nursing? Do they work? Can anyone recommend a specific brand? Thanks!

Re: Sorry - Definitely TMI Nursing Question...
In every nursing book and research I have done before I started nursing they pretty much say these are a bad idea. I would go take a BF class for more info. In all fairness I must say I have never used them.

Thanks Stacey! I'm taking a bfing class while in the hospital, but I'm reading up a lot before then. They mentioned them in a couple of books as helpful....

Re: Sorry - Definitely TMI Nursing Question...
In the BFing class I took and in the books I read, they were always recommended as helpful. However, I did not have a need for them. I've also read that they can help AFTER the baby is born, to 'catch' any leaks...again, I don't know from personal experience, but just something I read.

a friend of mine is a la Leche league leader. She said that if you have inverted nipples then you should wear the shields not to bring out the nipple. I dont know about wearing them before if they arent inverted

Not inverted, but I heard that the more 'out there' they are, the better (and less pain while bf!!!)....Thanks for your help!

Its been my experience that the nipples will get out there by the sucking of the baby. Its all about how the baby latches on properly that will give you no pain and success. I never used the pads but I have the BFing experience.
